| Amon Amarth finish new video clip |

“We recently returned from Poland after shooting the first video for the upcoming album ‘Twilight of the Thunder God’. The video will be for the title track.
We joined efforts with the Polish team, Group 13 and director Dariusz Szermanowicz for ‘Twilight of the Thunder God’ and filmed it on the old Viking site, Jomsborg, home of the Jomsvikings in Wolin, Poland. Our brothers from Jomsvikings traveled from far and wide, places like Poland, Germany, Belgium, England, Australia and USA to be part of this great video. It seemed that the Thunder God was on our side when shooting the video, because a hurricane/storm passed through the area during the day, creating the chaotic and violent atmosphere we were hoping for. It was the toughest conditions we ever recorded a video in, blood and sweat, quite literally both, were part of the making. But we don't mind getting our hands dirty and metal was never supposed to be ‘nice’. In fact we couldn't have wished for a more fitting video shoot for this song, being the Ragnarök and all! We want to thank Igor for making this possible, Blodhvitnir Meldric and Sana, the Group 13 crew for their professional work and of course the Jomsvikings for being made of steel”
| Dark Funeral to enter studio |
2008-08-12
|
|
Ave everyone!
So, finally it’s time.... On Monday Aug 18, Chaq Mol and I will enter the studio together with producer Örjan Örnkloo (Misery Loves CO) to begin the songwriting process of a new, yet untitled full-length album. Exactly how long it will take is hard to say, but the plan is to be done with a pre-production within the next 3-4 weeks. We already have quite some material written so I feel that we are as pre-prepared as we can be at this stage. We will only work in the studio during the weekdays. So every weekend when we’re home we’ll post a studio report to keep you updated. Anyway, time to get busy. Talk to you in about a week again. /Lord Ahriman & Dark Funeral
| Lazarus A.D. to open for Testament |

Lazarus A.D. had the honor of opening up for metal legends, Testament, on Friday August 1st in Milwaukee, WI. Needless to say, their modern brand of thrash whipped the legions of Testament into a circle pitting fury. Watch out for Lazarus A.D.’s Metal Blade debut, The Onslaught, in early 2009 with plenty of touring to follow!

Here’s an update from the band:
“Hello all: It's that time once again! CATTLE DECAPITATION are now entering the studio to record the next album! We enter Castle Ultimate Studios in Oakland, CA this week to start working on our fourth Metal Blade full length! We'll be doing the drums with the mighty Zach Ohren (All Shall Perish, Decrepit Birth) and then over to Sharkbite studios to record the rest and mix with our man Billy Anderson. This is going to be devastating, we promise. The new material is over the top. The lyrics are as hateful as ‘Karma.Bloody.Karma’, but much more disgusting this time around. We'll be announcing the name of the album, song titles and cover art when we have completed the recording! Details on that, studio reports and fly on the wall footage in the studio coming soon!”
| The Living Fields sign with Candlelight |
2008-08-09
|
|
Candlelight Records today confirms the signing of multi-national progressive doom-death outfit The Living Fields. The trio, with members based in Chicago, London and Ottawa, has received early acclaim via their self-released 2004 and 2007 recordings. Now working on their Candlelight debut, currently titled Running Out of Daylight and planned for release in early 2009, the band looks to take the next step in their still developing career.
“Candlelight has been very successful working with bands that defy convention,” says guitarist Jason Muxlow regarding the band’s choice of label. “Their discography is filled with milestones. Their legacy undoubtedly speaks for itself and we're thrilled to be part of their future.” Originally formed in 2002 by Muxlow, The Living Fields have had their sound likened to that of My Dying Bride, November’s Doom and others. But with a twist. Together with vocalist Jon Higgs (also of Monsterworks) and drummer Chad Walls (Brodequin, Enter Self), Muxlow and The Living Fields explore a wide range of sounds and styles utilizing a palette of guitar, drums, bass, strings, piano, and spine-chilling vocals that will amaze fans and critics worldwide. "True epic metal of a most norm-shattering aspect," says Terrorizer of the band’s self-titled debut. “Mandatory,” adds Metal Maniacs. The Living Fields are the latest to join London-based Candlelight’s growing US roster, a strong concentration of artist development for the rising label. Home to all catalog from Emperor, Ihsahn, Zyklon, 1349, Insomnium plus early recordings from Opeth and Burzum, Candlelight’s American roster now includes Obituary, Crowbar, Daylight Dies, Abigail Williams (new album this fall), Absu, Averse Sefira, Sothis and Sourvein. The label is distributed exclusively in the United States via Caroline/EMI, PHD Canada for the northern country and Plastichead Music for Europe.

| SSS announce album title |
2008-08-09
|
|
British crossover thrashers SSS have revealed the title of their upcoming new album as THE DIVIDING LINE.
Due out on September 29th in Europe and November 11th in the US, the limited edition first pressing of THE DIVIDING LINE comes with a free SK8+DESTROY 7" picture disc featuring bonus tracks not included on the album. This exclusive freebie will also feature a very special and rather amusing guest appearance from English comedian and musician FRANK SIDEBOTTOM. SSS comment on working with SIDEBOTTOM: "SSS is stoked to have Frank Sidebottom guesting on our "Sk8+Destroy" picture disc. His cult status is legendary. For him to get the motor train up to Liverpool with a permission slip from his mum and lay down some killer keyboard riffage is beyond a dream come true. We have been long-standing fans of the Franks for many, many years. Frank has his own style and that's something we admire. Frank is a true genius. Iron Maiden have Eddie... Anthrax have Judge Dredd... We don't have Frank but it's as close as we're going to get! Our new CD/LP called "The Dividing Line" is out end of Sept with 20 tracks to break things to. Pick it up and receive a free "Sk8+Destroy" 7" complete with Frank Sidebottom's bossanova riff action... "You know you should... You really should. Thank you."

| Underneath The Gun sign with Ferret Music |
2008-08-08
|
|
Ferret Music has just announced that they have signed Corona, California’s UNDERNEATH THE GUN!
Guitarist Trevor spoke on signing with Ferret Music, “Ferret was the best choice for us because we felt that the label had enough resources to fulfill all of our needs as a band, while still being an indie label which would give us the opportunity to have a personal relationship with everyone we work with. We felt this balance was really important to the future and growth of our band.” Alongside Trevor in UNDERNEATH THE GUN is Harrison (vocals), Isaac (drums), Kyle (bass), and Danny (guitar). The band which started when members were twelve years old have previously released two independent albums and built a strong west coast fan-base. Speaking on their music Trevor said, “Our goal for the music we write is to bring a pretty aggressive metal approach, but giving our own feel to it without limiting ourselves to one particular genre of metal. We also strive to write lyrics with a meaningful message about what we believe in a way that we feel everyone can relate to.” UNDERNEATH THE GUN is currently on the road in the USA with My Children My Bride and while on the road with them they will hit the Taking Back the Streets Festival, a Christian music festival based in Pilot Mountain, North Carolina. After they wrap up their month long stint with My Children My Bride, they will hit the road with Don the Reader from August 26th

| Mithras announce new line-up |
2008-08-08
|
|
Following the recent search to fill the long vacant live drummer spot, Mithras have now chosen their man. Previous live drummer / guitarist Ben White (Of Orbeth) departed the band back in 2003 and through a chance meeting which led to an explosive audition, has returned to the fold and his old drum seat. To their relief, this puts the UK's revered extreme metal protagonists back on the circuit for live performances, something they have missed hugely and are keen to return to without delay.
Rayner Coss (oratory/bass) says of Ben's return: "It's great to have Ben, one of our former members back in the band; he knows the material fantastically and is perfect for the role. We auditioned him and he nailed 11 songs taken from all our albums right off the bat, so we're really excited and looking forward to getting on stage for some shows asap!" Of Ben's rejoining the band, Leon Macey (guitars) reveals that he "got in touch with Ben almost out of the blue during the drum auditions period to gather some material for our upcoming release, but one thing led to another and now we're slaying the tracks in the rehearsal room!" And the man in question, Ben White (drums), adds: "Fate it seems has dealt a good card for us all! It was really cool when Mithras got back in touch again and as we have all evolved as musicians it seems to work better than ever now. It's good to be back!" Mithras would like to thank all the drummers who applied for the position and sent in audio and videos. Best of luck with your future projects.
| Xystus to release new album |
2008-08-08
|
|
Sensory is extremely proud to announce the upcoming release of Dutch progressive metal band Xystus’ third album, Equilibrio; This rock opera was recorded with a 60 piece orchestra and a 30 member choir, and includes guest performances from Simone Simmons of Epica and George Oosthoek of Orphanage. With an influx of gothic, progressive and traditional heavy metal influences melding with this dramatic orchestration, fans of Epica, Ayreon and Kamelot should keep both eyes peeled for this release to strike. With a release date of September 30, promotion on the album will begin very soon; all North American requests for Xystus and all other Sensory releases should come directly to Earsplit.
Xystus is a Dutch progressive metal band formed in 1999 by drummer Ivo Van Dijk and guitarist/vocalist Bas Dolmans. They enlisted bassist Mark Brekelmans and second guitarist Bob Witsma. Through the course of releasing two albums – 2004’s Receiving Tomorrow and 2006’s Surreal the band built up a buzz and fanbase in The Netherlands. The band supported Kamelot and made numerous festival appearances. In December 2005, Xystus went on a European tour in support of Epica. The band had even greater ambitions and in 2006 they contacted the Utrechtsch Studenten Concert - the oldest symphony orchestra in The Netherlands. The resulting two-year collaboration resulted in the rock opera Equilibrio. Conceived as both an actual stage production and studio recording, Equilibrio was performed to four sold out audiences in July, 2008 - over 4,000 people witnessed the opera. Sensory is proud to release the studio recording of Equilibrio, which features key scenes from the opera. In addition to the 60 piece US Concert orchestra and 30 member choir, Xystus enlisted vocal performances from Simone Simons (Epica), George Osthoek (Orphanage, Delain) and Dutch theater veterans Michelle Splietelhof and John Vooijs. The story of Equilibrio revolves around a wanderer named Diegu (Bas Dolmans) who finds himself caught between the forces of good and evil the power mad ruler Primos (John Vooijs) and the altruistic rebel Avelin (Michelle Splietelhof). Primos makes a pact with Death (George Osthoek) take over the world. After unsuccessful efforts by Diegu to mediate between Avelin and Primos, the latter ends up with complete power and the world is thrown out of balance. Diegu is summoned by the godess Lady Sophia (Simone Simons). She watches over Earth and entrusts Diegu with the job reuniting Primos and Avelin in order to restore the balance between good and evil again.
| Orphan Project sign with Open Grave Records |
2008-08-06
|
|
Open Grave Records is proud to announce the addition of Abingdon, Maryland's Orphan Project to it's roster. Orphan Project was started in 2001, when vocalist Shane Lankford, collaborating with composer John Wenger, conceived the groundwork for a concept album based on spiritual and physical adoption, incorporating progressive, hard rock, and contemporary influences. With a full length album and an EP under their belt, and in addition, Lankford being a veteran of progressive local bands in his hometown such as Visual Cliff, and Fall of Echoes, the band felt they were ready to strengthen their influence, as well as build more of a following in the mainstream market. Lankford states, "We felt this was an excellent opportunity to get our material exposed to a bigger audience. And being with an indie label such as Open Grave allows us to do exactly that, while still retaining that personal relationship that bigger labels can't give you." This addition also takes place on the heels of a change in the style of artists signed by the label. Open Grave Records CEO James Mattern was quoted as saying "We feel that Orphan Project, as a band, has a little something for everyone. Rock fans, progressive fans, even adult contemporary fans will be able to appreciate this music. It's a great addition in support of our recent diversification efforts. I'm very excited about this release." Orphan project is planning to release new material in March of 2009.
