Sweden’s OPETH, easily one of the most revered and respected bands in the metal scene and beyond for the past two decades, will commemorate their twentieth anniversary in Spring 2010 with six exclusive shows that will take place across the globe in; Stockholm Sweden, Essen Germany, Paris France, London UK, New York City and Los Angeles USA.

Front-man Mikael Åkerfeldt had the following to say on behalf of the band;

”I can’t believe it, but...fuck...we’re celebrating 20 years!! 20 years I’ve been in this band, ever since I was 16! It’s insane! As far as I remember, we’ve never had a release party, never celebrated anything officially. Well, now is the time, you hear?
We’ve set up a string of shows, 6 of them actually, around the world. To say that they will be super-exclusive is beyond an understatement!
We’ve discussed the set list already and it seems like we’ll pull out a few songs we’ve never played before, some of which fans all over the world have been demanding to hear for years and years. Our main agenda for these shows is to have “fun” whilst trying to blow your fucking minds, you could say business as usual, but really…it’ll be special, trust me!
I can’t stress enough how exclusive this will be! We will not add any more shows on top of the 6 that we’ve confirmed already, so please make up your mind early on whether you wanna go or not (of course you fucking do!) as I would assume there’s quite a few of our fans that might be interested in seeing a thing like this.
We’ll spend the better part of January-March rehearsing for this. All to make YOU fucking happy! OK, we’ll be tight, very tight indeed…come see us!
It’s a celebration!!!!
At each show, the band will perform two sets. The first set will feature the band playing its breakthrough epic Blackwater Park in its entirety. The second set will consist of mixed material from the band’s extensive catalog. The band will be playing for over two hours at carefully selected venues in order to achieve an element of intimacy and exclusivity, and an overall “You had to be there” vibe!

The venues include the famed and prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London, as well as the luxurious Lichtburg in Essen, the oldest fully seated cinema in Germany.

The band will offer exclusive VIP ticket packages to all shows which include a laminated VIP pass exclusive to each show, access to sound check, a meet ‘n greet with Opeth, a t-shirt exclusive to that particular show, a signed tour programme and a special edition CD/DVD of Blackwater Park, with a 5.1 mix and a 30-minute, never-before-seen documentary all nicely packaged in a hard cover digipack designed by artist Travis Smith. The special edition will be released in March 2010 through Sony Music. All the Opeth loot will be included in an Opeth rucksack. The VIP laminate will also allow early access to venues without seat allocation so that VIP’s can get the best seats in the house.

Steel Attack re-unite with original members

Swedish heavy metallers Steel Attack have issued the following update:

"We are glad to inform you that Steel Attack is back together again and we will do at least one show with the original members Steve Steel (Stefan Westerberg " Carnal Forge") John Allan, Dennis Westman & Andereas de Vera from the two first Steel Attack albums. We will only play songs from "where mankind fails" and "Fall into madness". We did our first rehearshal yesterday in 10 years and it sounded like we never been apart! All updates will be posted later on with date and venue. Also a video from our rehearhal will be online soon!"

Kataklysm working on new album

is in full writting mode at the moment for the follow up to the "Prevail" album. The band has also confirmed the mixing duties for the next offering.

Comments guitarist J-f Dagenais: "I'm really excited to be deep into the writting process for the new KATAKLYSM album, the band is more focused than ever: This album will be different than "Prevail", but will still have the classic KATAKLYSM trademarks and hooks. You will see a much more intricate record than we've done in the past. It will contian some really fast and dynamic parts, but we will also aim on a very melodic driven record and it will contain lots of technical parts as well that we haven't explored much lately. And no worries, the bone crushing grooves are always a must with KATAKLYSM and will be present. I've also seen Maurizio's lyrics for this album so far and let me tell you that they hit really hard. I know it's a very personal album to him as he is going through some tough times in his personal life. So I'm not worried on what he will bring to this record, so expect a very real, aggressive and determined KATAKLYSM album! We know we have set the bar high for ourselves, but we are confident to deliver the goods once again. On the production end I will handle the recording as usual, but for the mix we have decided to enlist Tue Madsen from Denmark. We feel he captured best the band's sound on "In the arms of devastation". We feel it's a winning team and we're gonna make sure you have the best sounding record to date."

On X-mas day on the band`s Facebook, Twitter and Myspace pages, KATAKLYSM vocalist Maurizio Iacono will reveal the band`s new album title. The album is scheduled for release late summer / early fall 2010.

Dragged Into Sunlight sign with Prosthetic

Prosthetic Records has signed the UK's DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT to a worldwide recording contract. This marks the first signing of a UK act for the label, which will re-release the UK-based band's album, "Hatred For Mankind," in April, 2010. The album, recorded by Tom Dring and Billy Anderson (EYEHATEGOD, NEUROSIS, WEEDEATER), was originally released in 2009 by Mordgrimm Records (ANAAL NATHRAKH, COVENANT). The mysterious band, whose sound can be described as a mixture of black, death and doom metal, has shared the stage with acts such as VADER, GRIEF, TRAP THEM, GAMA BOMB and LAZARUS BLACKSTAR.

The band, who appear masked in photos, play in near total darkness and smoke and do not publicize their individual names, commented about today's heavy music scene: "A few blastbeats, a scrawled logo and people accept it, regardless of the reality. DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT is a concept, we've taken the time to come up with our own understanding and presentation of what we want to see associated with extreme metal in 2009 and beyond."

Terrorizer chronicle DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT as "crushing, sweeping and just plain riffing," praising their "crusty blackened doom" and "delicious black majesty." Meanwhile, Metal Hammer distinguished their sound as "a torrent of seething riffs so caustically expansive, they feel as though they're about the burst out of your skin. It's also the sheer, pre-meditated malice that drives them on a systematic rite of destruction, whose domineering, scorched-Earth tactics leave no synapse or nerve-ending unscathed."

The band will be making its first trek to North America this spring in support of the re-release.

Irreverence sign with Noisehead Records

The Milanese thrashers IRREVERENCE are glad to announce the achieved agreement with the austrian label NOISEHEAD RECORDS for the release of their fourth studio-work. The next studio-release that follows the previous "WAR WAS WON", released in 2006, that collected very good critiques by fans and persons involved in the work, and that allowed to the band excellent presences and live recognitions, will contains 10 unreleased tracks and will sign the awaited come back of the italian combo on the record market. The band will enter in the NOISEHEAD STUDIOS in KOHFIDISCH to start recording sessions at the beginning of JANUARY 2010, under the head of MARIO JEZIK, already producer of bands like DEMOLITION, DARKSIDE and many more. Cauldron to film DVD

For the past month, Canadian heavy metal heroes CAULDRON have been tearing their way around North America, leaving their infectious breed of timeless, true heavy metal ringing in everyone's ears along the way.

CAULDRON have been supporting labelmates MUNICIPAL WASTE on the North American leg of the "Waste the World" tour, and on this coming Sunday, December 6th, the tour will reach CAULDRON's hometown of Toronto, where the band are set to capture their show on film for an upcoming DVD.

The show will take place at the Opera House, where CAULDRON will be doing their utmost to put on a spectacular show for their hometown crowd. Toronto bangers can be assured of a particularly wild and crazy night, and with CAULDRON taking to the stage early, everyone should get down to the Opera House early for opening.

"Yes, we played Bellingham. Someone's gotta put Bellingham on the map. You can thank us later. I think we arrived sometime in the afternoon, around 3. Saw a couple record stores on the way into town so we made sure to stop by. Pretty slim pickin's in Bellingham. We left with 1 Frehley's Comet - Live... Plus 2356 VHS, 1 Beavis and Butthead "Butt-O-Ween" VHS and 1 Sepultura - Morbid Visions postcard to mail home to Mom. It was pouring rain here, a rude awakening after the tropical paradise of LA. Ian's sister Jane came down from Vancouver to see the sound check because she heard Cauldron's are really good.

"After that it was time to hang out on the bus watching Robocop while a throng of fans waited outside until the doors opened. Crazy punk guy with multiple knives was up front along with the true chi's from Stryker. Good set overall, even after some dude took our quality Washington brewed Rainiers off the stage. They even come with chunks of genuine Northwest dirt in every can. This was a late gig, and MW didn't hit the stage until after the stroke of midnite. A truly awkward crowd had gathered for their set. When Tony yelled "circle pit", people must have misheard and thought he said "backwards triangle and square pits simultaneously". After packing up the gear in more rain, it was time to hit the Canadian border. We must have done something right because we arrived at 3am, they stamped our passports and said "see ya", even with everyone's goofy and thuggish looking passports. And who's g onna believe that a long haired Korean tour manager's name is Lewis Lovely? Our tour mates Off With Their Heads were not so lucky and had to drop off the Canadian portion of the tour. Anyone know any bands?"

After the incredible response to While Heaven Wept's brand new album Vast Oceans Lachrymose - which continues to receive the very highest of accolades worldwide - Cruz Del Sur Music, as well as the continued demands from their audience, have finally convinced the band to reissue their long out-of-print past albums Sorrow Of The Angels and Of Empires Forlorn, each in limited-editions of 1000 hand-numbered CD's!

Dark Tranquillity finish new album

Swedish melodic death metal masters DARK TRANQUILLITY have finished the recordings of their ninth studio album, “We Are The Void”, which is going to be released via Century Media Records March 9, 2010

The band’s follow-up 2007’s “Fiction” was recorded at DARK TRANQUILLITY’s very own Rogue Music studio and mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen at Antfarm Studio in Denmark.

To follow the creation of this superb melodic death metal opus none less than Anders Björler (The Haunted, At The Gates) filmed a detailed studio report series which will be launched in the coming weeks. Episode 1 is up now, so check it out!

Swedish progressive melodic deathers SCAR SYMMETRY just got back from their devastating gig at this years Dreamhack, the world's biggest network convention!

Guitarist Per Nilsson comments: „We didn't know what to expect from the seated audience at Dreamhack, but when we got on stage people went NUTS, there was a moshpit and people sang along to the songs. An amazing experience!"

Swedish death metal veterans Unleashed are currently in Fredrik's "Chrome studio" for the recording of their 10th full length album. The album will be released on Nuclear Blast records early next year. Musically, it will be the logical continuation from "Midvinterblot" and "Hammer Battalion".
Lyrically, you will recognize what has become the Unleashed trademark since more than 20 years, the combination of the past, present and future of viking struggle and way of life. New album from Valfeanor

Austrian Black Metallers VALFEANOR have released their sophomore album on Swiss label Black Tower Productions. Titled “Noreia”, the album is named after the ancient city in the Eastern Alps, whose location is much disputed, and is often thought to have been situated in the Austrian region of Styria, where VALFEANOR is based. The ten-track album is the follow up to VALFEANOR’s 2007 release “En Ny Tid”. Track listing as follows:

Founded in 2002 by Desderoth, VALFEANOR is based around a nucleus of Desderoth himself on vocals, bass and keyboards, and Isiul on guitars and backing vocals, with session drummer Skull being drafted in for recording. Both Desderoth and Isiul are also members of the Austrian Black Metal band HELLSAW.

“Noreia”, with its rawer vocals and old school black metal sound, signals a significant departure from VALFEANOR’s debut album, which was loosely based around fantasy themes and was much more melodic in concept. Commented Desderoth: “Basically, both albums represent different styles that I wanted to experiment with, and it is not the intention of this band to limit itself in what terms of what it writes or plays. The third album has now been written, and we will most probably start recording guitars in January, and it will again be different from what came before. Let’s just say”, Desderoth comments somewhat tongue in cheek, “it was written during a period when I was going through a particularly bad time in my life, so I managed to get a lot of it out of my system by doing a fair amount of “trashing”.

Rotting Christ reveal album title

Set for a February 15th release, ROTTING CHRIST's upcoming album is entitled "AEALO", correlatively with the band's will to delve deeper than ever before into their Greek roots.

Frontman Sakis explains: "AEALO is the transcription of the ancient Greek word ΕΑΛΩ into the Latin alphabet. It means thrashing, catastrophe or destruction and reflects the musical and lyrical content of the album. The concept of 'AEALO' deals with the feelings of a warrior during a battle, therefore the album's title bears this sense of anger, fear and grief."

Dream Evil to release new album in January

The waiting is over, the time is right, the beast has returned: Sweden’s very own and very special DREAM EVIL have signed a new worldwide deal with Century Media Records and are finally back with a brand-new studio album entitled “In The Night” to continue their unrivalled pure M.E.T.A.L. crusade!

DREAM EVIL comment on extending their longterm contractual partnership and returning with a new album as follows:

“Finally, after three long years it's time to release a new album and at the same time we have again signed with Century Media Records. It's good to work with friends and that's what DREAM EVIL and Century Media has become over the past eight years.

The new album will be called "In The Night" and is again in DREAM EVIL’s very own vein. We're sure that this will become the strongest DREAM EVIL release so far and with songs like "Immortal", "In The Night", "Bang Your Head" and "In The Fires Of The Sun" we will melt your brains!”.

DREAM EVIL’s new studio album “In The Night” was once again produced at Sweden’s Studio Fredman (Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, HammerFall, etc.), which is owned by DREAM EVIL axeman Fredrik Nordström, and strikes back with the power of pure steel via Century Media Records on January 25th, 2010 in Europe and January 26th, 2010 in North America.

Enhancing the release of “In The Night”; DREAM EVIL will also come back to European stages, having lined up a special release club-show in Germany as well shows with Stratovarius and an appearance at 2010’s Bloodstock festival in the UK. Here are all the exact dates:

Metallica to release Mexican DVD

Metal veterans Metallica have issued the following update:

"In June of this year we were fortunate enough to return to Mexico City for three sold out shows at Foro Sol Stadium and with 155,000 of you there over the three nights, we knew it would be extra special. So we asked our friend Wayne Isham to join us with a film crew and the results of that crazy, magical, most memorable long weekend will be available on DVD and CD starting November 30 as "Orgullo, Pasion y Gloria: Tres Noches En La Ciudad de Mexico" ("Pride, Passion, and Glory: Three Nights in Mexico City").

The region free DVD's and CD's include songs from all three shows recorded on June 4, 6, and 7. Each show had a unique set list, totaling 34 different songs . . . they're all there on the two DVD set along with interviews with us. Other versions that will be available include one DVD (18 tracks), Blu-ray version of that DVD, a digi-pack with the DVD and two CD's, and finally the aforementioned deluxe version in a slip case with two DVD's and two CD's. Track listings for each configuration can be seen here. In keeping with the local theme, all the credits will be in Spanish (Portuguese for our Brazilian buddies) and will only be available at stores in Latin America. Of course we will also have it in The Official Metallica.com Store, starting sometime the week of December 7.

Most areas of Latin America will have the DVD available on November 30, however if you live in Brazil, check your local music store on December 8 and for fans in Argentina and Chile, "Orgullo, Pasion y Gloria: Tres Noches En La Ciudad de Mexico" hits the stores on December 10. All DVD's are region free and will play on any player worldwide.

And of course since we had such an amazing time in Mexico, we can't wait to go back . . ."

Double Dragon to enter studio

Tonight 26/11/2009 DOUBLE DRAGON will be uploading a live version of the title track to their upcoming new album, 'Blood' on myspace.

The song was recorded at Riverstage, Brisbane, on the opening night of their supporting tour with metal legends SLAYER and MEGADETH.

DOUBLE DRAGON are planning to hit the studios before the end of the year to record the follow up to their debut album "DEVASTATOR" and are
currently looking for international labels to release the new material to coincide with the bands plans to play overseas througout 2010.

In January DOUBLE DRAGON will be supporting Cleveland's CHIMAIRA Australia wide, and will be using the tour to showcase the new material
they have been working on throughout 2009.

Scar of the Sun open for Pain of Salvation

Greek atmospheric metal band SCAR OF THE SUN will be the opening act at PAIN OF SALVATION’s two newly announced shows in Greece, January 23-24, in Athens (Gagarin 205 Club) and Thessaloniki (Principal Club Theater) respectively. On both shows SOTS’ live performance will be followed by that of DISILLUSION (Germany), AGUA DE ANNIQUE (The Netherlands), LAKE OF TEARS (Sweden) and headliners PAIN OF SALVATION (Sweden).

Both shows are due to start at 6 pm. The ticket price for each show is 38 Euros. Tickets can be purchased in Athens at Ticket House, Ticket Pro and Rock City – in Thessaloniki at Metropolis and Musicland.

SCAR OF THE SUN’s debut studio album, “A Series of Unfortunate Concurrencies”, was mixed and mastered by acclaimed sound engineers Rhys Fulber (FEAR FACTORY, PARADISE LOST, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY etc) and Greg Reely (PARADISE LOST, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, SKINNY PUPPY etc) and features special guests such as Mikael Stanne (DARK TRANQUILLITY), Bob Katsionis (FIREWIND, OUTLOUD), Marios Iliopoulos (NIGHTRAGE), Chris Antoniou (SEPTIC FLESH) and Leah Randi (CONJURE ONE). The album has yet to be released as the band is currently shopping for a record deal.
