Vranginn's label collaborate with filmmaker
2009-11-23
Misantrof, the label that was founded and headed by CARPATHIAN FOREST bass player DANIEL VRANGSINN, and which makes all its releases available for free download, has branched out into films by joining forces with Danish horror filmmaker KIM SØNDERHOLM and Cetus Productions. Misantrof will release three of SØNDERHOLM’s films over the coming months, starting on the 22 November, with “The Horror Vault 1”, which comprises “nine tales of human cruelty, nine tales of human depravity, nine tales of true horror”. The titles of the nine tales are: When John Met Julia, Delusion, Alone, Mental Distortion, Dead To The World, Disconnected, Echoes, The Demon, Retina, and the film is available to download in its entirety at: http://the.horror.vault.misantrof.net.

The cooperation between Misantrof and the filmmaker began when some of VRANGSINN’s music was used in “The Horror Vault”, and again in SØNDERHOLM’s 2009 release “Rovdrift” (English title “Bleed With Me”), which debuted at the 13th International Weekend of Fear Film Festival, in Germany. A spokesperson for Misantrof commented: "It’s not such a big leap for Misantrof to go into making films available. It was always the intention that Misantrof would eventually be a venue for all forms of artistic expression and we are always interested in seeing how far we will be able to take things. This cooperation with Kim and Cetus Productions has given us the opportunity to expand into the area of film, and we are delighted that a filmmaker of his skill and experience chose to work with us”.

More information about KIM SØNDERHOLM can be found at http://www.myspace.com/sonderholm

Rotten Sound sign with Relapse Records
2009-11-23
Relapse Records is proud to announce the signing of Finland’s ROTTEN SOUND.

ROTTEN SOUND (Keijo Niinimaa – vocals, Mika Aalto – guitars, Sami Latva – drums, Toni Pihlaga - bass) formed in 1993 and have released a series of full-lengths and EP’s since their formation. ROTTEN SOUND’s latest album, Cycles, was released in January of 2008 and debuted at #12 on the Finnish charts.

ROTTEN SOUND are currently writing for their follow-up to Cycles but will first see an EP release early next year. The EP, Napalm, is scheduled for a March release via Relapse. Additional details on this release will be announced soon.

ROTTEN SOUND’s Niinimaa commented on the recent signing; “Relapse Records has been a strong label for grindcore since they started, which is one of the reasons that made us want to re-release our "Murderworks" album through them in 2005. We will fit to their roster like a fist to an ass. Being along the same line with other label-mates is very important for us because we want to tour all over this planet with bands we like ourselves. The upcoming “Napalm” EP and the next full-length album will start a new and (even) more aggressive era for Rotten Sound. Doing it together with Relapse Records will make this period more grind than any of our phases before.”

Decapitated return
2009-11-21
Polish tech death metal masters are finally back with a vengeance! After the band had to suffer tragic losses during the past two years, the last remaining founding member Vogg managed to put together a whole new line-up that will represent DECAPITATED anno 2010 as powerful and brutal as they were ever before.

To open that new chapter, DECAPITATED will embark on a co-headlining UK tour with fellow label mates KATAKLYSM in February 2010!

Commented Vogg: „Hello, what's up UK!! I am really happy to announce this short message for all DECAPITATED fans: As you all know, 2 years after the tragedies we had to suffer, I decided to continue the band. There's no sense in stopping this amazing thing we built up so many years ago together with Witek, Sauron, Martin and Covan. We chose to do our first tour in the UK because we have only good memories from this place and we are sure that you guys will support us... we need you!! I am very pleased to announce the new killer line-up of DECAPITATED: Kerim „Krimh" Lechner on Drums - he's a new blood, very talented and used to play in bands like THORNS OF IVY and TONE INTIMACY, amazing Rafał Piotrowski comes from bands like KETHA and FORGOTTEN SOULS and will take over vocal duties, where masterous Filip "Heinrich" Hałucha from VESENIA, ROOTWATER, UNSUN and MASACHIST will be destroying the bass!

See you all soon! We honestly can't wait!

New Within Temptation US release
2009-11-21
New York, NY: Symphonic rock outfit WITHIN TEMPTATION will release a forthcoming live album, An Acoustic Night at the Theatre, due out December 15. The release will be available via all digital music providers, while physical copies will be available exclusively at the newly-launched Roadrunner Records web store, http://store.roadrunnerrecords.com/.

In November 2008, Within Temptation embarked on a sold-out, intimate theatre tour in their native Europe, complete with seated audiences. The setup afforded the band the opportunity to rearrange several classics from its extensive catalogue to suit an acoustic performance. The album was recorded at the Muziekcentrum Frits Philips in Eindhoven, Holland on November 30 of last year. The performance was beautifully captured and demonstrates the simplified and stripped down side of the band.

Guitarist Robert Westerholt explained, “I was fascinated by the idea of giving our audience a much more individual experience by focusing on the essence of our songs and reducing the show to a minimum. At the same time the acoustic arrangements and sounds let you hear different influences in our music. For example, some Celtic elements which I think come out best when played acoustically.” Vocalist Sharon den Adel adds, “To show this other side of Within Temptation has been a dream of mine for quite some time. It was great to see that not only our existing fans but also people seeing us for the first time enjoyed it so much.”

Special guests include Life of Agony’s vocalist Keith Caputo for the single “What Have You Done.” Caputo guested on the album version, so it was only appropriate that he contributed to the live song, as well. Additionally, The Gathering’s Anneke van Giersbergen joins den Adel for a powerful partnership on “Somewhere.”

Of additional note, the album also contains the brand new song Utopia, written during the rehearsals for the theatre tour. A duet with UK singer-songwriter Chris Jones (who Sharon met while working with world-famous DJ Armin van Buuren on his track In And Out Of Love), Utopia will also be available as a digital single prior to the album release. The band are set to film a video shortly with director Oscar Verpoort. Poignantly written, Utopia is about two lovers who can't be together because they are separated by their contrasting dreams of the ideal life. "The only way to be together is for one of them to sacrifice their dream,” clarifies Sharon. “It really is about this one moment that we each inevitably experience: reaching a point in your life where you have to decide what you want your future to look like."

System Divide sign with Metal Blade
2009-11-21
Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of extreme modern metal act SYSTEM DIVIDE, featuring Sven De Caluwe (Aborted) and Miri Milman (ex-Distorted) on vocals, Cole Martinez (ex-Years Of Fire, Antenora) and Joseph Spiller (ex-The Binary Code) on guitars, Andrew Lenthe (Antenora) on bass, and Mike Heller (Malignancy) on drums. SYSTEM DIVIDE has already completed a video for the song The Apex Doctrine off the bands current EP, which will also be on the band's full-length Metal Blade debut. Check out a trailer for the new video below and be sure to head over to SYSTEM DIVIDE's MySpace page to listen to the tracks The Apex Doctrine and (n)Ether. Stay tuned for more information including when and where the video for The Apex Doctrine will premiere, track listing and release date of the band's debut full-length album The Conscious Sedation, and tour dates.

Vocalist Sven De Caluwe comments: “We couldn't be more thrilled to be part of the Metal Blade roster, a label that has been pushing the boundaries of extreme music and putting lots of great new acts in the spot light. We know SYSTEM DIVIDE is in the hands of a competent team of driven music FANS in the first place who believe in what we do, and we're going to give them their money's worth!!

We are completing the songwriting for our first album The Conscious Sedation and are about to enter the studio to start tracking by the end of the month, for those who checked out our EP, get ready for some surprises and more extreme modern metal madness! Rock 'n roll!!”

"Heavy, Brutal, Extreme, Melodic In Your Face Metal. These ingredients result in a unique visual and audio assault that numbs the senses. Vocalists Sven De Caluwe (Aborted) and Miri Milman (ex-Distorted), deliver a one-two punch unseen in Metal. We are very proud to add them to the Metal Blade Records family” comments Michael Faley of Metal Blade Records

About the band:
Founded in the summer of 2008, SYSTEM DIVIDE set out to revolutionize the conventions of the over-saturated melodic death metal genre, proving that extreme metal can have more depth than blast beats, while female vocals do not have to conform to the precepts of the “Goth” genre. In mixing many styles, The Collapse, the band's debut EP, breaks all the rules of extreme metal and is a landmark release for the new band.

As opposed to interjecting simple, predictable clean choruses into contrived song structures, SYSTEM DIVIDE unites serene female vocals and extreme vocals driven by lyrical themes that confront and seek to break everyday themes of disillusionment, societal materialism, and individual apathy. Musically, the band delivers myriad styles of riffing and grooves, while augmenting the entrancing soundscapes with hard-hitting drums and intricate bass lines. These elements together define the unique, spell binding, hypnotic sound of SYSTEM DIVIDE.

In order to achieve this complex calculus of sounds on The Collapse, Cole Martinez handled tracking duties at Conquistador Recordings. Mixing and mastering duties were handled by Jacob Hansen (Aborted, HateSphere, Volbeat) at Hansen Studios in Denmark in April and May 2009. Artwork for The Collapse was completed by Colin Marks (Strapping Young Lad, Aborted, Nevermore). The result is a sonic and visual masterpiece that metal has eagerly been waiting for.

The band recruited Joseph Spiller (ex-The Binary Code) as a second guitarist shortly after the release of The Collapse and continued writing for its first full length, The Conscious Sedation, due out early 2010. Following the philosophy of don't break up a winning team, the band once again will record with producer/engineer Cole Martinez and mix with Jacob Hansen in Denmark. A video has been shot for The Apex Doctrine by Kevin Custer (Hatebreed, Testament, Dope, Dying Fetus, Suffocation) and will hitting airways soon.

2009-11-19
London, UK-based progressive extreme metal band DE PROFUNDIS have inked a deal with Kolony Records to release their second album “A Bleak Reflection” in Europe. The album was recorded in June/July 2009 with producer Fernando Pereira Lopes (MISANTHROPE, ORAKLE) and mastered by Tim Turan (EMPEROR, OPETH, MOTORHEAD).

Commented the label:
“We at Kolony Records are very proud of this signing and would like to welcome DE PROFUNDIS to the label’s roster. The guys showed a lot of professionalism during all our discussions and we were really impressed with the international live experience of DE PROFUNDIS. That's the kind of band we like to work with!”

DE PROFUNDIS stated, "Right from the first communication, we have been very impressed by Kolony Records’ professional and honest approach. Following countless emails and a face-to-face meeting with the label
manager Lorenzo Marchello, we are confident that we have found the right
label to release our new album and help DE PROFUNDIS to reach the next level. We are very happy to be the part of the Kolony family and look forward to working with them for many years to come."

"A Bleak Reflection" will be released in Europe in the first week of February 2010 via Kolony Records and will come with a 12 page booklet, created by artist Darryll Jones, that hints at the concept behind the album’s lyrics. DE PROFUNDIS guitarist Roman Subbotin commented, "[the new album] represents a significant moment for our musical evolution. We've all worked really hard and, in my humble opinion, achieved rather spectacular results."

Amorphis to release anniversary DVD
2009-11-18
Finnish metal legends Amorphis will release their first-ever live DVD in the spring of 2010, in time for the band's 20th anniversary. The filming will take place on Friday, November 20, at Club Teatria in Oulu/Finland, where Amorphis will be supported by Stratovarius and Before The Dawn. In addition to the live material, the anniversary DVD will include plenty of bonus material documenting the band's impressive career.

Amorphis have just returned from a five-week European tour which included sold-out venues in London and Paris as well as in Sofia/Bulgaria and various German towns. Likewise, the current Finnish tour started with sold-out shows in Jyväskylä and Joensuu. Esa Holopainen comments: "After our successful European tour, it feels good to return to the Finnish stages. And it's great to notice that our ‘home folks' have not forgotten us. See you at the shows!"

Sylosis in the studio
2009-11-18
UK, Reading based modern thrashers SYLOSIS entered the studio past Friday to record the follow up to 2008s successfull debut „Conclusion Of An Age".

Again the band is working with Scott Atkins who already worked on the predecessor.

Commented mainman Josh Middleton: "We're ridiculously excited about starting work on the next album. We're definitely progressing as a band, incorporating some new influences to make an album that's more mature, darker and generally a lot heavier. I've been writing riffs thinking things like „what if (TOOL guitarist) Adam Jones played guitar in DEATH" haha. The songs are a little longer this time around and a bit more complex and technical which is something that's just happened naturally.
We're just about to start tracking the drums for ten days with producer Scott Atkins. We contemplated using other producers but we all really enjoyed working with Scott and we were really happy with the production on the last album. He really pushes for tightness and understands where we're coming from musically. In terms of the production, this time we're going to aim for a much more organic, raw sound. Rob 's really progressed as a drummer in the last year so I can't wait to hear him lay this stuff down in the studio. Once the drums are complete we head off on tour with DRAGONFORCE so we wont end up recording the guitars, bass and vocals etc until January."

Rhapsody of Fire sign with Nuclear Blast
2009-11-18
Italian metal heroes RHAPSODY OF FIRE return with a fantastic new album that will be released on March 5th, 2010 by their new label NUCLEAR BLAST, which is known for acts like Nightwish, Edguy or Blind Guardian.

"We are finally proud to announce to the world that Rhapsody Of Fire are stronger than ever and finally ready for their glorious come-back! We just signed a worldwide-level agreement with the legendary label ‘Nuclear Blast', at this time the greatest choice we could have ever done. Wonderful people, a great business vision and the best organization possible, for a relationship that can be anything else but successful for the years to come. In the last months we worked very hard and now all we can say is that a great new album, a real masterpiece of power/speed/symphonic metal, is finally ready!

It's title is ‘THE FROZEN TEARS OF ANGELS', it is produced by Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoli and it was mixed and mastered by our valorous friend Sascha Paeth at the Gate Studio in Wolfsburg (Avantasia, Epica and others).

This is not just a new album for us, but pure emotion carved in music. Lyrically it's based on the 3rd chapter of ‘THE DARK SECRET SAGA' and the long journey of five bravehearts to the frozen northern lands at the unexplored borders of the known world in order to find a way to stop the demonknight's prophecy. This album and its music will underline the feelings, hopes and fear of the main characters in this new epic adventure. All the drama of this new part of the saga will be as always enchanted by the soundtrack oriented orchestral arrangements and the majesty of opera choirs, real trademark of Rhapsody of Fire's music, but surely this album will sound more powerful, speed and guitar oriented than in the recent past, in order to underline the dark and romantic rage of the lyrics too.

Every song will have its own character, as you will be able to fly with the angels of the crystal realms through the cold skies of the north on the notes of hit-songs like ‘SEA OF FATE' (song written for the first time together by Luca Turilli, Alex Staropoli and Fabio Lione), ‘RAGING STARFIRE' or ‘THE FROZEN TEARS OF ANGELS', and at the same time you will have a taste of the angels' holy rage listening to ‘REIGN OF TERROR', real gem of this new production. The energy of more extreme metal applied to positive lyrics hymning to the victory of hope, truth and respect over the inner demons lying in the depths of our conscience for a unique contrast never heard before and that made us really excited while composing this song.

This new CD will include a great looking cover artwork, created this time by a new and incredibly talented artist able to turn the drama of our fantasy world into a serious, cinematic and realistic representation, and a complete booklet including all the details of the saga's new chapter. The album will be released as a special limited deluxe digipak (first edition) including two bonus tracks and an incredible 32-pages booklet, as well as a standard jewelcase and of course on vinyl.

We are looking forward to inviting you to the unexplored snowy and icy majestic landscapes of the north, that mystical dark frozen world where even the tears of our beloved angels can't be anything else but frozen!"

In-Quest to release new album on their own
2009-11-18
Belgian metallers have issued the following update:

"After trying different labels, we didn't manage to find anything satisfying enough.
It seems it's crisis everywhere - we notice a clear difference with the past. Labels don't even answer anymore whilst they used to send out real letters. If things got that bad that labels can't afford simple stamps anymore, I wonder what the future will bring for metal music.
The answers we got were generally very positive, but blamed our retail history + Belgium as a C-country and hence not interesting enough to invest in. Things went that far that major label staff were asking for free merch and goodies since they really think the band is awesome, but didn't want to sign.
There were offers, but what's the point in signing a deal with a label that can't do promotion or is not willing to invest in some decent touring.
So eventually, we're planning to release it ourselves. There is some slack going on in the artwork part of it. Once that is ready, everything can be ordered. We expect to have the disc out in nov/dec.
All in all, the atmosphere in the band is better than ever and we're definately driving a more 'arty' course now. So in a way doing this ourselves feels 'right' and gives us the opportunity to give the fans the most out of it; a splendid digipack ft. 12 page booklet and the 'mind over matter' video on the disc. We're also thinking about doing something super limited for the first 100 ones, depending on how much money there's left for us to spend on this record.
When it's ready, you'll be the first to know of course..." Cheers... in-Quest

Kid Liberty sign with Trustkill Records
2009-11-18
Trustkill is proud to announce the newest member of the TK family... KID LIBERTY from Sherman, TX! After an impressive EP release last year the band has been on tour ever since destroying clubs and fans alike with their original brand of melody-infused hardcore. Kid Liberty will record their debut full length "Fight With Your Fists" for Trustkill in December with producer Geoff Rockwell (Forever the Sickest Kids, Memphis May Fire) for a Spring 2010 release.

Singer Trey Sexton says, "We are going to write this record about all the changes we've all been through, good and bad, throughout the last 71,000 miles of our lives. We like to keep things positive and fun for the most part, but there are a few of those ruthless, pissed of songs that will be included . We want this record to be overall a good time."

With an aggressive combination of many genres, Kid Liberty is determined to land a place in the heart of every person that comes across their music. If that's not enough for you, they've got a live show that will most certainly catch your attention. With the mentality of a hardcore band and the catchy melodies of a pop band, this is a band that will leave you dumbfounded. This is Kid Liberty.

After the release of the "Never Say Never" EP, Kid Liberty spent the next year and a half on road traveling coast to coast, over and over again. The constant DIY touring ended up landing them a spot on tour with Stick to Your Guns, In Fear and Faith, and Stray from the Path. There was definitely something going right as the band watched more kids enter the venues on every tour. Not to mention, around 5,000 copies of EP sold solely on the road.

Trey Sexton commented on the signing and said "Trustkill was the first label we ever talked to period. In the last year we've been in and out with several labels and we are so thankful things came around and we ended up where we really wanted to be from the beginning. We are excited about our future with the label and know we will make an amazing team together."

Winterfylleth sign with Candlelight
2009-11-18
Formed in 2007 with the intention of honoring England’s proud ancestral heritage and rich national culture, WINTERFYLLETH (comprised of members culled from the UK’s most devastating doom contingent Atavist) set a solidified mission statement to bring awareness to England’s historical stories, folklore, landscapes and ancestral past through their folk-influenced vitriolic black metal.

Coining the term English Heritage Black Metal (EHBM), WINTERFYLLETH -- which translates to "Winter Full Moon" from the Olde English language -- represents the first full moon in October as well as the Anglo-Saxon festival of the arrival of winter. The band generated a massive response from the underground with their Rising of the Winter Full Moon demo leading to their union with Profound Lore Records. Rising of the Winter Full Moon displayed a fierce focused vision on what WINTERFYLLETH wanted to achieve through their music, and with their The Ghost of Heritage debut, that vision became even more solidified and fleshed out.

By combining vicious yet moody folk inspired black metal that harkens back to the early days of Enslaved and early Ulver, WINTERFYLLETH also conjure feelings and moods reminiscent of Drudkh, Hate Forest and Forefather, while forging new ground to lead the recent black metal movement in the UK. Lyrically, the band delve into tales of England’s archaic history, recounting major events and battles and drawing inspiration from certain sites that grace the countryside of England.

The band recently signed to Candlelight Records for the release of their forthcoming 2010 album The Mercian Sphere.

Said guitarist/frontman Chris Naughton: "WINTERFYLLETH are proud to have been given the opportunity to sign with such an influential and well respected label as Candlelight Records. It is awesome for our band to now feature alongside some of the most crucial black metal artists from the last decade. We are particularly honored to be in the ranks amongst bands like Emperor, Enslaved -- who are one of my biggest influences -- Anaal Nathrakh, Absu and 1349 as well as some newer greats like Xerath. We are looking forward to the chance to work with a label that is as passionate about releasing great music as we are. Here’s to good things! Hail Heritage! Hail Candlelight!"

WINTERFYLLETH Lineup:
Chris Naughton (guitar/vocals)
Simon Lucas (drums/backing vocals)
Nick Wallwork (bass/backing vocals)
Mark Wood (guitar/backing vocals)

Axemaster becomes Inner Terror
2009-11-18
Axemaster is officially changing its name to INNER TERROR. Although the name Axemaster has a rich history that dates back to the middle 80's, the band decided that their new lineup, more modern sound, and greatly improved writing and performance created the need for a change and a fresh start. A decision that will allow them to break away from the old and concentrate on the new.

The band's new Myspace page can be found at www.myspace.com/theinnerterror. There, along with the one downloadable track that was available on the previous page, are 2 newly uploaded medleys that contain clips of 6 songs that will be included on the CD "The Inner Terror".

Gloria Morti in the studio
2009-11-18
Gloria Morti is entering studio to record their third full length album. The recordings of the album will be carried out in the same fashion as the last album “Eryx” by Juho Räihä in SoundSpiral studios. The recordings will start on November, 21st. There will be a studio diary online which will keep us up to date about the recording process.
The working title of the album is “Anthems Of Annihilation” and it will contain ten tracks of the most diverse and crushing Gloria Morti material to date.

“Anthems Of Annihilation” is a concept album about mankind making an irreversible mistake in trying to overcome all of its biggest problems. The storyline borders from a war between men and machines to the slavery and exploitation of a whole generation. The lyrical theme takes a stance on current problems and is a reminder of the stupidity of man.

Some working titles of the tracks:
”The Solution Called War”
”Awakening of a Discordant Machine”
”Infiltration”
”Swallowed by Defeat”
”Obey”

Besides of that the band revealed that Jenni Kemppainen is no longer a part of Gloria Morti. The keyboard arrangements on “Anthems Of Annihilation” will be written and performed by our long time friend Lars Eikind (Producer on Lifestream Corrosion, Additional keyboard arrangements on Eryx.)

Expect fast blast beats, flesh ripping melodies and huge soundscapes.

Gloria Morti is stronger than ever!
