Crocell sign management deal
2009-11-18
The Danish death metal band Crocell has inked a deal with Death Rides A Horse Agency. Thus Death Rides A Horse Agency is now in charge of Crocell’s booking and management. Among other things the agency is going to help searching for a suitable label to release Crocell's upcoming, as-yet-untitled album. A couple of labels have already shown interest but no final decisions have been made at this point.

Smukke Ken comments: “It’s very cool for Crocell to have Death Rides A Horse Agency as a partner as that enables us to focus on what it is all about: the music. The first shows have already been confirmed and as we speak European shows are in the process so the agency is doing its job very well.
Regarding the new album I can say that drums and guitars are finished by now and it seems to turn into a diverse death metal record with a lot of Scandinavian power and raw energy – if you liked “The God We Drowned”, you might as well begin to look forward to it!”

In other news, Crocell are nominated in the two categories ”best debut album” and ”best cover” at the Danish Metal Awards 2010. The award show takes place in Amager Bio (Copenhagen) in January.

Sweden's Expulsion exhumed
2009-11-18
In 1988 Expulsion was formed out of the ashes of thrash band River's Edge. River's Edge vocalist Johan Edlund went on to start Treblinka, and later Tiamat. Magnus Krantz, the lead guitarist of River's Edge joined Tranquillity. Bassist Anders Holmberg, guitarist Stefan Lagergren and drummer Calle Fransson continued to play together, as Expulsion. Anders and Stefan also played with Johan and Juck in Treblinka and both played on the legendary Tiamat debut 'Sumerian Cry'.

Two demos were released, Cerebral Cessation and Veiled In The Mists of Mystery, before the band was put on hold in late 1990.
In the end of 1991, the band reformed with a different line-up, and released the EP A Bitter Twist of Fate, and the albums Overflow and Man Against.

In 2010, Vic Records will release Certain Corpses Never Decay, a compilation of the two demos, together with an unreleased 7" and a compilation-only track.
Expulsion is, however, not reunited. http://www.myspace.com/expulsionswe

Deadmarch album out soon
2009-11-18
DEADMARCH is the first version of The Project Hate MCMXCIX. Just like The Project Hate MCMXCIX, Deadmarch is Lord K. Philipson’s (God Among Insects & Odyssey, tour session for Grave, Dark Funeral) brainchild together with Mia Stahl on female vocals and Mikael Öberg, growls. The DEADMARCH album 'The Project Hate MCMXCIX: Initiation of blasphemy' is recorded back in 1998 with Tomas Skogsberg at the famous Sunlight Studios in Stockholm, Sweden (Entombed, Dismember Grave etc).
The initial plan was to record some extra vocals with Jörgen Sandström (ex Grave / Entombed, now The Project Hate and Krux) and to release the DEADMARCH album under the The Project Hate MCMXCIX moniker. Strangely, Skogsberg told Philipson the day before he was to enter the studio with vocalist Sandström that he had lost the master tapes. So the DEADMARCH album release was put on ice until Vic Records signed The Project Hate as it was obvious this pearl had to be released.
The album is finally mastered by Dan Swanö (Opeth, Katatonia, Dissection) at Unisound, Sweden, 2008. All cover and booklet artwork by Marko Saarelainen (The Project Hate, Pestilence).

Order of Ennead working on new album
2009-11-18
Kevin Quirion, vocalist/guitarist of the Floridian extreme metal band, ORDER OF ENNEAD has been keeping an updated MySpace blog detailing the daily exploits of the band as they record the followup to their eponymous 2008 debut album with producer, Mark Lewis (ORDER OF ENNEAD, TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, ALL THAT REMAINS) at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, FL.

Quirion's studio updates have ranged from the informative to the downright bizarre - such as the entry that details how a tragic office shooting coincidentally would delay the day's recording schedule. Here's the latest update written by the ORDER OF ENNEAD frontman this past Monday:

"Day 5
Nov 16th 2009

Just a day of all work. Tracked five songs today and it all went very smooth. Mark and myself were the only ones in the studio today. Only two more to do tomorrow. Might start bass and vocals or we might do some random atmosphere and solo sections. We'll see how we feel tomorrow."

Keep updated on the progress of the album by going to http://bit.ly/2IYSKj

ORDER OF ENNEAD's new album is tentatively set for release in Spring 2010.

Gwar and Korpiklaani for Bloodstock
2009-11-18
BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR has confirmed a further two acts for next years festival. After being forced to pull out in 2009, it is with great honour, anticipation and a touch of nerves that we can confirm GWARs EXCLUSIVE return to the UK. The Grammy-nominated Scumdogs Of The Universe will be flying in from Antarctica to unleash hell on all in attendance. Frontmonster Oderus Urungus warns us of the impending orgy of bodily fluids, nuclear waste and all manner of murder and vulgarity.

Greetings people of Earth, it is I, ODERUS URUNGUS, lead singer of the BLOODIEST band in metal history, the mighty GWAR! And it is with a sense of toe-curling delight and impending DOOM that I announce the addition of the GWAR to the mammoth BLOODSTOCK Open Air Metal Festival to be held this summer in England. Thats right, from the frozen depths of Antarctica, GWAR brings what BLOODSTOCK needs...BLOOD! Prepare yourself for the most colossal, disgusting, and completely politically incorrect show in metal history! We'll bring the swords, you bring the bodies, and together we shall turn the slam-pit into a seething mass of DEATH not seen in Europe since the fall of Berlin! GWAR is playing BLOODSTOCK...and may the Pope choke on it!

Next up, Finnish folk-metal heroes KORPIKLAANI will be bringing their band of merry metal to Derby this summer for their only UK appearance of 2010. With a repertoire of upbeat songs, mostly about alcohol and partying, KORPIKLAANI are the perfect band to raise your tankards to while enjoying the festival sunshine. The band are eagerly anticipating their return to the Bloodstock stage:

We are very glad to get a chance to play in Bloodstock Open Air again after few years. Last time was our first festival in England and the audience was wild and good as always there. We are looking forward to the festival very much already, and we hope there is enough cold beer like the last time.

The BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL 2010 will take place at Catton Hall, Derbyshire from 13th - 15th August.

Mayhem in jail
2009-11-18
According to various national Dutch news websites, seven members and two crewmembers of Norwegian Black Metal act MAYHEM were arrested on last Monday morning. After their stay in a hotel room, the furniture turned out to be fully wrecked. An employee of the Hotel Central discovered the mess in the morning. Plants were thrown onto the street, mirrors and a sink were wrecked, curtains torn apart and also the beds and TV set were destroyed. The walls were fully stained. Damage was caused for around 5000€. The band members and crew were kept in custody until the compensation was paid.

MAYHEM frontman Attila comments on the incident: "Needless to say that I was not involved (and neither was Necrobutcher) so luckily I was not arrested.

"What happened AGAIN is that the 18 year old promoter disappeared with a 1000€ advance on his account, a couple of days before the first show of the tour. That is the problem with internet: anyone can act like a booking agent... He continually lied, saying it was all booked but we found out at the very end that we had no flights booked and nothing was managed except for promotion at the local clubs and sales of hundreds of tickets in advance. So we decided to book our own flights, local transportation and backline from our own efforts on the last day before the tour started, in order to play this small tour just to be loyal to the fans and to the local promoters (who were freaking out too, of course)... I think we were cool, but you can imagine the stress we were under.

"Then of course you can imagine that this tour was not the best of our lives, but we somehow managed to play good shows and make the best out of it and we survived somehow, swallowing a lot of crap. On the night after the last show, the guys got drunk and exploded in that really bad hotel, a hotel in which we didn't even have toilets in the room. I saw part of it, and when I woke up it was a big mess. To me it looked both funny and sad at the same time... Actually, it was not only Mayhem involved, but some people from the local crew too, who worked for us on the tour as drivers. I agree it was stupid of course, but what could I do? I hope they all learned from a good lesson now. Maybe it makes a bit more sense after reading these lines..."

The Old Dead Tree split up
2009-11-18
We are sorry to announce French goth metallers THE OLD DEAD TREE decided to call it quits. Here is frontman Manuel's official statement:

"The Old Dead Tree is no more.

"I wish I never had to write those words, but nothing is forever. These last few months, some disagreements started to grow within the band, regarding commitment and musical direction in the making of our fourth album. Those differences of opinions soon turned out to be a dead-end problem and led me to make the decision of ending the band's activities.

"In twelve years of existence, The Old Dead Tree had its share of line-up changes. Of course, each of them has been an improvement, but they were also painful losses. And I do not want to face that kind of loss again.

"Be that as it may, I am still extremely proud of the work we have achieved and I want to thank all the people without whom nothing would have been possible: past and present band members with whom I learnt so much and had amazing times, our wonderful crew, our label Season of Mist, our tour booker K Productions, and especially the fans who supported us and encouraged us to go forwards. I wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

"This is now farewell."

Season of Mist thanks THE OLD DEAD TREE for having created three great albums and wish its members good luck for the future. So long, guys!

Rotting Christ recording new album
2009-11-18
ROTTING CHRIST's upcoming album, whose title will be announced soon, is to be released on next February 15th! You will also be pleased to know the Greek metallers invited some famous guests to be featured on the album, namely Greek-American vocalist Diamanda Galas and PRIMORDIAL frontman Alan A. Nemtheanga!

Here is Alan's comment: "'Satanas Tedeum' was one of the very first Black Metal demos I got in 1989. I have been a fan since then so it was with pleasure and honour to sing with a band that I have been a fan of for 20 years and friends with from the old tape trading zine network since 1991. We have toured together and I have visited Hellas many times over the years. Somewhere around the late 90s, the scene became fixated with Nordic metal and forgot that great music was still being made in South America, Canada, Australia, Asia, in Eastern Europe and that the Greek scene is one of the oldest. Some of us however do not forget so my contribution is to honour 20 years of great music and friendship...

"It sounds classic Rotting Christ although it sees them continue where they left off with 'Theogonia', further away from the older 'satanic' feel and more into the realm of the ancient Greek gods, mythology and folklore. I think and feel it is this influence that has in many ways unchained the band, giving them more freedom to explore their own heritage and culture. It invokes the proud spirit of history, just as Primordial tries to do! In this respect we are like brothers!"

ROTTING CHRIST main man Sakis made the following comment on Alan's participation: "Collaborating with Alan from Primordial on a song from the new album was an honour for our band. By including his great voice in our album, we believe he brought the mood we were seeking for this specific song: a Celtic mood that has so many similarities with the ancient Greek culture and atmosphere that this album exhales. Alan definitely lifted up the specific song because his voice is great and, most importantly, unique. We are honoured to work with the voice of Ireland!"

As for Diamanda Galas' feature, the song she appears on is a cover of "Orders from the Dead", from the lady's "Defixiones, Will and Testament" album, to which Sakis wrote new music.

"It is a huge honour for our band to have Mrs Diamanda Galas on our new album", Sakis states. "Getting her approval to use her voice as it can be originally heard in her "Orders from the Dead" song feels like we did the most successful cover in our career, with one of the most soulful songs in the history of music. The dead are still waiting for their justification..."

Morbid Angel sign with Season of Mist
2009-11-18
The whole Season of Mist staff is immensely proud to finally confirm the rumour and announce that the label has inked a worldwide deal (outside of Japan) with cult death metal band MORBID ANGEL!

Formed in 1984, MORBID ANGEL are one of the pioneering bands of death metal as well as the current masters of extreme music and to date easily the best selling artist in the genre. The band has had a glorious 20 plus year history and significant commercial success, selling well over a million and a half albums on their eight albums to date.

"I am truly looking forward to our new relationship with Season of Mist", frontman David Vincent comments. "Michael Berberian has a lot of artistic vision and is a real music fan. This has been a long process to get to this point and in my opinion, it was worth the wait!"

"I'm really stoked to be working now with SOM!!!!", adds founding member Trey Azagthoth. "The French have always shown me they much more value art over Fabricated Flatlined Hype, and it's this artistic minded value that will open so many new doors for extreme music as a whole. Mind Makes Meaning, why not own the process?"

Season of Mist will release the Floridians' ninth album in 2010.

Augury part with drummer
2009-11-14
Creators of a progressive-minded extreme metal, Montreal's juggernauts AUGURY sadly report the departure of their drummer Antoine Baril.

States Baril:
"I'm very sad to have to announce my departure from AUGURY. Some personal and professional reasons have made multiple tours impossible for me at the moment. I wish all the best for AUGURY because those wonderful guys are making incredibly good music. I will never forget those memorable shows and I would like to thank everyone for their support on the road everywhere we've been on tour."

States the band:
"AUGURY thanks Antoine for all the good times and excellent music, and we wish him well in all aspects of his life. He will remain a close friend for all of us. For the upcoming tour with VADER, drummer Robin ‘Frog' Stone from Australian industrial metal mad scientists THE AMENTA will take over the drum throne. He is a very tight and skilled drummer, having learned our set in a matter of hours. We have a new drummer ready in Montreal for the upcoming tours. Videos and name will be revealed soon."

Esoteric in search of new members

The Ocean recruit new singer
2009-11-14
Germany's THE OCEAN have issued an update on their vocalist situation and the progress of their follow up to 2007's epic double-disc master piece, Precambrian.

After many weeks in the dark, THE OCEAN have finally found a new vocalist. "We are happy to announce Mr. Loïc Rossetti as our new vocalist. We are looking forward to weeks and months of intense touring in the future and a new era in the story of our lives!" comments guitarist Robin Staps.

"Having Loïc in the band enables me to do what I've always wanted to do with this band. His voice is strong and expressive and his variety of tone and the ease with which he switches between different vocal styles really amazing. There are no limits anymore. His screams are devastating, but his most valuable quality is his singing voice, which we will employ much more on the upcoming album."

Comments Loïc Rossetti: "Being part of The Ocean is a great honour for me. I can utilize the full spectre of my voice, and the band is pushing me to do so…it's a great challenge."

Over the course of the past 6 months, the band has received more than 150 applications from people from all over the world. "Many have recorded vocals for 'The City in the Sea' and there was a lot of good stuff coming in. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to try out, we truly appreciate it!", comments Jonathan Nido.

The addition of Rossetti marks the final step in a recent development within the band: after 8 years of existence, THE OCEAN has recently been transforming from a collective into a band. This doesn't mean that there will not be changes of line-up ever again: "I have been playing music long enough to know that people are usually in this for a limited time", comments Staps, "but the people I am working with now are the people I have always been looking for, and naturally, everyone else is much more involved than ever before."

The collective is not dead. As a matter of fact, the upcoming album will feature the largest number of additional musicians to date, mainly classical players. The band has spent the better part of the year working feverishly on their upcoming two albums which are due for March and September 2010 releases. More news will follow soon.

“Full of cinematic breadth and orchestral majesty…rhythmic sea changes and powerful riffing.” Revolver Magazine

“ambitious, stirring, and musically stunning. Prepare to be swept away.” Outburn Magazine

“Sounding more epic than a Ridley Scott flick…larger than life, incorporating loads of guitar, strings, percussion…as emotionally draining as any heavy-hitting drama.” TheIndiePit.com

“The Ocean are like High On Fire, Baroness, Om, Wolves In The Throne Room and other bands who have started making heavy music for adults. This isn't bursts of hatred fired randomly nor is it clichéd imagery tossed about for shock value.” CraveOnline.com

As I Lay Dying in the studio
2009-11-14
Hollywood film festival winners AS I LAY DYING are busy in the studio recording their new album. Here´s an update straight from singer Tim Lambesis!

“We've released little bits of information here or there in previous news posts and blogs, but there are still questions coming in concerning what we've been up to. Below is an unquestionably obvious outline concerning our future plans…

1) We started working on new album

2) We started recording that new album a few weeks ago with Adam D & Daniel Castleman at the reigns (and JMR for a couple weeks)

3) There are only drums for 8 songs tracked so far. One of them may be questionable, but maybe vocals will help it make sense. Either way, we need write more than 8 songs (since they aren't as long as the 8 songs on Master of Puppets). Therefore we're working on writing MORE new songs as soon as we finish recording what's been started.

4) The only break in working on the new album will be our short trip to Mexico and Sri Lanka to play two of the best shows of our career.

5) All of us can't stress enough how grateful we are to be writing music that we love while still receiving a paycheck. This can only be credited to OUR LOYAL FANS! Sometimes bands need to rush out a crappy record so they can start touring again to pay their bills. In our case, we plan to make a record worth listening to (hopefully), and start touring again when we're done. Thanks for your patience and understanding. We care and we're working. In fact, I haven't had a full nights rest since March when the coolest kid ever made me a DAD!”

HOD part with bassist
2009-11-14
We were just informed of the following news about Hod bassist Derrick Rivers leaving the band to focus his efforts on battling cancer. Vocalist Beer Reebs shares the following information about Rivers, as well as other Hod happenings.

"Our original bassist Dirty Derrick has been battling cancer and thus far has been successful. However, he was recently informed that it had come back in his liver and possibly his lungs and will begin treatment for it again within a few weeks. He’s decided in the interest of his health, that he will be hanging up the bass to focus on taking care of himself. Although the band hates to see him go we all completely understand and support his decision to do so. His last performance with Hod will be this Saturday, November 14th, at The Goregrowler's Ball 3 in San Antonio, TX at The Rock Bottom Tattoo Bar. Taking Dirty Derek's place on the bludgeoning four strings will be Trans Am from the Austin, TX based grindcore band, Pleasant Valley. His first live performance with Hod will be Saturday December 5th at Downtown Music in Littlerock, AR with Deadbird and Vore."

"In other Hod news, I’m pleased to announce that the band is four songs into the second full length album and follow up to /Serpent/. It is scheduled for recording in early 2010 and set to be recorded at Raging Steel Fury Studios in Austin, TX by Ignitor/Agony Column guitarist Stuart "Batlord" Lawrence. It is set to be mixed and mastered at Sweden's Necromorbus Studios and released by Ibex Moon Records."

"Finally, 2010 also has some heavy show activity coming up. We have shows lined up with bands like Gravehill, Godless Rising, Blaspherian, and legendary crossover band D.R.I., to name a few."ClawHammer PR and Ibex Moon Records wish all the best to Derrick Rivers in what we hope will be a victory over his illness.

The Grotesquery sign with Cyclone Empire
2009-11-14
Most of you already have heard about it, but to make it official: We are very proud to announce the signing of a really promising and outstanding new band on the map of mighty Death Metal:

THE GROTESQUERY are the new cooperation of legendary US Death Metal icon Kam Lee (Ex-singer of MASSACRE, DENIAL FIEND, DEATH / MANTAS) and Swedish jack-of-all-trades riffing-master Rogga Johansson (PAGANIZER, DEMIURG, RIBSPREADER, Ex-DERANGED, EDGE OF SANITY…). This marks their second teamwork after the cool BONE GNAWER.

Kam and Rogga had a several talks about creating a new band that would base it's lyrical themes on the dark supernaturual and creating a sort of 'concept' type album. With lyrics based on stories by H.P. Lovecraft's Macabre Tales, Ghost stories & poems by Ambrose Bierce & Edgar Allan Poe, the occult, the paranormal, the supernatural, all the morbid horrid terrors hidden in the dark places of the earth and those things that go bump in the night!

And to do it as a project with the type of music highly influenced from the brutal style of early 90's death metal bands - with a touch of the avant-garde and an unorthodox and experimental feel.
Keeping with traditional 90's "old school death metal style and sound" and forming a haunting atmosphere and chilling story line, Kam has crafted a gothic horror tale within his lyrics around ten dynamic, intense, and morbidly atmospheric death metal music tracks written by Rogga.

With the addition of master bass player Johan Berglund from the band THIS HAVEN and the intense percussion skills of master Brynjar Helgeton of the band LIKLUKT, THE GROTESQUERY is born from out of the grave!

The Story:

A dark story reflecting the evil deeds of a desperate man in order to save his 'coffin born' son from death. With the use of necromancy and forbidden black magick the man conjures forth the very gods of death and shadow, and thus makes a ghastly deal. In order to save his son he must take a life for every year his child is to live. The songs take you on a journey thru out the years of this mad mans fall from grace as he murders and kills victim after victim for every year his son is to live. And as the years pass on - the child becomes something of a grotesquery itself, lurking in shadows, feeding off of the blood of his father's sacrifices, and morbidly playing with the dead. The father must use geometric transfiguring magick to construst a dwelling for his son to live in from the safety of the world. And all the while the boy has become death incarnate itself. The child hideously deformed and existing somewhere between life and death, as a revenant - an undead, whose only companions are the corpses and mummified remains of the dead and the twisted little homunculi his father has created.

So prepair yourself to be taken on a ghastly morbid journey of death, doom, and self destruction!

The Album will be called ‘Tales Of The Coffin Born’ and is scheduled to be released on the 22nd of January 2010 on CYCLONE EMPIRE.

Final Breath return to the live scene
2009-11-14
Since the last live show in December 2007 there was silence around FINAL BREATH. No sign of life, no clear band statement, rumours about a split-up.... but it's a fact after years of hard work our battaries were empty. Each rehearsal feels like an inconvenient obligation, live shows were routine only, no space left for creativity. A considerable breathing space was the one and only solution - but not our final breath!

The time has come to open a new chapter of band history. At the moment with a new motivation we revise and/or revolutionize new song material we've written 2 years ago for a new album. Recordings are planned for some time in 2010 so far.

Meanwhile we'll be back on stage for some well-chosen live shows. The live premier after this long time we'll celebrate at Posthalle in Würzburg:

SIX FEET UNDER, ILLDISPOSED, FINAL BREATH + Supports
08th December 2009, Würzburg - Posthalle

Further live shows are planned!

Stay thrashed
FINAL BREATH

Heiko Krumpholz - Drums (since 1993)
Jörg Breitenbach - Guitar / Leads (since 1997)
Jürgen "Eumel" Aumann - Vocals (since 2001)
Thomas Wissel - Bass (1993 - 2002, 2009 - )
Daniel Bergauer - Guitar (since 2007)
