Heidevolk to record new album
2011-07-01
Heidevolk issued an update for their fans: "Brothers and sisters! This summer we will record our fourth opus. The new, as-of-yet untitled CD will be a concept album, featuring nine songs based on the early history of the Batavian tribe. It will be recorded in Nico van Montforts's XPZ studio in Oppidum Batavorum, Gelderland, and the Abyss Studio in Pärlby, Sweden. Peter Tägtgren will take care of drum production and mixing. We expect to release it in early 2012."

New Lock Up album out now
2011-07-01
The new album of the death-grind super group LOCK UP „Necropolis Transparent“ is out now!!

LOCK UP, featuring Shane Embury (NAPALM DEATH, VENOMOUS CONCEPT), Nicolas Barker (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, ex-DIMMU BORGIR), Tomas Lindberg (AT THE GATES, DISFEAR), Anton Reisenegger (CRIMINAL, PENTAGRAM) and featutring guest-appearances from Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy/Pain) and Jeff Walker (Carcass) have uploaded an album preview for their new milestone in grind. Check it out below.

Producer Andy Sneap commented the new stuff:
“Having known Nick and Shane (a.k.a. the sumo tag team of grindcore) since the late 80's its always great to get together with old friends and make some noise in the studio. "Necropolis Transparent" by far, surpasses what we achieved together back in 1999 with "Pleasures Pave Sewers" in terms of brutality, speed and song writing along with the help of new guitarist Anton Reisenegger (Criminal, Pentagram). For me personally ,it was quite refreshing and great fun to do something this extreme, especially with my mates Nick, Shane and Carcass mainman/Mersey scally Jeff Walker swinging by the studio to handle guest vocal duties and help us drink way too much.
I have to say that "Necropolis Transparent" is way more than just another grindcore album, it has elements of everything that represents brutal and extreme-An absolute MUST for everyone out there that like their metal full of aggression, violence and pure savagery. BUY OR DIE!!!”

Cipher System sign with Nuclear Blast
2011-07-01
Nuclear Blast records, is happy to announce the signing of the swedish futuristic and extreme metal act CIPHER SYSTEM.

15 years after the birth of the band, CIPHER SYSTEM returns with what has to be described as a masterpiece in a genre where innovation has become sparse, putting their murderous machinations on public display, forged with fearsome skill and precision: “Communicate The Storm”. Packed in the rapturous art of a true genius of darkened visuals, Seth Siro Anton (Soilwork, Paradise Lost, SepticFlesh), and with a mix once again stemming from the hallowed grounds of Studio Fredman, this colossus of an album is sure to send tremors throughout the scene when it hits the street on September, 9th 2011!

The band is adding: „When you have been in this business as long as we have, you take everything with a bit of "this will never happen, but it would be great if it did" attitude. That is how we protect ourselves from not being broken down by all setbacks. So when we finished mixing "Communicate The Storms" we thought we had an great album in our hands, but after 6 months of recording and around 2 years of writing it, we didn't really knew for sure. But when we got contacted by Nuclear Blast we knew that we were on to something. It's a true honor to be signed to the label that gave us "Storm Of The Light's Bane", "Jester Race", "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" to name a few. Nuclear Blast was our goal and dream label when we started playing in the 90's, and we have finally found our way home.

We want to thank all the people, friends and fans all around the world for the support! Let's race to the top!”

“Communicate The Storm” will be released on September, 9th.

Negura Bunget announce Transilvanian trilogy
2011-07-01
Negură Bunget is ready to announce the next major step that will shape the evolution of the band in the following years. "After the 'Vîrstele Pamîntului' album, which got some amazing response from audience and media, we fell it is our purpose to take everything to an even higher level," band leader Negru explains. "With this in mind, our next project is a musical and visual trilogy centered around the Transilvanian lands. It is both our personal and band destiny to undertake this exploration and presentation of the things that inspired us since the very beginning. Everybody can rest assured, we are not here to perpetuate the typical stereotypes, but rather unveil the unknown treasures the Transilvanian lands are so rich in. Be prepared to discover a whole new dimension of what these lands are all about.
Each part of the trilogy will evolve into fully developed musical and visual sides which we are developing together with our friend and visual artist Daniel Dorobantu and our friend and modern composer Dan Popescu."

The first part of the Transilvanian Trilogy, entitled "Tau" (engl. "your") will unveil the natural landscapes, by exploring nine unique natural places, with their mystique, atmosphere, legends and meanings. The second part will explore the human components, the traditions and practices, the connection with the nature, the way this relation shaped the spiritual horizon of the local inhabitants. The last part will focus on the spiritual elements, the values that defined and made these lands immortal.
These are the first completely new materials Negură Bunget will be releasing with Lupus Lounge/Prophecy Productions. Fans can follow the band's progress throughout this ample project on the brand new website as well as on the new Facebook page and the IMDb page.

Arven sign with Massacre Records

ARVEN are special and they're professionally educated musicians share one important attitude: a strong passion for melodic metal.

Dark Funeral announce new vocalist
2011-06-30
I must admit that it surely was not an easy task to find a worthy replacement for Emperor Magus Caligula, who has been doing an amazing job for Dark Funeral during the past 15 years. He has not only been "the vocalist" for the band, but also a very good friend of mine and he always will be!

Anyway, 10 months of intense search worldwide have finally given result. And I'm VERY proud to announce and welcome "NACHTGARM" to the horde.

I think, I can speak for everyone in the band and say that besides completely knocking us down with the strength of his vocals and wide register, what truly blew us away was his presence, energy and the amazing spirit he showed during the final audition. He just came into the rehearsal room, found and took his rightful spot. And then just set the whole place on hellfire!

It's really hard to explain "that" certain feeling one is looking for, but once you get it, you just know that you've found the right man for the job. And that is something we all got “deluxe”. No doubt about that! Mankind has no idea what is coming upon them. And I can't wait to bring this maniac on tour for the world to experience DARK FUNERAL in the most intense and hellish way ever!

During the 10 month we have been looking for a new vocalist and drummer, we have received over 1000 applications. The interest to join DARK FUNERAL has been way over expectation and quite overwhelming to say the least. And I'd like to take this opportunity to thank EVERYONE who applied for the jobs. One thing is for sure: There are a lot of unknown talents out there. And once they've found the right band to deliver their goods, I'm sure we all will hear from many of these guys in the future. Good luck! / Lord Ahriman

Chaq Mol Comments: When E.M.Caligula quit the band my first thought was "how the fuck will we be able to find a worthy replacement now?". In my eyes he was the best vocalist in the Black Metal scene. Anyhow, after we had listened through a couple of hundreds applicants, there were two guys that really stood out and sounded very promising indeed. The question now was, would they nail it on a live audition too, and would their personalities be of that kind we were looking for?! Well, after 10 month search we finally found the right man for the job! And all my previous doubts and concerns are now a memory forgotten. NACHTGARM, welcome to the horde!

Nachtgarm comments: To me, Dark Funeral is the epitome of Black Metal. To be a member of this institution now, is not only a big honor for me, but is also complementing my work as a lead singer as well as my action at the front of the stage throughout the years. Consequently, I am very glad that Dark Funeral put their unholy faith in me and my abilities.

As the successor of Emperor Magus Caligula I am quite aware of the high expectations being directed to my person. However, I can assure every one of you out there, that with every breath I take I will live up to these expectations. Hands down.

This is the arrival of Satan’s Empire. Now let us set this world aflame!

But that's not all, DARK FUNERAL are also proud to announce to board 70000 TONS OF METAL, The World's Biggest Floating Heavy Metal Festival that will sail Monday, January 23, 2012 aboard the Royal Caribbean “Majesty of the Seas” from Miami, FL to George Town, Cayman Islands and will not return you to the real world for four days until Friday, January 27, 2012.

Make no mistake, 70000TONS OF METAL is not your grandma's cruise. It's also not one of the cruises that share the ship with regular cruise guests. This is an all Heavy Metal cruise! Can you imagine that? A whole luxury cruise ship full of metalheads? You can enjoy tons of onboard live shows on several in and outdoor stages from early in the morning until late at night, open-mic nights, Heavy Metal karaoke with members of the bands, bars that never close, again: bars that never close..., a fun-and-sun-filled day on the beautiful island of Grand Cayman and since there is no backstage area you will have the opportunity to mingle side-by-side with the artists in this incredibly fan-friendly scenario that has no comparison. It's like everyone has a backstage pass!

So far 14 out of a total of 40 bands on board are known:

AMORPHIS, CORONER, DARK FUNERAL, ELUVEITIE, GRAVE DIGGER, IN EXTREMO, MOONSORROW, MY DYING BRIDE, NIGHTWISH, PESTILENCE, SAMAEL, STRATOVARIUS, THERION, TRISTANIA

Ticket prices start at US$666 plus US$289 taxes and fees per person and include all on-board entertainment, non-alcoholic and non-carbonated beverages, all meals at the dining rooms, most on-board restaurants and even 24 room service!

What are you waiting for? You might even need a vacation from this vacation when all is said and done! Check out http://www.70000tons.com for more information and book your cabin NOW!

Cadaveria album update
2011-06-30
Dear all,

it’s time to break the silence and answer all the fans who have asked about CADAVERIA developments and next release during the last months. Well, we can say the new album is almost done! We are finishing the mix and refining the last tracks and, during the next week, we will begin working on the mastering. The album will contain 11 new songs and is still untitled. The entire process took quite a long time, but it has been worth it. The sound is macabre and it exudes a primordial magic, the tracks fed on anguish and darkness; cries, tragic prophecies and obscure visions echo in the lyrics. We are absolutely excited about it, but we know there are already many things to do, before going on stage again. We are totally focused on this project and on the following steps: we will set the artwork very soon and we are going to shoot a video before the album release. Due to all these reasons it is now early to talk about an official release date for CADAVERIA 4th full length. However we can assume it could be in stores before the end of this year.

We will come back to you when we get any substantial news to share. In the meanwhile we have produced this short video that captures some moments of the composition and of the recording phases.

The Living Fields to release new album
2011-06-29
It's been a long silence but THE LIVING FIELDS is back and our new album, "RUNNING OUT OF DAYLIGHT" is out JULY 12th on CANDLELIGHT RECORDS!

It took us three years to finish, but the delays in '09 and '10 ended up helping us immensely in the long run. We've brought on a wonderful new guitarist - Samu Rahn - and have for the first time REAL STRINGS, courtesy of violinist/violist Chuck Bontrager and cellist Petar Kecenovici. "RUNNING OUT OF DAYLIGHT" features both our longest and shortest songs ever, and the entire album is wrapped in our best production and biggest mix to date, courtesy of Jay Walsh at Farview Recording.

Primordial and Xerath to Bloodstock
2011-06-29
With just over six weeks to go, BLOODSTOCK adds another two acts to it’s 2011 line up.

Celtic metalheads PRIMORDIAL join the Sunday line up on the RONNIE JAMES DIO stage, to show BOA why they are one of the most highly regarded bands to emerge from the emerald isle. Celebrating 20 years together, PRIMORDIAL have long been at the forefront of the international black metal scene, mixing black, celtic and folk metal together to create a sound that’s truly their own. Over the course of eight studio albums, PRIMORDIAL have consistently received high praise for their innovation and execution, and we look forward to a powerful and atmospheric show at CATTON HALL this August.

With the main stage line-up now complete, it's over to the SOPHIE stage for the next addition, which comes in the form of homegrown headbangers XERATH. XERATH represent the cutting edge of British heavy metal. Combining monumental orchestral arrangements with bone shattering riffs on an epic scale, this outfit delivers the most forward thinking brand of progressive metal music. With polyrhythmic riffs and beats mixed with orchestral and symphonic elements, XERATH bring to mind the likes of Strapping Young Lad, Meshuggah, Dimmu Borgir and Opeth, all the while remaining innovative and eclectic, and will be ones to watch at BLOODSTOCK for sure.

Aborym sign with Agonia Records
2011-06-28
Legendary italian industrial-post-black metallers ABORYM have inked a worlwide deal with Agonia Records.

The first statements of the singer/bass player Fabban: I know this label very well. We decided to sing up with Agonia Rec exactly because we need to be followed and supported in a more careful and precise way, something that is sometimes quite hard to have if you're part of a major label with hundreds of other bands. There's a crisis in the air, especially in the music industry, reason why we're betting everything on quality. What we will release in 2012 will be a very particular album and it will be required a great commitment from our label, a great commitment, not only from the economic point of view. We chose Agonia because is able to give us everything we ask for in order to achieve something very very important, something that people don't really expect. This is the biggest deal of the entire Aborym's career. We have a very high budget, we have confidence and a massive deployment of energies and resources from Agonia's side. Through these premises we should and we must do only great things.

The sixth Aborym's album will be released in 2012 and it will celebrate the 20th anniversary of activity of the italian combo.

We'll celebrate 20 years of Aborym through a series of surprises for our fans - adds founding member/singer Fabban - The album we're working on will be something extremely astonishing, something that nobody can even remotely imagine. Aborym has always been like that, but this time we'll walk beyond the lines. Our new album will be also a reward to all our fans: our own way to say thank you for 20 years of support and passion for our music.

It's great to be working again with Agonia Records - adds guitarist Hell.IO.Kabbalus - and we're already sticking down with Fabban some new material for the next album. If you think Psychogrotesque was crazy, this next one is going to fuck your synapses from behind.

In July 2011 the new t-shirt celebrating the 20th year of the band, will be available and one of the song from the next album will be used to record the first official video clip of Aborym.

Vendetta sign with Massacre Records
2011-06-28
The Bavarian thrash metal band VENDETTA was born in the 80's. After two demos, "System Of Death" (1985) and "Suicidal Lunacy" (1987), VENDETTA released their debut album "Go And Live... Stay And Die" in 1987. The songs on the album were about social problems like drugs, corruption and violence as well as immigration, war and politics.

Within the next year, the band was on the road again. They've also released their second album, "Brain Damage", which was produced by Harris Johns. The songs became more complex and melodic.

VENDETTA also played a lot of gigs and supported bands like Paradox, Tankard, Exumer and Helstar.

In 1990 VENDETTA disbanded, but reunited 8 years later.

In 2003 they recorded their 4-track demo "Dead People Are Cool".

VENDETTA have now signed a record deal with Massacre Records.

Their new album, which is more aggressive and progressive than the band's previous releases, will be mastered by Dan Swanö at the Unisound studio and is scheduled to be released in winter 2011!

Welcome to the Massacre Records family, VENDETTA!

White Arms of Athena sign with Prosthetic
2011-06-28
Technical/progressive metal band, WHITE ARMS OF ATHENA, have signed to PROSTHETIC RECORDS. The Mesquite, TX based act's debut full length, "Astrodrama," which was produced by Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, The Human Abstract), will be released on August 16th, 2011. The band previously released three EPs, which can be downloaded for free on their MYSPACE. DECIBEL MAGAZINE commented on the band: "These guys have the polished chops of lifelong shredders and a compositional sensibility that many older progressive metal musicians would gladly sell their ponytails to attain."

The band's music expands on the already vast array of attributes that come with a progressive metal band. With sounds ranging from cluttered grind riffs paying tasteful respects to Between the Buried and Me, solid heavy riffs to bang head to, along with peacefully structured ambient passages that soothe you just in time for another full-on attack of the senses, this band does it all with precision and originality.

Their lyricism and overall vibe from the instruments give their tunes a certain futuristic, other-worldly touch that only heavy-hitters in progressive metal, such as CYNIC can pull off. This is a major sign of a band that knows their music inside and out, and makes the wait on "Astrodrama" seem like a very promising one.

Catch the band on tour:
7/9 Dallas, TX - The Door
7/14 Fayetteville, AR - The Swad
7/15 Topeka, KS - Boobie Trap
7/18 South Lake Tahoe, CA - Skatehouse Skatepark

Eternal Tears of Sorrow studio update
2011-06-28
ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW's Jarmo Puolakanaho has recently released the following blog entry:

"As we already told on our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/etosofficial), we have finished our first recording session at Tico-Tico Studios.
We are recording this album in two main sessions + some extra sessions throughout this year. This way has proven to be the best for us and our timetables and we’ve been using the same “take it slowly, make it good” method ever since our comeback in 2005.

What we did during the past weeks was recording the basic tracks for six songs. Now, it’s time for a short summer holiday after which we’re going to do the vocals and the keyboard tracks, and, of course, to write more new songs for the second main recording session, which is going to take place at the end of this year.

Trying to verbally describe the new songs is like trying to draw how they sound like. And even if we somehow managed to describe how the new songs sound like, they only represent one half of the forthcoming album.

Anyway, it has been announced that we’re going to play our second (and last) gig in 2011 at http://www.jyrkkafestival.com/ in Pudasjärvi. Which is nice, as this band was formed in the very same town and as a matter of fact, we played our very first gig on the same stage fourteen years ago. And now, after eleven years, we’re coming back to our original home town. Nice."
