MySpace Music announce president
2008-11-26
Confirming several weeks of rumors, MySpace has revealed that former Interscope and MTV digital music executive Courtney Holt will take the helm of the newly formed MySpace Music venture early next year.

Holt most recently was executive VP of digital music for MTV networks.

Previously, he served as senior VP of new media, creative and strategic marketing at Interscope/Geffen/A&M. He will assume his new role at MySpace on Jan. 5, relocating from New York to Los Angeles and reporting to MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe.

Holt's appointment as president of MySpace Music ends months of search and speculation. MySpace first announced the formation of the music service back in April, and at that time said it would begin searching for an executive to lead the group. As August rolled around, and the final touches were being added to the site, the lack of a leader became a glaring distraction.

Sources considered for the role cited the rather unique organizational structure of MySpace Music as a sticking point. The major record labels demanded an equity stake in any music service that MySpace launched in return for licensing their songs, MySpace Music was created as a separate joint venture from the broader MySpace service. Participating labels share in the overall revenues made from the service, and all have seats on the board.

Ultimately, MySpace Music went live in September without filling the position.

Candidates said they were uneasy helming a company that would have so many masters, likening the role to more of a general manager than that of a true president or CEO. The vacuum created a rumor mill filled with the kind of wild speculation typically seen only in the weeks before a new iPod announcement.

The addition of Holt puts these rumors to rest and serves as the last piece of the MySpace Music puzzle. Holt's responsibilities include overseeing the growth and development of the company's business, its brand and its global operations.

"MySpace Music cultivates relationships between artists and fans by enabling and reinforcing music discovery both online and offline and providing the tools to customize and personalize their music experience," Holt said in a statement.

"The new company will explore different and evolutionary revenue streams that provide real opportunities for artists and the industry as a whole. I can't wait to help build out those opportunities even further."

Bloodbound sign with Blistering Records
2008-11-26
BLOODBOUND, the Swedish melodic, heavy metal band featuring members from STREET TALK, TAD MOROSE, MORGANA LEFAYand PYRAMAZE, have signed a worldwide deal with BLISTERING RECORDS.

The band's third album “Tabula Rasa” will be released by BLISTERING RECORDS in early 2009.

The band has kept busy since their inception in 2004, having released two previous albums Nosferatu (2006) and Book Of The Dead (2007), and played numerous shows across Europe with the likes of HammerFall, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity, Evergrey and Pretty Maids.

In regards to the band name, the term 'bloodbound' originated during the dark ages referring to an oath between men wherein they would cut their own hands and clasp thereby mixing their blood. Each man then carries the other's blood, linking the two, as blood brothers. A bloodbound can never be broken and will follow you into the afterlife and beyond.

De Mysteriis Dom Attila
2008-11-26
Here's something black metal fans have been yearning for for ages...

When the MAYHEM's cult milestone "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" was released in 1994, its mastermind Euronymous was not able to witness this album become the single most important release of the Norwegian Black Metal scene, as he had been killed by Varg Vikernes (BURZUM) soon before. Vikernes had played bass on the record but for obvious reasons his role was diminished by reducing the level of bass in the final mix.

An important aspect of the album's outstanding significance is the enigmatic and occult vocal performance of Attila Csihar. However, all that the Hungarian ever received for his essential contribution to "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" was a personally made copy of its rough mix, featuring the original bass sound as it was intended to be.

Now Attila shares his treasure with true MAYHEM fans by releasing the demo version in this special, 3000 copy limited A5 digipack entitled "Life Eternal", including his very own liner notes and previously unseen pictures.

Razor of Occam sign with Metal Blade Records
2008-11-25
Metal Blade Records is happy to announce the signing of RAZOR OF OCCAM for a multiple Worldwide record deal!

RAZOR OF OCCAM is a metal band in the Black/Thrash genre based in London, UK including half of the Destroyer 666 line-up and members of Adorior. Originally spawned from the South Australian desert in the late nineties, the music of RAZOR OF OCCAM still emulates the harshness of its birthplace. Never content to follow the mainstream, the lyrics eschew the mystical nonsense typical of the genre and instead highlight the harsh reality of the godless, uncaring and awe-inspiring universe we inhabit.

The band has two releases to date. ‘Diabologue’ (Damnation Records) and ‘Pillars of Creation’ (Circle of Tyrants). They have recently finished the recordings for their third release, a full-length album titled 'Homage To Martyrs' to be released via Metal Blade Records in the spring of 2009!

RAZOR OF OCCAM has predominately been a self-reliant act, securing gigs, festivals and tours in the UK, Europe and their homeland. They have played along side renowned acts such as Asphyx, Primordial and Dismember, including a European tour with Gospel of the Horns.

Comments the band on the deal: "The Metal Blade back catalogue speaks for itself. We can only hope to be deemed worthy of sitting alongside such illustrious names."

More details, the tracklisting, and a brandnew MP3 from 'Homage To Martyrs' will be announced and uploaded shortly!

Hatesphere finish new album
2008-11-24
Danish metallers Hatesphere have issued the following statement:

After months of negotiating we are finally able to announce, that our future home is now with Austria's powerhouse label, Napalm Records.
This year has been really hectic for us - in a good way - and the great changes we've been going through made us push each other to perform at our very best. Sure there's been times where a sense of uncertainty has been hanging closely over our heads, but when it all came down we worked hard at what we do best and kept focus on the music.
However, with that being said we still needed a new record label and in the end Napalm won us over with their integrity, hard work and a welcoming honest approach.

After an intense 9 days in the studio with illustrious Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Moonspell, Dark Tranquillity, Gorefest) We ended up recording 10 songs for what will be a head on collision with your speakers, early next year. More info on song titles, cover artwork, release dates and other surprises is to be revealed soon.

Our song "Let them Hate" off of our latest album "Serpent Smiles And Killer Eyes" is featured in the new Danish motion picture "Lille soldat" in theatres now.

Dark Funeral settle with former label
2008-11-24
Seven years of pure bullshit has finally come to an end…..un-fucken- believable!!!

Without going into any details, (which I'm not allowed to either), what’s most important here and now is that we finally have obtained the rights to our back catalogue, including the publishing rights. That includes; “The Secrets Of The Black Arts”, “Vobiscum Satanas”, “Teach Children To…” and “Diabolis Interium”.

And from now on, NO one but Caligula and I own the rights to above mentioned albums. One may believe I/we would be totally thrilled about this, be running around in pentagrams, throwing bibles in a fire and whatnot, but I honestly feel pretty empty. Guess it’ll take a while to let it all sunk in to realize that this battle finally is over, after seven f*ing years! I’m sure I’ll get it all eventually…and celebrate it one way or another. But right now I feel nothing.

Anyway, somehow I feel that this is already old news, an old chapter in our dark saga. And I won’t spend any more of my valuable time to ever put “their” name in my mouth again. So let us just put this behind us immediately. Let us now focus on gathering some new energy, look at the future - a future without label hassles and such utterly bullshit. It’s time to set full course to complete the new album, booking new tours among many other grand things, which I know many of you are waiting for. Basically, let´s get busy again, and foremost enjoy being busy again!

PS. Please respect the fact that we won’t answer any questions regarding this, already old and forgotten news. Thanx!

Lion's Share album out in March
2008-11-20
Blistering Records is pleased to announce that Swedish melodic heavy metal masters LION'S SHARE are putting the final touches on “Dark Hours”, the followup to 2007's “Emotional Coma”, for release in March 2009.

The band states, “The new songs are simply awesome and everybody that have heard it, think it’s our best album to date. The red thread lyric wise on this album is that all songs are about things that happened in the late sixties; a decade known for many good things. However, we're not describing the happy times of the 60's: We give you the Dark Hours. Musically it’s more straight forward and faster than ever. The songs are filled with energy and great hooks.”

“Dark Hours” will be mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Symphony X, Paradise Lost, Amon Amarth), and features guest slots from Mike Romeo (Symphony X) guest solo on "Behind The Curtain", Conny Pettersson (from Earache Records death metal act ANATA) - drums, Richard Evensand (Chimaira, Soilwork).

Tenative tracklisting is:

Judas Must Die
Phantom Rider
Demon In Your Mind
Heavy Cross To Bear
The Bottomless Pit
Full Metal Jacket
The Presidio 27
Barker Ranch

Space Scam
Behind The Curtain
King Of All The Kings (bonus track - included on the limited edition digipak and Japanese version)

God Forbid release date set
2008-11-20
The apocalyptic and grandiose musical landscape of the new GOD FORBID album proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that this group have paved a new path out from the stagnant metalcore scene and the future looks to be a very bright one. The stunning new effort, “Earthsblood”, blends together the perfect amount of brutality, melodies and utter catchiness against a wall of sonic excess and pummeling groove-laden riffs.

Frontman Byron Davis steps up his game to new heights and delivers his most aggressive and angst-ridden performance yet, while the dynamic guitar tandem composed of Dallas and Doc Coyle shred with precision and tenacity to deliver captivating harmonies that scream to the heavens. The backbone of the band, bassist John Outcalt and drummer Corey Piece, lock in a rhythm section that beats the listener into submission giving room for the remaining members to show off their remarkable musical prowess.

“Earthsblood” is set for a Feb. 16th throughout Europe and Feb. 24th North American release. The group have posted a new audio sampler composed of sections of a few new tracks. Click on the link below now to check it out. Stay tuned to http://www.myspace.com/godforbid over the coming weeks for news updates and for the grand unveiling of the album’s striking cover art.

Doc Coyle (guitars, vocals) further states: “Even though it’s three months until the release date, the GOD FORBID camp thought it would be a great idea to give a little sneak peak of the actual music from “Earthsblood” to whet your appetites. This sampler is meant to give some insight into the diverse nature and depth of the album. We hope this makes all the fans as excited as we are for the record!”

“Earthsblood” was produced by Eric Rachel (Atreyu) with Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory, Threat Signal) handling all vocal tracking. This is an entirely new GOD FORBID that have matured beyond their years and are now more focused than ever before. The depth and diversity showcased on this new album is easily going to position them as of one the most innovative bands within the genre.

Evile forced to pull out of touring
2008-11-20
OL DRAKE, lead guitarist of UK thrashers EVILE fractured his jaw last night after the band's show in Rotterdam, Netherlands supporting SATYRICON.

EVILE frontman MATT DRAKE comments:

"Ol collapsed last night and fractured his jaw and split his chin on the ground. Luckily his beard absorbed some of the blow. He's been in hospital and had X-rays and been stitched up, but he's unable to play - he can't really move - he's a mess. Ol doesn't drink, it seems to be some medical problem that's being investigated. They did an ECG and we're awaiting results. Unfortunately we're having to pull out of the tour to get home to the UK where Ol can recuperate and have some follow-up tests.

"We apologise to all our fans and to anyone planning to see us at the shows. As you can imagine we're devastated we can't play, but Ol's health comes first and that's currently our priority. We will update our fans through the MySpace with news when we're back home. We won't be on any of the Satyricon tour from today."

EVILE plan to resume touring duties in 2009. Keep up-to-date with news on OL DRAKE's condition by checking for updates on the band's MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/evileuk

Willie Basse team up with metal legends
2008-11-20
'80's Metal Pioneer, Willie Basse has his first headlining performance
on Friday December 5th, 2008 in Farmington, New Mexico at GATORS.

This KRWN Radio sponsored event, where Willie's single, "(Love So) Far Away" is in heavy rotation) will be the debut live performance of Basse’s touring line-up featuring former Black Sabbath members GEOFF NICHOLLS (Keyboards) and BOBBY RONDINELLI (Drums), along with guitarist MITCH PERRY (M.S.G./ Tals). The band will be touring throughout 2009 in support of Willie Basse’s debut album “The Money Grind”.

"We are excited about playing live with this powerful lineup and looking forward to seeing all our old fans and making a host of new ones," commented Basse about his band's upcoming live debut.

"There will be a few surprises in the set. This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see monster players up close in an intimate concert with ever-lasting memories," added keyboardist Geoff Nicholls.

Basse is best known for his role as bassist/front man for the LA based legendary metalheads, Black Sheep, who were staples of Sunset Strip during the metal explosion of the ‘80s. Basse has now re-grouped and released a solo album “The Money Grind” on his own label New Empire Media. The album is an unapologetic approach to metal and emphasizes strong song writing skills that have been put on the back burner by most modern musicians.

Willie Basse recently announced he will be recording his sophomore album in January 2009 with legendary producer Andy Johns (Led Zeppelin, Van Halen). The effort is slated for summer 2009 release through Basse’s own label New Empire Media, which is currently scheduling release dates for a reissue Black Sheep's classic "Sacrifice" EP, Basse’s new reality TV series "Rockstar Reality" on DVD and a "Rock For Recovery" DVD which features concert footage of Black Sheep with Motorhead next year.

Daylight Dies join Soilwork tour
2008-11-20
Daylight Dies will join Soilwork and Darkane for the start of their upcoming US tour beginning January 30 in Rochester, New York. Continuing to support their latest record, Lost to the Living, Daylight Dies were selected to replace Warbringer who are unable to start the tour due to extended recording obligations. "We are all ecstatic about the opportunity to tour with three bands we are huge fans of," says bassist Egan O’Rourke. "We have been cranking Soilwork in the van since our first tour so it will be a true honor to get to share stages with them."

Released June 24, Lost to the Living is the North Carolina-based band's second album for Candlelight Records. Mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia) and featuring artwork from Travis Smith (Amon Amarth, Paradise Lost), the album features nine new songs. "We were extremely pleased to see the glowing response to Lost to the Living from the media," notes drummer Jesse Haff. "It's especially rewarding to see the continued love from fans towards this album."

Formed in 1996, Daylight Dies released their debut, No Reply (Relapse) in 2002. Terrorizer Magazine called the album "memorable and engaging." Outburn Magazine proclaimed it "pristine doom metal," while Digital Metal found it to be "a combination of dark melody and deathly aggression." The quintet would tour Europe with Katatonia and perform with Lacuna Coil throughout the US and Canada before writing processes would begin on new material. Their second album, the impressive Dismantling Devotion, was released in March of 2006. Revolver Magazine called it "an epic slab of gloom metal that's equal parts apocalyptic rage and suicidal sorrow." Terrorizer Magazine again applauded the band noting the album as "an epic journey as thoughtful and compellingly musical as it is bleak and vengeful... essential." Another US tour, this time with Moonspell and friends Katatonia, completed 2006 on an all-time high. Outside of a few local performances the five-piece spent much of 2007 crafting the material that finds itself on Lost for the Living. The band toured with Candlemass just prior to the release of Lost for the Living.

Daylight Dies, featuring vocalist Nathan Ellis, guitarist Barre Gambling, guitarist Charley Shackelford, with O’Rourke and Haff, have consistently impressed fans and critics alike. Not only popular with mainstream print outlets worldwide (Lost to the Living again receiving high praise from the most important metal publications around the globe), the band have found an active online support network. Popular metal portal Metalsucks.net says, "with Lost to the Living we get what could very well become the band’s masterwork." Hardcore Sounds says, "Daylight Dies has created a solid piece of metal that is unbelievably solid from start to finish." The band have active fan pages via MySpace, Facebook, are growing in popularity via LastFM.com and many more.
