Gotthard confirm new singer
2011-11-25
GOTTHARD has a new singer. The successor to Steve Lee, who was killed in a tragic accident last year, is Nic Maeder and he was born in Switzerland. So the most successful Swiss rock band stays “Homegrown” and will now continue with a fellow countryman.

The new recruit to the GOTTHARD family was born in 1971 in Lausanne and is one of the many singers who applied to become a member of the band. Nic Maeder is a real stroke of luck for GOTTHARD.

“Nic not only has a great voice and is a fantastic musician, but we also have a great person in our midst” says Leo Leoni.

So a turbulent and moving time is coming to an end for GOTTHARD. During the months after the decision to carry on was taken, the rockers received more than 400 applications from all over the world, listen to them and invited the likely candidates to try out. GOTTHARD took a lot of time to find the best possible choice.

This was a choice that was far from easy for the four musicians Leo Leoni (guitar), Marc Lynn (bass), Freddy Scherer (guitar) and Hena Habegger (drums). It was clear that the successor to Steve Lee would have to bring a lot of potential, not only as a singer but also as a human being. Seldom in the history of music has the search for a singer produced so many talented candidates as in the case of GOTTHARD. Among the international applicants were several famous names as well as new and unknown voices.

“The individuality which each candidate presented made the decision far from easy. It has been a long and difficult road up to this point”, said Hena Habegger.

The final decision for Nic Maeder was unanimous.

Freddy Scherer said: “We noticed straight away that the chemistry, both musically and personally, was right. For us he is the new member of the family.”

GOTTHARD has in Nic Maeder an addition to the international character which their music has had since the beginning. At the age of two, Nic moved with his family to Melbourne, Australia and grew up as a cosmopolitan between Switzerland and “Down Under”and has a particular connection to the language of Rock and Roll.

“Music has been my companion all my life and always was an important part of it. It is a great feeling to be able to share in the birth of a song and to see how it keeps growing. I can experience that with GOTTHARD and it makes me happy. I am making music with friends,” says Nic Maeder.

Before he joined GOTTHARD, Nic played in several projects and had success with the band MAEDER.

Of course you can write a lot about a new singer, but in the end there is nothing better than seeing and hearing him sing. So GOTTHARD has decided to produce a song with video, which can be downloaded free of charge by all the people who didn’t lose their belief in GOTTHARD and is dedicated to those who have supported the band during the past months.

From today this will be the first GOTTHARD song – “REMEMBER IT’S ME’ with Nic Maeder – published on http://www.gotthard.com - have fun!

“We were privileged to read many personal and moving mails and could also get to know many singers with great voices,” said Marc Lynn. “With Nic, we have taken the right decision for GOTTHARD. A lot of courage is needed to step into the footsteps of such a great singer. Nic has earned our respect.”

The band is working with renewed energy and enthusiasm in the studio at the moment on songs for a new album, which will be released in the spring of 2012.

Finally, the band would like to thank all those who applied and wishes them lots of luck and success in the future!

Dokken to enter studio
2011-11-25
Frontiers Records is excited to announce the signing of DOKKEN for the worldwide release of the band’s forthcoming studio album in the spring of 2012.

The cooperation between Frontiers and DOKKEN started with the release of the band’s CD « Lightning Strikes Again » in 2007. The album marked a return to DOKKEN’s signature style with melodic hooklines and blazing guitar riffs that epitomized the band’s sound on such records as « Tooth & Nail », « Under Lock & Key », « Back for the Attack » and « Dysfunctional ».

« So far we have written 10 songs in only 8 weeks » says singer Don Dokken. « Usually we spend a year or more on our music. I can't explain why this time it came so fast, it just happened. So far the music is very uptempo and heavy, of course we know our fans like the classic DOKKEN sound and this is where our new music is headed. It’s been a band of brothers doing what we love : 'music' ».

DOKKEN plans to finish their new recording by the end of February and go out on the road in june. « In a perfect world we would like to release the new album before the summer and then play the festivals in Europe. Then hopefully we can jump on a package tour in the US, » tells Don Dokken. « We want to give everyone a great CD that will keep all music fans Rokkin’ during these troubled times !»

DOKKEN is now formed by Don Dokken on lead vocals, Jon Levin on guitar, Sean McNabb on bass and Mick Brown on drums.

Formed in 1978, Dokken is one of the bands that defined the American Hard Rock trademark sound of the 80’s. They have been nominated for a Grammy Award in 1989 and sold more than 10 million albums worldwide. Their next album will be their 11th original studio release.

Nekromantheon sign with Indie Recordings
2011-11-18
Indie Recordings is proud to announce the signing of NEKROMANTHEON. The label will release the band's new album, "Rise, Vulcan Spectre," on January 13th 2012 in Europe and January 17th in North America.

NEKROMANTHEON has one mission: To play fast, evil and dirty thrash metal in the way of the old gods. Influenced by the classics of Slayer, Sadus, Kreator, Dark Angel and Sepultura, they`ve unleashed their attack on modern metal since their inception in 2005. Originally hailing from Kolbotn, the hometown of the mighty Darkthrone, and featuring two members from Obliteration in their ranks, Nekromantheon are no strangers in the metal scene, having played festivals such as Maryland Death Fest and the highly prestigious, yet extremely underground, Live Evil Festival in London.

Having previously released one album and a EP, this powerful trio has regressed far back into the glorious days of real metal, breaking the chains to all that is plastic. Their second and forthcoming full-length is even faster, filthier, and more evil than ever! Nekromantheon have truly summoned the ancient Greek gods of havoc, and will let nothing stand in the way of this unholy blood offering. Worship the beast!

As I Lay Dying chart positions
2011-11-18
AS I LAY DYING's latest release, the Decas EP, is a collection of new tracks, covers, remixes and more, which reached #2 on the iTunes Rock chart and landed at #61 on Billboard's Top 200 in its debut week. iTunes also offered a free track ("Paralyzed"), which was downloaded by a staggering 125,000 people in one week.

Meant to tide fans over until the release of the band's hotly anticipated new studio LP (due for release next year), the Decas EP marks AS I LAY DYING's decade of making music and features 3 new songs, 3 cover songs, remixes, and more.

As vocalist Tim Lambesis explains, "We wanted to at least do an EP when the idea first came up. We were touring at the time and knew we wouldn't have time to put together an entire album of new material. Decas literally means ten, and to me it is a collection of songs to celebrate our ten-year anniversary as a band. We were able to round up three new songs that we felt represented the different sides to our band. There's a song you'd generally expect from us, one on the heavier side, and then one of the most melodic songs we've ever done. We took a similar approach on the cover songs. We wanted one song that represented a thrashier, heavier influence. Interestingly enough we were asked to do a Slayer cover song with an anti-war theme for a video game months earlier, so that worked out perfectly. Next, we represented the melodic guitar influence with Judas Priest who is responsible for starting much of that within metal. Lastly, I came up with the idea to do a simple, raw, energetic song that was outside of our genre but still influential in some of our musical upbringing."

About: Dubai may be known as a city rich in history, a business hub and the home of the tallest structure in the world, but it’s also the birthplace of the first death metal band to come out of the Middle East.

Dubai is where, in the late 1990s, guitarist Alex Zubair and drummer Alan Madhavan came together to form Nephelium, guided by the sole vision of a band comprised of equal parts complexity and brutality.

Staying true to the roots of death metal, Nephelium was quick to forge ahead with experimentation, pulling in influences from metal and other genres.

With the hope of spreading Nephelium’s insidious gospel across the world, Zubair and Madhavan settled in Toronto, Canada where they completed the band’s lineup and immediately began playing shows and tearing up local stages, which quickly led to opening slots for metal heavyweights Skinless and Deicide.

Following a tumultuous journey spanning ten years, two continents and countless lineup changes, Nephelium is ready to once again give the death metal world a good shaking with the release of their debut album, Coils of Entropy.

The embodiment of Nephelium’s journey to striking the perfect balance between technical death metal, old school metal and Arabian melodies, Coils of Entropy is a six-track masterpiece set to breathe new life into today’s dwindling death metal landscape.

Goatwhore to support Lock Up
2011-11-17
Lock Up, the UK death metal group featuring genre veterans, Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates, Disfear), Shane Embury (Napalm Death, Venomous Concept), Nicolas Barker (ex-Cradle Of Filth, ex-Dimmu Borgir) and Anton Reisenegger (Criminal, Pentagram), has announced its first ever North American tour, a headlining run with Goatwhore and Strong Intention, set to kick off in February.

Goatwhore vocalist Ben Falgoust adds, "We know it is only a hand full of shows with Lock Up, but it will be a great start into the release of our next record. Not only are the Lock Up and Strong Intention guys good friends, they will both add to the complete assault of this aggressive line up. We have spoken to Nick and Shane of Lock Up numerous times about doing some tours together in the past. We are quite enthusiastic about hitting the road with them even if it is such a short run. This will not only be an insane attack of musical chaos but numerous nights of complete lawless behavior. Prepare yourselves for the assault!"

Said Lock Up drummer, Nick Barker, "After many attempts in the past, sadly to no avail, Lock Up finally gets to make it stateside for a string of shows with our good friends from Louisiana, Goatwhore. For us in Lock Up, to play with Goatwhore in the US is like a dream tour, as they are one of our favorite bands - and being good friends with them too only makes this package even more special to us. Be prepared North America 'cause we're coming over to blast your minds into deathgrind oblivion!"

Lock Up is touring in support of its third studio album, Necropolis Transparent, which hit stores in July on Nuclear Blast Records. Goatwhore will be touring in support of their new album, details for which are forthcoming.

Battle Beast sign with Nuclear Blast
2011-11-17
Finland – a mine of talented newcomer bands since the year one. With BATTLE BEAST from Helsinki, Nuclear Blast are happy to welcome one of the most promising combos of this flourishing scene aboard!

Founded in 2008, the band already attended the W:O:A Metal Battle in their home country two years later and won the national contest, which enabled them to perform at the Wacken Open Air in Germany and represent Finland in the international Metal Battle finals. Battling 26 other bands from all around the world, BATTLE BEAST emerged victorious. Under these circumstances a record deal with the world’s biggest independent heavy metal label seems to be the only logical consequence – Andy Siry, head of A&R at Nuclear Blast, agrees:

”Young, dynamic but still deeply rooted in traditional heavy metal – BATTLE BEAST breathe new life into the scene and rekindle the sound of the 80s with a fulgent livery. The well-deserved victory at the W:O:A Metal Battle 2010 was the first important step to which we want to live up by supporting these up-and-coming talents energetically. We’re looking forward to the cooperation!“

The band also expresses their joy. Guitarist Anton comments:
"We feel honoured that Nuclear Blast show their interest in BATTLE BEAST by releasing "Steel". Many thanks to our partners, closest people and most of all to our fans who believed in us and gave us their support. The journey continues!"

Primal Fear to release new album
2011-11-16
After a sensational tour through South America in spring 2011, more dates in Europe plus an outstanding appearance on the 2011 edition of the Wacken Open Air, the band was fired up to enter the recording studio to start tracking their ninth studio album. The target was crystal clear - producer & bassist Mat Sinner: “After touring for two years without breaks, the guys realized the fan favourites very well and we wrote an untamed, powerful and crushing album together”.

“Unbreakable” combines the skills of the strongest Primal Fear line-up ever, with a well-balanced “back to the roots” vibe and an ambitious learning process during their longest tour so far. Classic and ultra-fresh Primal Fear riff-rockers like “Strike”, “Give Em Hell” or the high speed track “And There Was Silence” will hit the bulls-eye, like the rhythm paced metal anthem, first single and new video clip “Bad Guys Wear Black”. Less experiments, more rock! But there will be a nine-minute epic journey with a lot prog approach named “Where Angels Die”, a classic wonderful ballad “Born Again” and the melodic power bomb “Metal Nation”. Singer Ralf Scheepers adds: “the plan was to record an album for the fans with rough metal riffs, screaming vocals and good melodies ...... and finally it became a monster – a tough 'bang-your-head' metal album called “Unbreakable”.

Magnus Karlsson and Alex Beyrodt are worldwide respected guitarists – together they are unbeatable! Ralf Scheepers vocal performance shines bright on a new level on all new songs. And what can go wrong if you’re backed by one of the best rhythm sections in metal with Randy Black and Mat Sinner? Plus backing vocals by the “Fantastic Four”: Ralf Scheepers, Mat Sinner, Erik Martensson and Oliver Hartmann. You can hear the result on Primal Fears new statement called “Unbreakable”!

“Unbreakable” was produced by Mat Sinner, engineered and mixed by Achim Koehler & the House Of Music studios and some more studios in Germany & Sweden between summer and autumn 2011 and will include the following tracks: Unbreakable (Part1); Strike; Give 'Em Hell; Bad Guys Wear Black; And There Was Silence; Metal Nation; Where Angels Die; Unbreakable (Part 2); Marching Again; Born Again; Blaze Of Glory; Conviction; Night Of The Jumps (Bonus Track)*; Bad Guys Wear Black (Video)*

“Unbreakable” will be anticipated by the digital only release of the single “Bad Guys Wear Black” which will be available for download and streaming on December 5th 2011. The single will also include “Metal Nation” in an exclusive single mix.
