In an announcement given to a "bunch of penguins", from the bowels of their Antarctic fortress, the world's sickest band, the mighty GWAR, has announced the continuation of their 25th Anniversary with a public event of colossal proportion - The Crack-a-Thon!

"We are trying to raise money for the kids…not just muscular dystrophy, but retards as well, all kinds of fucked-up freaks," said Oderus.

The event will kickoff on April 10th, 2010 at the notorious MF Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. The weeklong debauchery will be broadcast live on the World Wide Web, and anybody with internet access will be able to view the gala event free of charge. Viewers will be able to pledge funds via a website, (to be announced later - check http://www.MFgallery.net for details.) as powerful computers illegally drain your bank account. Rumors that any money raised will actually be used to pay off Oderus' crack debt were immediately confirmed.

Said Sleazy P. Martini, as he was reached for comment at his Jersey City headquarters, "Oderus is completely wasted and really has no concept of money, instead he prizes things like little pieces of rope or dead dogsand dead dogs don't pay the bills!"

After the kickoff party on April 10th, there will be a week of intense preparation, as the MF Gallery is transformed into Slave Pit TV central, and Oderus is set loose on the streets of NYC! His atrocities will be carefully documented and broadcast during the Crack-a-Thon, which will commence on Friday April 16th, 2010. Live web cams will broadcast all the action from the gallery as slaves desperately prepare for the most stupendous entertainment event since Bud Dywers very public suicide!

The Crack-a-Thon will begin on Friday April 16th and will go as long as it takes to pay off Oderus' bill, or he gets bored and leaves, whatever comes first. The public is invited to be our studio audience, and should contact MF Gallery for information on how to reserve a seat in the Crack-a-Thon audience.

Oderus will be joined by band mate Balsac, the Jaws of Death, who will serve as band leader and comic foil.

"I really don't know why I demean myself by associating with him," said the metal-faced horror, "but it will be fun watching him fail."

The rumored list of guests scheduled to appear include Tiger Woods, God, and Carmen Electra's torso, though this was subject to change. Confirmed is the shadowy underground performance troupe, the F-Minus Art Players, led by the sewer-dwelling playwright and art-fag Anton Reemcobb, who are slated to perform some of their shockingly neo-dada-esque bullshit theatre. Also confirmed are cybernetic musical guests DETHRACE, among others.

Finntroll reveal chart positions

While Finnish folk black metal masters FINNTROLL are currently headlining the Paganfest tour 2010, the band’s brand-new album “Nifelvind” has conquered the charts in several European countries. Not only did FINNTROLL score the highest chart result in their entire history in Finland by reaching position #8, but also entered the German album charts on #31 (the band’s previous album charted on #91) as well as the charts in Switzerland (#41) and Austria (#61), congratulations!

Death Angel enter studio

Hot on the heels of a busy and productive 2009, Bay Area thrash legends DEATH ANGEL have been holed up in their Oakland, California studio for the past few months writing songs for their next Nuclear Blast release, tentatively scheduled to drop in September.

The band heads into Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, Florida in March, with production genius Jason Suecof on the board, to start tracking the new record. Suecof is on the cutting edge of the current metal world having produced albums for the likes of TRIVIUM, AUGUST BURNS RED, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, ALL THAT REMAINS, WHITE CHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER and many more.

Rob Cavestany, lead guitarist of DEATH ANGEL had this to say about plans for the new album: "Jason is one of my favorite producers churning out some of the sickest slabs of metal out there today. I am so stoked to have the chance to co-produce our next record with him. It's gonna be vicious! The band is on fire right now in the thick of pre-production and the new songs are crushing! We can't wait to start tracking!"

When asked about the hiring of Suecof, DEATH ANGEL vocalist, Mark Osegueda, added:

"We are so excited about the opportunity to work with Jason on the upcoming album. The new material is the most aggressive and technical music we have written in years. So, we needed a producer that was capable of unleashing the tones that match and compliment the over-all vibe of the songs.

With Jason’s experience in producing some of the most brutal contemporary metal artists and albums of today I know we made the right choice! I think the collaboration between the two of us will prove to be venomous and infectious! It will be DEATH ANGEL's first album ever recorded outside of our home state of California. Limited Access Records is proud to announce the signing of cologne rockers 4BACKWOODS.

Already on April 16th the first download single „(I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight“ - yes exactly the Cutting Crew hit from 1986 – will be available in a brilliant power rock version. The single is accompanied by a awesome music video clip co-starring German comedian Peter Nottmeier. As appetizer we added a snippet of the song to our MySpace player.

The new record, entitled "Be Different Or Die", will be released on May 7th allover the world. The album includes 13 varied, strong songs as well as an awesome live recording of the debut title track “The Dream I Live In“.

4BACKWOODS will also play a bunch of exclusive shows in support of the album on the „Royal Soundz Tour“ with the AirStream-tour bus powered by Fererro's Kinder Maxi King.

Daylight Dies working on new album

Hello from Daylight Dies,

We have continued the steady march towards what will eventually become the fourth Daylight Dies album and are planning to begin pre-production in North Carolina in June. This means piecing together all the fragments of material we’ve exchanged amongst ourselves and refining them into polished demos which will aid in recording the album.

Since we now live in various areas of the country (North Carolina, California and New York), we felt it was especially important to hone the music together prior to the final recording.

While a vague personality of the album has begun to take shape, there is still much more to write.

Powerwolf announce line-up changes

Multinational Heavy Metal ladykillers POWERWOLF have to announce the first line-up change in their glorious history.

Comments the band: "Stefane Funebre will have to focus on his increasing religious duties in the future and will therefore no longer be able to join the wolves on their crusade. Funebre will however remain a part of the pack for life and will keep supporting us with his spiritual and mental guidance behind the scenes. As the new member of the wolfpack we welcome Tom Diener, who will take place on the holy drumseat in the future. Tom already toured with us as temporary replacement for Funebre during the last 12 months and in the meantime has become a true member of the pack and a master of the ceremony. Be sure he will unleash some great metal madness with us in the future!"

Equilibrium announce new singer

German pagan metal masters EQUILIBRIUM just announced the addition of Robse as their new singer. Robse will be the permanent replacement for Helge Stang who left the band recently.

The recordings are on and with his stunning voice we got shitloads of new possibilities for the new album up our sleeves! Theatre of Tragedy split up

After nearly two decades, long-running Norwegian goth metal outfit THEATRE OF TRAGEDY are officially parting ways. In a collective message from the band: "After nearly 17 years in existence THEATRE OF TRAGEDY decided to call it a day and close down. This has not been an easy decision and we have thought about this for a long long time. We finally agreed to this during the production of our latest album Forever Is The World.

THEATRE OF TRAGEDY will come to an end on October 2, 2010, exactly 17 years after we started making music together. Over the years all of us have strived to combine THEATRE OF TRAGEDY with everyday life but in the end it has proven more and more difficult. We have come to appreciate our family lives and jobs, which makes it very hard to continue this life of rock 'n' roll on the road.

We know that some of you will probably be very disappointed, but we also hope you will continue to listen to our music, which all of you learned to appreciate and love so much.

We want to thank everyone of you for all your support over the past 17 years! THEATRE OF TRAGEDY wouldn't have been possible without you! Be sure to catch us on the last THEATRE OF TRAGEDY shows ever this year! The final gig will take place on October 2nd in Stavanger, where it all began.

Nickelback extend tour

(New York, NY): 2010 is shaping up to be another stellar year for the Grammy-nominated Nickelback, who were recently named Billboard’s ‘Group of Decade.’ The band has extended its Dark Horse World Tour into June. The two-month tour begins in Atlantic City on April 3 and ends in Vancouver, British Columbia on June 3. Joining Nickelback for the extended dates will be Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown and Sick Puppies.

The band also rocked the Closing Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games last night in Vancouver. The band literally lit up the stadium with their electric performance of “Burn It To the Ground,” which was viewed by 60,000 in the stadium itself and a global audience that reached into the multi-millions.

Of their performance, the band said, “Having the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver has been a great honour for our city and our country. To be included in the Closing Ceremony, with so many talented artists and athletes, is something we will never forget.”

Nickelback is one of the biggest rock bands in the world, with over 35 million albums sold. The band’s latest album, Dark Horse, debuted at No. 1 on the Neilson SoundScan Top Album Chart in Canada and number two on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and has remained on the Top 200 for 66 weeks selling almost 3 million albums in the US alone.

The Secret sign with Southern Lord

Southern Lord is proud to announce the newest members of its coven, brutal Italian group THE SECRET.

In a statement by Southern Lord this week, label owner Greg Anderson stated: "These days it's extremely rare that we receive a demo submission that blows us away. This was the case with the demo THE SECRET had sent us. Their sound is relentless, uncompromising and extremely lethal. Anti-melody, pro-cacophony!"

Born and shaped in 2003 within the motionless city of Trieste, Italy, THE SECRET come to life as an output for rage, darkness and negativity, combining elements of crust/grind, primitive black metal, dark soundscapes and monolithic riffs that take the listener by the hand through a hallucinated trip towards a foggy and yet invisible tomorrow. After their 2003 Goodfellow Records debut album Luce, the band went through countless lineup changes before finding a new incarnation in 2008 when their second full-length Disintoxication was released. Since then the Goodfellow label has unfortunately ceased to exist, and THE SECRET have now found shelter within Southern Lord's bleak caves.

This April THE SECRET will enter Godcity Studio in Salem, MA with producer Kurt Ballou to record their Southern Lord debut Solve et Coagula, their sonic interpretation of a total loss of faith in social system, religion, personal redemption and every institution.

The Postman Syndrome to release lost demos

On May 22nd, EAST OF THE WALL will be independently releasing the demos for what would have been THE POSTMAN SYNDROME's second album. The band - of which four out of five members went on to EAST OF THE WALL - released their debut LP Terraforming, on Now Or Never Records in 2002. A second album was planned but never recorded due to the label shutting down in 2004.

All of the material that would comprise the record was demoed in the band's rehearsal space, but without funding none of it was ever professionally recorded. After a few lineup changes THE POSTMAN SYNDROME eventually surfaced as EAST OF THE WALL, released a full-length, Farmer's Almanac, via Forgotten Empire Records, and recently announced their sophomore album Ressentiment, which will be released this July via Translation Loss. Yet the band always regretted constant limbo of the final POSTMAN SYNDROME material.

Now, five years after the intended release date, THE POSTMAN SYNDROME's demos have been reworked, remixed, and will finally be pressed to disc. Titled God Relieve Our Grief: A Mausoleum Of Stillborn Demos, it comprises ten songs recorded in various sessions between 2003 - 2005. The tentative tracklist is as follows.

Earache Records is proud to announce the signing of Singapore grindcore band WORMROT.

WORMROT is a three-piece band formed in 2007 by schoolfriends Arif (vocals) and Rasyid (guitars). Completed by drummer Fitri, WORMROT take their love of all things heavy and combine it into utterly pulverising, classic-sounding grindcore.

Drawing on influences from such grindcore legends as INSECT WARFARE, WORMROT recorded a number of EPs and splits, before recording their debut full-length album, ABUSE. Originally released by Scrotum Jus Records in May 2009, Earache Records is due to re-issue ABUSE with a 34 track bonus disc of demos and unreleased material, in all of its punishing glory on April 12th, 2010, before WORMROT kick off a European tour.

Swedish black metal kings WATAIN just completed their fourth full-length album, after two intense months at Necromorbus Studio!

Vocalist and mastermind E. comments: "I am now holding in my hand the final master tape of what might be the most dynamic and charged WATAIN release ever recorded. The unveiling of WATAIN's fourth monument will take place on June 7th, under ceremonial circumstances yet to be revealed.

In collaboration with Sweden Rock Magazine and Season of Mist, WATAIN have put together a special CD that all subscribers of the magazine will get with issue #70 (out April 6th). The CD consists of a cover of BATHORY's "The Return of Darkness and Evil" as well as the brand new track "Reaping Death", from WATAIN's upcoming album, which title is yet to be announced.

Last but not least, WATAIN will release a single entitled "Reaping Death". It will be released as a picture 7" EP on Walpurgisnacht. This single will feature the track "Reaping Death", along with a special B side.

Cynic to release new EP in May

On next May 17th, cult progressive metallers CYNIC will release a brand new EP entitled "Re-Traced", including reinterpretations of four songs from the critically acclaimed "Traced in Air" album, as well as a previously unreleased song.

"'Re-traced' is an experiment for us - an opportunity to turn four songs from 'Traced in Air' inside out and to share something new", comments frontman Paul Masvidal. "In our exploration, we've created music that is part "sci-fi prog folk", part psychedelic rock, part minimalist restraint. These interpretations feel channeled from another galaxy. For the most part the tunes reference some of our favourite musical forms and in our own curious way (electronic/ambient, jazz/fusion, drum n' bass, experimental, shoegaze). There is no vocoder, no traditionally busy CYNIC riffs that are some of our most signatures sounds, but the music retains its song structure, integral melodic sense, harmony and lyrical inspiration."

About the new song: "It is entitled 'Wheels Within Wheels' and it is the most rock / metal tune on the EP. Mood-wise it has a melodic optimism that is a bit more transparent than in other CYNIC songs, giving it a unique and emotive color. We are really pleased with the performances and energy of this track. Considering this song is perhaps the closest reference to a familiar CYNIC sound, it still leaves behind many of the former trademarks and introduces a new shade of groove and dynamic. Progressive music has many faces, and that is always the name of the game for CYNIC: re-inventing ourselves and pushing our own musical boundaries for ourselves and our fans."
