Norther announce new guitarist
2010-02-24
Finnish Melodic Death Metal act NORTHER have issued the following update:

“During the last couple of months Daniel Freyberg from Naildown has been helping us out with our recent live duties. Since he turned out to be a perfect fit in every way we decided to offer him to become a permanent member of the band. Besides his skillfull guitar work he is also a talented songwriter.

We have started composing new material for the next full length studio album which will be tentatively out in autumn 2010. At the moment we have a big bunch of great tracks from which we will start choosing the best ones for the album…"The cream always rises to the top so no filler allowed"

As a grand opening for our fans we are heading to Astia Studios next weekend to record one new song with our longtime producer Anssi Kippo. This exclusive song is going to be released as an online single during April 2010 – so make sure to check out our MySpace profile for more news soon!” - Norther

The new member Daniel Freyberg comments this great news:

"I have really been enjoying my time in Norther from the very first show. After getting so well along with the guys, I was very pleased when they asked me to become a permanent member of the band. I really believe that together we're going to create the strongest Norther album ever!"

1349 announce album title
2010-02-24
Norwegian black metal titans 1349 have announced the title and release date of their new album. The album, entitled "DEMONOIR," will be released by Indie Recordings throughout Europe on April 26, and by Prosthetic Records in North America on April 27.

For the band's fifth full-length release, 1349 decided to suck out the fiercest and most potent energies from every single member and surroundings, channeling it into songs that are pulsating with uncanny atmospheres, rawness and nerve shattering intensity. The whole process of getting the material on record was like one long, exhausting black magic summoning that could not be allowed to go wrong.

"DEMONOIR" is without a shadow of a doubt 1349's darkest, most sinister and brutal work to date, and in this case it comes to mean that the band has gone from the utterly extreme to the genre-expanding and mind-boggling. Black Metal cannot, and will never be the same.

"DEMONOIR" will be available in North America as a digipack CD and a limited edition 12" picture disc LP.

Lineup:
Archaon - Guitars
Frost - Drums
Ravn - Vocals
Seidemann - Bass

The Acacia Strain DVD hits Billboard
2010-02-24
THE ACACIA STRAIN's first DVD, "The Most Known Unknown," which was released last Tuesday, February 16, debuted at #10 on Billboard's Top Music Video Sales Chart. Front man Vincent Benett commented; "This is awesome news. Thank you to everyone who went out and bought the DVD last week. We are really proud of it, and hope you enjoy it. We look forward to seeing you out on tour once we are done writing and recording our new record."

Head over to Metal Injection to check out the clip for "Balboa Towers" and to Myspace Metal to see the clip for "Dr. Doom," both from the DVD.
The double disc set, "The Most Known Unknown," marks the band's first DVD. Disc one documents a sold out show at the Worcester Palladium shot in December 2008, while disc two contains footage of a show at the much smaller and more intimate Waterfront in the band's home turf of Holyoke MA, as well as three music videos, a documentary covering the formative years of the band and a "10 Seconds of Fame" bonus segment, in which select fans were given 10 seconds on camera to do whatever they wanted. The cover art was done by Paul Romano, who also did the cover of the band's album, "Continent."

THE ACACIA STRAIN's last full length, 2008's "Continent," debuted at number 2 on Billboard's "Heatseekers" Chart and the band won the "Myspace Readers' Choice Award" at 2009's GOLDEN GODS awards. The band is gearing up to record a new album for a tentative summer 2010 release.

Crematorium newsflash
2010-02-24
CREMATORIUM, the Los Angeles purveyors of "Murdercore," has announced that guitarist and longest standing member, Mark Uehlein, will be leaving the band for personal reasons. His last show with CREMATORIUM will be this Saturday, February 27th at The Blvd in Los Angeles, CA.

Vocalist Daniel Dismal commented on the subject: "This Saturday night is going to be Mark's last show ever with CREMATORIUM. Mark has dedicated a lot of blood and sweat into playing with CREMATORIUM since 1996 and in many ways, CREMATORIUM would not have done as much as we have as a band if it was not for Mark's involvement with the band. It's a sad day to watch Mark leave but we want to give him a proper send off and let him know just how much he will be missed and how much he's actually given to the underground Metal scene as a whole."

Epica tour bus crashed
2010-02-22
On February 12th female fronted Dutch symphonic metallers EPICA was on the road to Victoria, Canada. To reach the next city on their current tour, they had to drive through the Rocky Mountains. In the early morning on Canadian Highway 1 a car went spinning for the bus. By running the bus against the rail-guard busdriver Dave Mabry managed to avoid a head-on collision. Some band- and crew members were thrown out of their bunks and the car was totally damaged. But fortunately nobody was injured.

Celesty announce new vocalist
2010-02-22
The Finnish power metal sextet CELESTY has a new lead vocalist, Tony Turunen, brother of former Nightwish frontwoman Tarja Turunen.

"This feels awesome!" Tony admits. "This is a new and interesting challenge for
me. I'm eagerly waiting to see what the future holds for me and the band."

Dozens of singers applied for the position, but in the end the decision was easy
and unambiguous. "He's not only a great singer, but also a talented lead
vocalist with a very powerful stage presence. Plus he's a great guy!" summarizes
drummer and composer Jere Luokkamäki.

CELESTY's search for a new vocalist began in December. Even if the band was sure
who they wanted, the new vocalist had to wait for the confirmation until February.

"A good friend of mine mentioned that Celesty was looking for a new lead
vocalist. Since I had listened a lot to their latest album Vendetta, I decided
to apply for the position." Tony explains. "Of course I hoped they'd choose me,
but I was still surprised when the band invited me to meet them in a studio.
Eventually I recorded vocals for three songs in January. After some time, which
actually felt reeeaaally long, the band welcomed me to be their new singer."

"I feel positive about the future, and I already have lots of ideas for the
band. I will do my best and be creative, both in the studio and during live
shows. My expectations for the band are extremely high!" says Tony, whose first
live show with CELESTY will be in March.

Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) and Arve Isdal (ENSLAVED, AUDREY HORNE) at their Earshot and Conclave studios in Bergen.

Valkyrie sign with Meteor City
2010-02-22
Virginia-based heavy rock band VALKYRIE recently signed a deal with METEOR CITY RECORDS (THE OBSESSED, NEBULA, UNIDA) Meteor City will reissue both Valkyrie's self-titled debut album and their second album, Man of Two Visions. Release dates are set for July 5 (Europe) and July 6 (North America.).

Founded in 2002 in Lexington, Virginia by brothers Jake and Pete Adams (also of BARONESS),Valkyrie's twin harmonized guitar leads and clean dual vocals display a "musical telepathy" that only brothers can achieve. With a strong nod to classic doom and traditional heavy metal, Valkyrie's "genre transcending" sound also pays homage to classic heavy rock bands like DEEP PURPLE and THIN LIZZY while bringing to mind the pastoral and organic sounds of WISHBONE ASH and JETHRO TULL. With no regard to image, or retro-rock posturing, Valkyrie's true, classic heavy metal assault continues to turn many heads with its impressive live shows and soul-stirring conviction.
