Shining part with Indie Recordings
2011-04-02
SHINING founder Niklas Kvarforth announced today that the band has parted company with label Indie Recordings, and has instead signed with Spinefarm Records. The front man, who late last month announced that he was quitting all his other projects, with the exception of Maniac’s SKITLIV, so that he could concentrate on SHINING, is keen to stress that the parting from Indie is completely amicable explaining that “There is absolutely no bad blood between SHINING and Indie Recordings. We sat down together and talked everything through, and everyone came to the conclusion that the best way for SHINING to grow and develop would be to sign the band to a label with the size and experience of Spinefarm. I would like to thank Indie for putting the interests of the band first and allowing this to deal to happen”.

The surprise move also means that SHINING’s much delayed seventh full length album will now appear on Spinefarm rather than Indie, with a release date having been set for the 25th May. Commenting on the upcoming release and the new cooperation with Spinefarm, Kvarforth had this to say: “VII / Född Förlorare” has been long in coming due to a series of unfortunate delays, none of which had anything to do with Indie, and it is a relief to all of us that it will finally see the light of day. I personally am extremely happy to be working with Spinefarm’s Teemu, and am confident that SHINING will now be able to go from strength to strength”.

My Dying Bride celebrate 20th anniversary
2011-04-01
To commemorate two decades of doom and gloom from My Dying Bride, the band embarked upon a special project to re-work familiar melodies and themes from their extensive catalogue into long, flowing symphonic compositions, incorporating new vocals and passages from Aaron Stainthorpe. Sharing vocals is professional opera singer Lucie Roche, a talented soprano from France.

These arrangements have been brought to life in co-operation with keyboard maestro Johnny Maudling (of Bal Sagoth fame) as well as a clutch of talented classical musicians and will be released on May 16th (May 31st US) as ‘Evinta’, as a 2 disc set, inspired by My Dying Bride’s illustrious recordings of the past two decades.

“Evinta. A project almost 15 years in the making. An idea that has sat smoldering and never really had a reason to burn alive until now. 9 albums worth of darkness recreated anew to mark 20 years of MDB. Music arranged to the soundscapes of sorrows past. Finally the 20th anniversary allows us to release this music in a form it has been desperately, woefully waiting for. Enjoy the Darkness.”
- MY DYING BRIDE

The band's 20 year celebrations continue with a string of shows, entitled the 'Albion In Ruin' tour, coming in May:

May 18 2011 The Electric Ballroom London England
May 19 2011 Manchester Academy Manchester England
May 20 2011 Wulfren Hall Wolverhampton England
May 21 2011 Button Factory Dublin Ireland
May 22 2011 The Spring & Airbrake Belfast N. Ireland

My Dying Bride has been the leading light of doom metal since their debut album As the Flower Withers was released on Peaceville Records back in 1992. Influenced by acts such as Celtic Frost and Candlemass, the band’s heavy atmospherics have carved a huge worldwide following over the years and they remain at the pinnacle of the genre.

Sleep announce new live dates
2011-04-01
Following the successful Marijuanaut's Return tour of September 2010, West Coast stoner metal legends SLEEP recently announced three North American dates for 2011. The mini run of dates will include New York City on June 22, Los Angeles on June 26 and an appearance at the Sled Island Music & Arts Festival in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on June 24.

SLEEP 2011 Tour Dates:
6/22/2011 Terminal 5 - New York, NY
6/24/2011 Sled Island Festival - Calgary, AB
6/26/2011 The Wiltern - Los Angeles, CA

Said Noisecreep of the band's last live excursion: "...if the band put any more stacks on the stage, it just might have collapsed." Added Popdose: "SLEEP was fucking killer and who knows what the future holds... if you get a chance, they are well worth your time and money...be prepared for one of the loudest fucking things you’ve ever heard." Rolling Stone Brazil gave the band's performance a perfect 5 out of 5 rating while Redefine Magazine noted: "SLEEP, despite being broken up for over ten years, seemed like they hadn't missed a beat -- and Holy Mountain never sounded so good in the process. This was the definitive show of the weekend, if not the definitive show of my year."

Led Zeppelin 2 tour recap
2011-04-01
LED ZEPPELIN 2, the tribute band featuring bassist Chris Klein, drummer Ian Lee, guitarist Paul Kamp and vocalist Bruce Lamont, recently wrapped up a hugely successful North American tour that hit nearly a month's worth of cities and truly captivated fans with a flawless reenactment of the live improvisation and onstage interaction that earned Led Zeppelin their legendary status in the first place. Rather than a "greatest hits" show, Lamont and co allow fans to experience Zeppelin as Zeppelin would have played in front of an audience. LZ2 sold out venues across the U.S. in 2010 and continued to draw rave reviews for a "spot-on" Zeppelin show, playing deep cuts and classic tracks from the entire catalog, and occasionally entire Led Zeppelin performances from specific dates.

Most widely recognized for his saxophone and vocal work fronting Chicago's Yakuza, Bruce Lamont has contributed to a plethora of other projects including Bloodiest (featuring members of 90 Day Men, Sterling), Circle of Animals (with Sanford Parker, Minsk/The High Confessions) and Sick Gazelle (with Eric Block and Sanford Parker). He's also recorded with Sigh, East West Blast Test, Minsk, Nachtmystium, Rabid Rabbit, Brutal Truth, Cephalic Carnage, Sweet Cobra, Locrian, Hex Machine and more.
Commented Lamont of the last round of LED ZEPPELIN 2 dates: "It was an amazing winter run. While every stop was an eye-opener for us, some of the highlights were sold-out shows in first time places like Corpus Christi, Ft. Lauderdale and a massive Austin stop (1200+). San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Portland were also mong our faves (you too Boston, New York and of course sweet home Chicago). We have summer fest dates on the way. Stayed tuned! "

In recent reviews, Timeout New York called LZ2, "the best Zep band going anywhere." Timeout Chicago agreed: "There are a lot of Zep tributes out there, but this one's our favorite, not least because its members fully immerse themselves in the musicianship and style of the four classic-rock heavyweights. That Yakuza howler Bruce Lamont does a mean Robert Plant is icing on the cake.” The Onion commended the band saying, "these imitators get the Led out in a way your battered copy of Physical Graffiti never will, right down to the unearthly tones of guitarist Paul Kamp's bowed Les Paul solos. Sure, purists are still holding out for the real deal's tour, but even if that happens, it's doubtful that Robert Plant can wail the opening lines of 'Black Dog' as well as his LED ZEPPELIN 2 counterpart, Bruce Lamont,” while The New Yorker noted: "The band is on its way out of the minor leagues, and is now playing bigger venues for a generation of fans too young to have ever experienced the genuine article.” Even Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett is hooked stating simply, “these guys sound fucking exactly like Led Zeppelin!" after seeing their L.A. performance.

7 Horns 7 Eyes sign with Basick Records
2011-03-31
BASICK RECORDS are extremely happy to welcome Seattle's crushingly progressive, 7 HORNS 7 EYES to their ranks!

Combining grisly, deep growls reminiscent of Mikael Åkerfeldt and the dark atmospheric elements of Katatonia along with Meshuggah's technical ferocity, 7 HORNS 7 EYES has developed the skills to electrify the younger scene while still maintaining the brutality and musical prowess to appeal to traditional Metal fans as well.

In a join partnership and subsequent licensing deal with Century Media, the debut 7 HORNS 7 EYES full-length album, 'Throes of Absolution' will see a European release via BASICK in Autumn 2011.

'Throes of Absolution' features a guest appearance by Jeff Loomis (NEVERMORE) and will see the band touring heavily in support of the record. Aborted announce new album
2011-03-31
Belgian death metal veterans ABORTED will begin recording its seventh full length record to date from June onwards at the infamous Hansen Studios with producer Jacob Hansen (Invocator, Hatesphere, Volbeat). The band will be tracking over 15 tracks of the most brutal and intense material they have written to date. The sonic onslaught - baptized as "Global Flatline" - will contain 12 tracks with additional bonus material featured on limited editions.

The artwork for “Global Flatline” will once again be handled by Justin Osbourne who previously worked with the band on its 2010 EP “Coronary Reconstruction” as well. Since 2011 marks the ten year anniversary of ABORTED's “Engineering The Dead” record, the band decided to re-record two tracks of the album as part of the bonus material for “Global Flatline”. You can vote for your favorite “Engineering The Dead” songs on the band’s Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/Abortedofficial

Vocalist, founder and gurgloroth Sven de Caluwé comments:

"We are thrilled to be finally recording “Global Flatline” and have the material out there. It is exciting in many ways, one being that this might be one of the most important records in ABORTED's career. We really took our time in composing the most heavy and uncompromising material the band has written to date. Some of the material is faster than ever, some of the material is slower than ever, some old school and some new school, inspired by all eras of ABORTED, yet still sounding unique on its own. Writing this record definitely took us back to the roots of why we started playing this kind of music in the first place, the passion and adrenaline you get from playing extreme metal.

Obviously it just isn't a carbon copy of “Goremageddon” or “Engineering The Dead” or anything: there are plenty of new elements as well since we never believe in writing the same record. Those who checked out “Coronary Reconstruction” have had a small taste of what's to come and we can guarantee you won't be disappointed with “Global Flatline”!

We are also very excited to be working again with Jacob Hansen, the man who produced “Goremageddon” and “The Haematobic” EP and it was always a pleasure to work with him then, so this should be a blast."

See ABORTED live on the following dates:
August 11, 2011 - Schlotheim, Germany – Party San Open Air
August 18, 2011 - Dinkelsbühl, Germany – Summer Breeze Open Air

Scelerata working on new album
2011-03-31
SCELERATA is currently working on its third album, which will be recorded in Brazil and Germany. This new effort will be produced by Charlie Bauerfeind (Helloween, Blind Guardian, Rage, Saxon, Halford, Hammerfall, Motörhead), continuing the partnership started in 2007, when he worked on "Skeletons Domination", Scelerata's second album.

About this partnership the drummer Francis Cassol said: "It will be our second work with Charlie, whom we worked with on Skeletons Domination, but the first time that he works since the beginning of the recordings. He had the idea to produce and record the album, which we thought was great. We are discussing about the recording and new songs since the first half of 2010, and we are very excited to see it done."

Francis will begin the drummer recordings in Germany in May, at Blind Guardian's Twilight Hall Studios. The recordings will be finished untill July.

Meanwhile Scelerata is rehearsing to play in Porto Alegre in April 10th, with Kamelot, during its South American tour.

Symphony X reveal new album details
2011-03-30
North America's progressive metal masterminds SYMPHONY X are proud to announce the two artwork versions and track listings for their ninth studio album & Nuclear Blast debut, Iconoclast. It will be available in Europe on June 17th and in North America on June 21st.

Illustrator and film concept artist Warren Flanagan (Watchmen, The Incredible Hulk, 2012) is the talent behind the album artwork. Here, he shares his creative process on the new album’s artwork:

“The idea was to create imagery that was a little darker in tone to previous SYMPHONY X albums and to represent the overall theme of Iconoclast into the artwork. The whole concept came from Mike [Romeo], who had a strong idea of what the cover should represent based off the music. I just ran with it. When the album’s title was decided on, I focused the image based on the meaning of it. I also wanted to use the band’s signature 'masks' but present them in a way that connected to the new album.”

SYMPHONY X founder & lead guitarist Michael Romeo has the following to say about Flanagan’s art:

"We worked with Warren on the last CD, Paradise Lost, and have a good relationship with him. When I talk to Warren about artwork ideas, a lot of times we end up making comparisons to films and movies. With the new CD, Iconoclast, the music and lyrics have a darker mechanical/technological theme, and I remember us talking about scenes from films like The Matrix and Terminator. From there, we sent him some song titles and lyrics (songs like 'Dehumanized,' 'Bastards Of The Machine,' 'Electric Messiah') and just let Warren run with the ball. He has a great imagination and style, and he totally gets what we are trying to convey with the music."

The track listing for the jewel-cased version of Iconoclast is:

01. Iconoclast
02. The End Of Innocence
03. Dehumanized
04. Bastards Of The Machine
05. Heretic
06. Children Of A Faceless God
07. Electric Messiah
08. Prometheus (I Am Alive)
09. When All Is Lost
