Gamma Ray to release new album
2011-03-24
Set for release in the US and Canada on May 31st via Armoury Records/Eagle Rock Entertainment, Skeletons & Majesties is a collection of songs GAMMA RAY gathered from previous albums represented in two completely different styles. The purpose of the disc is simply to have fun, and to give fans a heads-up on what is in store for the band in the coming months, as well as involve their fans in the upcoming actions.

The first two tracks are the "Skeletons," featuring brand new versions of some of GAMMA RAY's songs rarely (if ever) played live, including "Hold Your Ground" (from their Heading For Tomorrow album) and "Brothers" (from the Insanity And Genius album). The second section, "Majesties," is where the band display two more new versions of rarities, "Send Me A Sign (originally on the Powerplant release) and "Rebellion In Dreamland" (originally on Land Of The Free), both performed in a new acoustic presentation.

Additionally, GAMMA RAY have also included some bonus tracks, including the ultra rare track "Wannabees" -- previously only released on the To The Metal! 7’’, and available here on CD for the first time -- as well as an extended version of "Brothers."

And to top it off, the final track on the EP is another version of "Rebellion In Dreamland," this time KARAOKE style! The band have launched a special contest, where they'll be integrating a "choir" of their fans' voices on the upcoming album version of the song! Diehards and wailers can take part in the competition by submitting a recording of their version of the song via physical demo submission or digital sound file.

Exmortus enter studio
2011-03-24
Since the release of their debut album In Hatreds Flame during July 2008, EXMORTUS have kept busy touring and gigging relentlessly with bands such as label mates Vektor and LA black thrashers Witchaven. After suffering a temporary setback with the departure of former frontman Balmore during early 2010, the band rebounded quickly with lead guitar shredder Conan taking over on vocals and the addition of new guitarist Sean Redline. The short break from their busy live schedule also provided the band with the time needed to complete the material for their upcoming sophomore album entitled Beyond the Fall of Time. Armed to the teeth with their most aggressive material to date the death-thrash quartet entered Black Static Studio in Los Angeles to begin recording Beyond the Fall of Time, tentatively scheduled for release during late summer 2011 on Heavy Artillery Records. Drummer Mario Moreno had this to say about the new line-up and progress in the studio to date:

“We’ve been at Black Static Studios for nine days now and we feel that we couldn’t have picked a better studio to capture the new material. The line-up change during early 2010 set our original recording plans back by several months so we’re excited to finally be recording this album. With the new line-up of Conan on vocals and the addition of Sean Redline on second guitar the band is at its strongest ever. We’re really happy with the new material and the heavier sound. Sean has contributed a lot of great ideas to the album overall and Conan will finally get to showcase his vocals.”

Catch EXMORTUS live at the Black Castle in Los Angeles on Friday March 25th with Witchaven, Killbot, Zombie Holocaust and more.

Paradise Lost show rescheduled
2011-03-24
Unfortunately due to the fire at the Elysée Montmartre, we regret to announce that PARADISE LOST had to reschedule the Draconian Times show in Paris . The new date is Sunday, April 3rd and will take place at the Bataclan. As the band is unable to perform in France on March 30th, PARADISE LOST will be playing a club gig in Cologne , Germany on Wednesday, March 30th instead. This show will be at the Luxor , and ticket details for this show will be available soon.

Nick Holmes (voc.) comment: "After the success of the Bochum show selling out we are pleased to be able to announce a last-minute extra date in Koln at the Luxor on Wed 30th March. As many of you know this date was originally intended to be the Elysée Montmartre show in Paris . Unfortunately, as you are probably aware by now, there was a fire at the Elysée Montmartre which we are all deeply saddened by because we've had many good times there in the past and we're looking forward to playing there again at some point in the future. Despite this tragedy we have managed to arrange an alternative Parisian show at the Bataclan on the 3rd of April. For anyone who wasn't able to buy tickets for Bochum we hope you can join us on the 30th in Koln and celebrate these gigs with us!"

Finntroll confirmed for Bloodstock
2011-03-22
One of the leading names in the folk/pagan metal scene, FINNTROLL, returns to BLOODSTOCK after a rapturous reception back in 2007. Originally conceived as the result of a night of alcholic carnage, when in a moment of inspiration, original guitarist Teemu “Somnium” Raimoranta (RIP) and former vocalist Jan “Katia” Jamsen conceived of a band that fused the darkness and grandeur of black metal with the traditional Finnish hoedown-music. The resultant sound was FINNTROLL.

Joining them will be Fellow Finnish folk-freaks WINTERSUN, who’s set at BLOODSTOCK this year will be highly anticipated after they were forced to pull out the 2009 event to complete their still to be released “Time” album, expected later this year. Featuring members from some of the top names in the Finnish metal scene including Ensiferum, Rotten Sound and Norther, WINTERSUN are something of a super-group, with the various members influences combining to create a unique blend of melodic death and power metal with a heavy folk flavour that is bound to go down a storm with the BLOODSTOCK crowd.

Also added to the line-up are reformed US Thrash legends FORBIDDEN. The recently reformed thrashers released their first album in over 13 years last October, after too-long a hiatus. “Omega Wave”, released via Nuclear Blast records, received rave reviews in the British metal media and was rapturously received by fans, who lapped up the 12 tracks of no nonsense, back-to basics thrash on offer. Find out why FORBIDDEN are one of the most highly regarded acts of the 80s/90s US thrash scene at this, their first ever UK festival appearance.

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of JOURNEY’s forthcoming studio album Eclipse in Europe on May 27th 2011.

Eclipse is Journey’s fifteenth studio album and shows the band at the peak of their creative juices, truly regenerated after the blistering success of their last studio album "Revelation".

Across Tundras album details
2011-03-15
As previously announced, ACROSS TUNDRAS have signed with Neurot Recordings for the release of their newest full-length opus, and we now proudly unveil details on this beautiful display of purely organic atmospheric rock.

The sprawling, seven-song album, entitled Sage, is now officially confirmed for North American release on May 17th, 2011. Neurot label owner, Neurosis' Steve Von Till, exposes a bit of insight on the new album: "Lurking somewhere between unearthed, aged, haunted Americana and the psychedelic sludge scraped from the edges of the cosmos, Across Tundras' new artifact Sage explores new territory, that while at once, rooted in history, and soaked firmly in the rich soil they cultivate, rises above the arcane to the sound of what will become."

Sage Track Listing:
1. In the Name of River Grand
2. Hijo de Desierto
3. Buried Arrows
4. The Book of Truth
5. Tchulu Junction
6. Mean Season Movin' On
7. Shunka Sapa

On this album, more than ever before, ACROSS TUNDRAS manage to perfectly capture their heritage through a perfect amalgam of haunting doom tinged Americana and echoes of traditional country blues all bound by heavy waves of psychedelic sludge. Their organic sound is well-honed, marking Sage as their most fully realized album to date with all their influences and elements flowing cohesively with one another. A utterly original album, broadening the horizons for metal music, taking it into unknown territories and yet still with a warm familiarity we have grown to love about ACROSS TUNDRAS' music over the years. Echoing our sentiments entirely, Tanner from the band remarked “This is by far the best AT album we've done.”

Additionally, ACROSS TUNDRAS have also just confirmed a plethora of American touring activities for the coming weeks as they begin to unveil the material on Sage to the public. With shows already booked throughout March, April, May and June -- and with many more in the planning stages to be announced shortly -- this is just the beginning of an extensively active year for the band.

Intensus sign with Metal Blade Records
2011-03-15
Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of INTENSUS, an exciting and unique recording project masterminded by multi-instrumentalist Eli Litwin, drummer of Knife the Glitter, Burden, Normal Love and others. A resident of Philadelphia for many years, Litwin has been active in the local metal and underground rock scenes, as well as the avant-garde/improvised music scene. Through merging and reinterpreting these dynamic scenes, the vision for INTENSUS was born: an improvised extreme metal album with one goal in mind—intensity.

The first, self-titled INTENSUS album features vocals from Tommy Rogers (Between the Buried and Me), Robert Meadows (A Life Once Lost), Jesse Korman (The Number Twelve Looks Like You), Chris Alfano (East of the Wall / Postman Syndrome), Jerry Jones (Trophy Scars), Travis Weinand (Burden / Tetsuo), Evan Moore (Gypsy Wig / Birth Screams), and Ruston Grosse. Also featured on the album, Alex Nagle (Satanized / ex-Normal Love) and Jason Herrmann (Burden / Tetsuo) lend their guitar shredding skills for 2 incredible solos.

Eli Litwin comments; "It is an incredible honor to be signed with Metal Blade Records. Cannibal Corpse’s The Bleeding was one of the first metal albums I ever heard so I feel as though things have really come full circle. I am beyond excited that such an important and influential label will be releasing my music to the world."

Tommy Rogers of BTBAM, guest vocalist, comments: "Working on the INTENSUS record was a breath of fresh air. It was nice to take a totally different approach to writing and recording. When Eli sent me the songs he told me he had written a lot of the material through improv. So I decided to take the same route and write/record the vocals on the fly. It was a very exciting experience. My motivation: let go and destroy my fucking voice. This music is truly intense and I'm very happy to be a part of it."

About the project:
INTENSUS can be described in one word: INTENSE. The visceral instrumental performance is enhanced by each vocalist who brings his own brand of intensity to the album, making for a varied, yet flowing musical journey. Within this strong and unique artistic vision, songs range from short, violent bursts of grind and death metal, to crushing doom grooves, to complex tech metal, to experimental noise freak outs.

The process of creating INTENSUS began with one recording session in which Litwin improvised drum tracks for the entire album; start to finish, in one take. Over the course of the next year, he simultaneously wrote and recorded guitar tracks to build songs out of the improvised drum parts. Some guitar sections were first take improvisations as well, while others were written and recorded within 5-25 minutes. The general idea was to keep everything as spontaneous as possible. After all guitars were recorded, Litwin learned everything on bass and went through the same process. Once all of the music was completed, Litwin enlisted a number of singers to contribute vocals to the project. Each singer wrote his own lyrics but the final vocal performances were largely a collaborative effort with Litwin in the producer chair.

INTENSUS personnel:
Drums, Guitar, Bass, Songwriter, Producer:
Eli Litwin

Guest Vocalists:
Tommy Rogers (Between the Buried and Me)
Robert Meadows (A Life Once Lost)
Jesse Korman (The Number Twelve Looks Like You)

Travis Weinand (Burden / Tetsuo)
