Hammerfall reveal new album details
2011-03-15
On May, 20th, HAMMERFALL is going to release their new album called Infected. Laying down the foundation themselves in their own studio in Sweden, the band then traveled to Nashville, TN, to finish it up with acclaimed producer James Michael (MÖTLEY CRÜE, SCORPIONS, MEAT LOAF). He also mixed the album, giving it a decisive updated edge without losing anything of the essence of the band. "James helped us create something that was new and exciting while still in the line of our heritage", Oscar Dronjak, guitar player and founder of the band, explains.

“Never before have we sounded this fresh and up to date without losing the essence of what HammerFall is all about: Pure "Infected" Heavy Metal!”, comments vocalist and frontman Joacim Cans.

"You will experience us like you've never done before! We've got a lot of fresh influences shining through in the music, but everything you love about HammerFall will still be there“, says Oscar. "This is HammerFall in 2011, the legend has been reborn!"

On March 12th, the album was introduced for the first time to an international group of press people in Göteborg, where the album received a great response. Metal Hammer Spain calls it “the HammerFall of the future“, while British Powerplay Magazine comments: "Infected will have the name HammerFall spreading like a virus. Prepare for an epidemic!"

The album consists eleven songs, and the limited first edition will also include a bonus DVD with unreleased video material of five of the Infected tracks.

A compete track listing of the album reads as follows:

Patient Zero
Bang Your Head
One More Time
The Outlaw
Send Me A Sign
Dia De Los Muertos
I Refuse
666 - The Enemy Within
Immortalized
Let's Get It On
Redemption

The first single will be One More Time, released on April 6th, digital only. A video will be shot by Patrick Ullaeus, who is also responsible for the cover artwork of Infected.

2011-03-15
Good news for all lovers of high class power metal: BRAINSTORM have entered the studio 22 in Ludwigsburg (Germany) to record their new album “On The Spur Of The Moment”.

Vocalist Andy B. Franck:
„Since February 25th we are back together in the studio to work on the new album. We decided to record it with Axel Heckert in the Studio 22 in Ludwigsburg. Axel is a huge fan of the band and he will help us to reach a whole new level. The song material we have is again more aggressive than the last songs we had written. For us “Memorial Roots” was a cool album, but “On The Spur Of The Moment” will be a BLAST! We are really happy and excited to start recording new material because we cannot hear the old songs anymore… time for something new!”

Mathias Nygand (vocals): "We’ve always had a very strong support on the Iberian peninsula and we’re of course extremely happy about that. Over the years we’ve often been over there as part of a support act, but we felt we owed our fans in Spain and Portugal some proper headline shows for a change. We’ve been trying to make this happen for ages, but it’s taken time. So now we're definitely coming, make you turn up and show your support! I'm sure we’ll have some amazing shows happening! We think this trip will prove that bands could do so much more on the Iberian peninsula, if they had the courage to just go a bit further and explore it. We are super excited about it! Let’s paint Iberia black and red together!"

Slipknot reveal temporary bassist
2011-03-15
Overnight, SLIPKNOT have made an announcement on their Official Website with regards to who will be taking up bass playing duties on their forthcoming run of summer shows, stepping in for Paul Gray, who sadly past awaqy last May. The post reads as follows:

For their upcoming shows in 2011, Slipknot has asked Donnie Steele to fill in for Paul Gray on bass. Donnie, as some may recall, was the original guitar player in Slipknot and had actually reconnected with Paul in recent years. Said the band on their decision, “Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family. Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning. The eight of us are looking forward to being onstage again and honoring Paul’s legacy with our families in Europe and Brazil this summer.”

Slipknot will play the UK as headliners at this summers Sonisphere Festival which takes place July 8th-10th at Knebworth.

2011-03-15
Dutch heavy/melodic folk metal band CONORACH have announced that their search for a new guitarist is over. After a search spanning 3 months, the band welcomes 19 year old Sadiki Berdah into the fold, after Patrick den Drijver announced his departure last Winter.

Following Patrick's announcement to leave the band on friendly terms to pursue other interests, the band started an extensive campagne on the band's social media platforms and in musician's hangouts in the western part of the Netherlands. Aided by an engaged fanbase applicants soon arose and auditions were held. The band was much impressed by Sadiki's skill, originality in style and passion for music and know for sure they've found their man.

The band has been working on exciting new songs since the Summer of 2010, carefully creeping towards a follow-up of 2008's 'Tales from the Tavern' release. With Sadiki completing CONORACH's line-up, the band is enjoying a refreshed enthusiasm and vigour that will have the band returning to the stage with a vengeance.

The band is to play this year's edition of the RoadGrill festival in Rotterdam with more gigs to follow.

Decapitated studio update
2011-03-08
Polish technical death metal band DECAPITATED continue their work at Radio Gdańsk Studio in Poland recording their Nuclear Blast debut and follow-up to 2006’s „Organic Hallucinosis“.

Bassist Filip "Heinrich" Hałucha checks in from the studio:

“The sound we've worked out for the bass recording is huge, nasty, and crushing. Thanks to this, we've come up with a couple of arrangements where the bass comes out of the background and plays the major part. I must admit that, with his old school approach, Arek ‘Malta’ Malczewski has fit well in the concept of this album. His choice of instrument levels was superb - it all sounds mighty yet there's no mutual interference. The bass recording took us three days plus an extra day for sound search. After much deliberation and testing different solutions, we chose a configuration of two amps: a tube Ampeg SVT Classic and a transistor B4R, one of which had huge distortion. I should add that we did not use any line signals and all the signals come from microphones, which recently has been a rarity as far as bass recording goes in metal music. Taking into account the ‘no compromise’ approach of Vogg and Malta, it has been undoubtedly the hardest and the most advanced session I have ever participated in. Tracking lasted from the beginning of a song to its end; ‘copying and pasting’ any parts was out of the question. Due to this, the session was much more demanding and time-consuming, but the final effect is the music sounding more lively and natural. Everything has been recorded using instruments only; it's awesome without all of these digital fireworks - advanced editions, plastic drums, pasted riffs, etc. It reeks of the old metal spirit. There 's proper metal groove and speed but also a specific vibe which adds up to what this type of music is all about.”

DECAPITATED’s fifth studio album is being produced by Wacek Kiełtyka and sound engineered by Arkadiusz "Malta" Malczewski. Drums were recorded with Daniel Bergstrand (BEHEMOTH, MESHUGGAH, DIMMU BORGIR, KEEP OF KALESSIN, DEFLESHED), who is also handling mixing duties. The band will be self-releasing the new album in their native Poland.

Ogen complete new album
2011-03-08
Hartagga, mastermind of Italian atmospheric black metal project OGEN, has issued the following update:

"We have completed work in the studio, both the recording and mixing/mastering duties are gone. I think the result is way beyond what I expected sound-wise. Producer Daniele Mandelli [FORGOTTEN TOMB, DARK HORIZON] did an incredible job on this album, and thanks to him we are one step closer to get it out there in record time. If you are looking for some inspired, atmospheric metal, then I guess you won't be disappointed while listening to "Black Metal Unbound"!"

OGEN's debut EP "Black Metal Unbound" is tentatively due in late Spring via Kolony Records.

Hour of 13 announce new vocalist
2011-03-08
North Carolina doom metallers, HOUR OF 13 were pleased to introduce veteran vocalist, Ben Hogg (BIRDS OF PREY, BEATEN BACK TO PURE) into the fold this past Saturday night in New York City. He and the band played a powerful set to a packed NYC crowd all there to celebrate the band's recent reissue of THE RITUALIST, a modern classic of doom metal. Ben performed superbly and gave the band a stronger presence that will no doubt make the band a force to be reckoned with as widespread touring plans are falling into place in 2011.

HOUR OF 13 guitarist and founder, Chad Davis recently had this to say about Ben Hogg: "HOUR OF 13 could not be more pleased with the dedication and amount of work Ben has shown. He is a valuable talent to have in the band. He is a vital presence that we were needing in the fold and thanks to him, we are stronger and more focused than ever."

Black Stone Cherry to release new album
2011-03-08
NEW YORK, NY: Roadrunner Records is pleased to announce the third Black Stone Cherry Album, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, is due out May 31st, 2011.

Kentucky’s Black Stone Cherry, comprised of vocalist Chris Robertson, guitarist Ben Wells, bassist Jon Lawhon and Drummer John Fred Young, is a band adept at creating both timeless rock ‘n roll and new, innovative sounds. While the band’s last record, Folklore and Superstition, was a compelling tribute to brotherhood and history, the new album is the summation of a year in the life of the band—every emotion, triumph, loss, romance and everything in between—it’s all here on Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.

This is the first time Black Stone Cherry has not recorded in the South, this time taking up residence in Los Angeles to work with famed producer Howard Benson (Theory of a Deadman, Daughtry, Three Days Grace). The new surroundings allowed them to strengthen their relationships as both band members and friends, ultimately a detail that sets Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea above previous recordings. The raw intensity that pervades the music on this album harkens back to the early days of Black Stone Cherry, when they were a bunch of blue-collar guys just making music together for the hell of it. The band admits “When we first began writing music, we hadn’t traveled very far out of our home state of Kentucky. Now, ten years later, we’ve traveled the world and experienced things we never imagined we would.”

First single “White Trash Millionaire,” set to hit airwaves in April, pairs Robertson’s soulful delivery with the urgent and infectious rhythms of his fellow players. Sure, this is Southern rock at heart; but the concept is universal: just take what the world gives you and make that work. “This album is the culmination of all of the everyday ups and downs life throws at you,” says the band. “Sonically, you’ll hear some of the meanest sounding guitar riffs we’ve ever laid down, and at the same time, you’ll find ballads that will tug on your heartstrings. We wanted the album’s intensity to match that of our live show. We’re very proud of this album and excited for our fans to hear it!”

To celebrate the release of Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, Black Stone Cherry is participating in an ongoing partnership with Evan Williams Kentucky Bourbon. The promotion brings 450,000 Black Stone Cherry branded bottles to shelves nationwide through June, including special mp3 offers and a chance to win a trip to meet the band at one of their shows.

Chosen as the last rock act to play the venue, Billy Joel staged his "Last Play At Shea" concerts on July 16 and July 18, 2008, rocking a combined audience of 110,000 fans with one of the most emotionally charged shows ever played at the historic stadium. After 45 years, two New York Mets World Series victories, the arena debut of The Beatles and Billy Joel's "The Last Play At Shea," the final section of Shea Stadium was torn down in 2009.
