Cathedral reveal album details

Veteran British doom/stoner band CATHEDRAL will release its ninth full-length album and second for the Nuclear Blast label, The Guessing Game, on March 26, 2010 (Europe) and April 20, 2010 (North America).

The album was recorded at the Chapel Studios (THE DARKNESS, NAPALM DEATH, URIAH HEEP, WET WET WET, SIMPLE MINDS) in Lincolnshire, U.K. and was once again produced by Warren Riker (DOWN, CROWBAR). It also sports stunning new artwork from band collaborator Dave Patchett.

The Guessing Game will be released as a 2-Disc set.

CATHEDRAL's most recent album, The Garden of Unearthly Delights, was released in Europe in October 2005 and in North America in January 2006. Produced by Riker, the follow-up to 2002's The VIIth Coming was said to be the band's "most varied effort so far."

Using every stylistic device — from female vocals up to violins — and embedding it all in that typical CATHEDRAL brand of doom, The Garden of Unearthly Delights was described as "a treat for every fan of the band, old and new alike."

Scar Symmetry to tour with Hypocrisy
2010-02-18
Swedish progressive melodic death metallers, SCAR SYMMETRY, have been added to the "A Taste of Extreme Divinity" Tour as direct support to headliners HYPOCRISY.

Guitarist Per Nilsson commented:

"Touring the US with our buddies HYPOCRISY, are you f***ing kidding me?! We'd better make reservations at the Betty Ford clinic! Man, is this going to be a party or what?! We haven't toured North America since 2007, which makes for two albums worth of music never performed live over there. Many thanks to HYPOCRISY for inviting us!"

Motörhead and Porcupine Tree to Roskilde
2010-02-17
Yesterday we brought good news to rock fans with the announcement of Them Crooked Vultures. Today we continue the line of bands that establish Roskilde Festival as a mecca for fans of sparkling rock in all styles.

MOTÖRHEAD (UK) is an institution that bears comparison with the most established giants of hard rock, and radiator mascot cooler Lemmy just continues towards rock heaven while the fumes of whiskey and high-octane rock energy make his 64 years of age seem insignificant. "Ace of Spades" is the band's sig-tune but the straightforward rock hits queue up when Lemmy and his motor gang turn up the guitar, bass and drums. We are looking forward to welcoming back an ever-youthful band.

GALLOWS (UK) play gruff and uncompromising hardcore punk and have a singer whose violent stage performance is almost a guarantor of an intense concert experience. The British punk band visits Denmark for the first time at Roskilde Festival, and hard rock magazine Kerrang! hails the latest release Grey Britain as the best album of 2009 with its fierce riffs and black diagnosis of today.

PORCUPINE TREE (UK) is a hot request from a large, perhaps slightly overlooked group among Roskilde Festival's audience. The band's dark prog-rock enjoys enormous respect among both fans of the 70s music scene and metal fans – even if the band constantly renews its steadily growing catalogue with unpredictable steps in new directions. We are excited to finally present a hard-wearing rock band that has never cared for passing fads.

Killswitch Engage will continue touring
2010-02-17
New York, NY: Last week, it was announced that Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones had to unexpectedly leave the band’s current headlining tour, leading to a flurry of rumors and questions about the status of the tour and the band. The band has further issued the following statement addressing the matter, saying: “It became overwhelmingly obvious to all of us around Howard that he is in no condition to be on tour right now and that he needed to get off the road and get himself better. It’s a personal matter and while we understand everyone’s curiosity and concern for Howard and the band, we appreciate everyone respecting Howard’s privacy at this time.”

Longtime friend Phil Labonte of All That Remains was able to fill in and help out the band for a few shows and it appears as though he will be filling in for the remainder of the tour, which runs through March. KsE endured and survived a similar situation in the past, where guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz was forced to sit out a tour due to a back injury. KsE also said, “We seriously considered cancelling the tour since we don’t want to give fans that paid good money anything less than KsE at full-strength. But after trying a few shows with Phil, and after feeling the love and support that we were getting from the crowd, it became increasingly apparent to us that the shows came across as fun and unique, and the fans seemed to be enjoying it. We quickly realized that we had to keep going and that we couldn’t possibly stop.” Refunds are available for any fans that have already purchased tickets, but as the band said, this tour will offer a chance to experience KsE in a unique way that you won’t be able to witness again.

Furthermore, KsE would like to thank all fans who came out to support them during this difficult stretch, exclaiming “We really do feel that our fans are the best fans in the world.” The band also thanked Labonte for pitching in, saying “We can’t thank Phil enough for helping us out when we needed it the most.

Prosthetic releases Ov Hell in North America
2010-02-13
(Los Angeles-) Prosthetic Records will be releasing black metal super group OV HELL's debut full length, "The Underworld Regime," in North America via an agreement with Indie Recordings, on April 13th. This group of Satan's all-stars has been sharpening their teeth in some of black metal's most influential bands for many years. Known as key figures in bands such as Dimmu Borgir and Gorgorath, Shagrath and King have come together to bring forward a new chapter in Norwegian black metal history. OV HELL will carry on in the same tradition for which King and Shagrath are known, but the collaboration between the two will mark a new era for them both.

"The Underworld Regime" originally started off as what was to be a new Gorgorath album. After a lengthy legal dispute over the band's name, King and Gorgorath vocalist Gaahl took the album to be a God Seed release. Then Gaahl decided to leave the metal world, and Shagrath entered the picture to collaborate with King, and OV HELL was born.

The album was recorded at Earshot Studio with producer Herbrand Larsen and mastered at Living Room Studios by Espen Berg. Frost (Satyricon, 1349), Ice Dale (Enslaved, I, Audrey Horne, Trinacria, Demonaz) and Teloch (Nidingr, God Seed, 1349, Umoral) were recruited for work in the studio. The album combines the best from two worlds - King`s remarkable riffs and the distinguishable voice of Shagrath. The end result is a black metal album that contains all of the power and blast beats worthy of their evil pedigrees. Expect an assault on all false gods and hypocrisy that is of this world today.

King stated; "The album will contain a mixture of our different musical preferences and the personalities involved, which hopefully will lead to something original and new. Although I have to say though that I am more occupied of developing myself spiritually and musically than strive to be viewed as original by fans. This album contains music I've worked on in my Gorgoroth and God Seed years. It's been a little hell to actually see this music form into a band, so the name of the band is quite suitable. Through the first song I got from Shagrath I knew that he would be the perfect man to join forces with. He has strong individual qualities and a strong will to power. I am very positive that when we finish up this album it will be an album that won't sound like anything we have done before, and with a quality that won't stand back from anything presented in black metal earlier!"

"With both of our demanding music careers and other projects, timing was not on our side. After last year's Inferno Festival, King and I yet again joined forces to brainstorm our need to collaborate our passion for dark art. Over the course of the past year, King sent me demo ideas that were so inspiring it made me put my skeptic feelings aside. I wasn't sure if I wanted to have another Black Metal project but my unquenchable thirst to explore my darkest beast, launched the birth Ov HELL. The majestic Ov HELL has become a band that reflects our roots, raw, ugly, and arrogantly blasphemous with uncompromising truth from two influential Norwegian musicians needing to express our primitive side, straight out Ov HELL." - Shagrath
