Alice Cooper confirmed for Bloodstock
2011-11-11
BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR have announced their first headliner for next year’s event. Hot on the heels of his Welcome 2 My Nightmare tour, notorious shock rocker ALICE COOPER comes to CATTON HALL for his only UK festival appearance of 2012.

Unless you’ve had your head buried in the sand for the last five decades, the godfather of theatrical rock needs no introduction, and needless to say, organisers are delighted to have such a prolific and legendary artist join the BLOODSTOCK line up. Festival booker Vicky Gregory comments:

"As Bloodstock organisers but more importantly Huge fans of Alice Cooper, we are thrilled to have such an iconic artist close proceedings on the Sunday night! We have been after Alice for a number of years and are extremely excited to see him grace the Ronnie James Dio stage and guarantee this will be a performance not to be missed"

An ALICE COOPER concert is always a memorable event, and there are few artists out there capable of putting on such a thrillingly entertaining show. BLOODSTOCK attendees are in for quite a treat if the recent shows are anything to go by. From the moment he takes to the stage as a giant spider your senses are assaulted with fireworks, mock executions, simulated sex (with the dead of course), snakes, monsters and zombies, as ALICE delivers hit after hit from his decades long career.

With a back catalogue that includes timeless classic such as “Schools’s Out”, “No More Mr Nice Guy”, “Welcome To My Nightmare”, “Hey Stoopid”, “Feed My Frankenstein” and recent single “I’ll Bite Your Face Off”, ALICE’s set at BLOODSTOCK will be impossible to not enjoy, and will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the festival’s history for many years to come.

With a world class headliner already in place and two more to be announced - as well as over 100 bands from across the world of hard rock and metal - there is no festival offering better value, with four day weekend camping tickets available at just £90 if booked before 15th December.

Altar of Sin sign with Xtreem Music
2011-11-04
Spanish most infernal Thrash Metal warmachine ALTAR OF SIN, have inked a deal with XTREEM MUSIC for the release of their upcoming 2nd full length album which will be entitled"Tales of Carnage First Class".

After having released two CD's "Praising Evil" (their two EP's in one CD) in 2008 and "The Damned Dogs of Hell" in 2010, the band entered Fireworks Studios in September 2011 for the recording of what's undoubtely their finest work to date.

"Tales of Carnage First Class" is a true merciless massacre which combines both old school Thrash Metal and first-shape Death Metal blending influences from bands like SLAYER, POSSESSED, SODOM, SARCOFAGO, KREATOR... but with a relentless intensity that has crushes the listener ears til making them bleed!!

Cover artwork for this album has been created by Namtaru Creations and although there's not a fixed release date for this new opus, it's expected to show up during the first months of 2012 and will definitely become one the most furious and intense Thrash Metal releases of the year!!

Marduk to collaborate with Century Media
2011-11-04
One of the most important and legendary Black Metal bands and Century Media Records are joining forces to continue MARDUK’s own label Blooddawn Productions to spread the disease for the next decades.

Morgan Håkansson (owner of Blooddawn Productions, guitar player and founding member of Marduk, as well as bass player in Death Wolf) comments: “It’s with great pleasure that I can announce the cooperation between Marduk and Century Media as we enter into a long-term deal. After over 20 years as a band and the last 10 years on Regain Records we decided to march on. We have received an enormous amount of offers. But in the end we see Century Media as the best partner and best platform for us to operate from. Century Media has a strong foundation and the vision that we have been looking for. So from this November day Marduk as well as my label Blooddawn Productions including the band Death Wolf are in league with Century Media.”

Jens Prueter, Head Of A&R Century Media Records Europe: “We always had a soft spot for bands with a history: legendary bands like Celtic Frost, Napalm Death, Paradise Lost, Sick Of It All, etc. Bands that helped to define a whole genre and who haven’t been afraid to follow their own vision – with all consequences. Therefore I feel honored to announce the new worldwide cooperation between Century Media Records and Blooddawn Production. MARDUK released their groundbreaking demo 20 years ago and laid the foundation of Swedish Black Metal – so 2011 marks a historic anniversary to start with a new team to continue their path.”

MARDUK’s last album “Wormwood” was released in 2009 followed by extensive touring through North America (including the Blackest Of The Black tour with Danzig), Europe, Asia and South America . In December 2011 MARDUK will join the Hatefest Festival with Kataklysm and new labelmates Triptykon – including a stop-over at the X-Mas Metal Festival and Eindhoven Metal Meeting. Right after the tour MARDUK will begin the recording of their 12th studio album set for a spring 2012 release through Blooddawn/ Century Media.

Napalm Death release date revealed
2011-11-04
Leaders of the extreme, genre founders and one of the hardest working/touring bands out there, legendary NAPALM DEATH, are currently giving the final touch to their 14th studio album (excluding the cover album “Leaders Not Followers). The new piece of brutality is named “Utilitarian” and hits stores on February 27th ( USA February 28th) 2012, via the bands long time partner Century Media Records. The cover artwork perfectly fits the album theme and was done by the Danish artist Frode Sylthe, who also signed responsible for The Haunted`s amazing “Revolver” artwork.

Singer Mark “Barney” Greenway explains about the album title and concept: "After some deliberation, we have decided on “Utilitarian” as the album title. We generally try to avoid generic titles, and this seemed to have a lot of scope to it. I won't explain the full meaning of Utilitarianism here because it's an ethical theory, and as ethical theories go, the depth and debate around it is quite heavy at times. It has a certain 'morality' aspect to it and that isn't something that drives me, so I also certainly have issues with it. So, rather than just nail that straight to the mast, of course we wanted to put our own spin on it by suggesting that those (i.e. the utilitarian in us, perhaps) who try to challenge everything, or fight against conventions, well, we go through periods of real self-doubt where we wonder if we're really making a difference. I suppose the conclusion is that, for the sake of all our freedoms, you should never stop, as even the feeling of resistance is at least a signal to those who would like to entirely control and dominate us – meaning everything from our instinctive behavior to our human entitlement to walk the earth unprovoked. Regarding the album overall, the final creases should be ironed out fairly soon, and immediately after that we thought it would be good to top it off with a few UK dates. We’ve been playing one new song (“Quarantined”) out on a tour of Canada and it’s been well received, so we hope to perhaps throw in another one for now. Either way, we’ll be bouncing off the walls again near you very soon. Cheers all.”

NAPALM DEATH are already confirmed for the 2012 Wacken Open Air, Hellfest , Maryland Deathfest and many more. If you are an UK citizen, make sure to catch them on their year closing run in November/December and witness some of the new material live!

Unleashed recording new album
2011-11-04
The legendary Swedish Viking Death Metal band UNLEASHED have started the recordings of their 11th studio album.

The album name is still a secret - but you'd better get ready for another classic album.

With their blend of melody and brutality UNLEASHED includes to the founder of the viking death metal.

Their riffs are pure shrapnel, but their choruses are epic, melting uncompromising brutality with anthemic odes to the Odin.

The new album will be out in spring 2012 via Nuclear Blast.

Video for song "Maybe Tomorrow Never Arrives" tells a story about Nazi general responsible for killing people in concentration camps and a brave men that escaped his cruel hand. Cirith Ungol to release double album
2011-11-02
Ventura, CA's Cirith Ungol, one of the most underrated bands from the early 80s metal scene, released four albums between 1980 and 1991. Cirith Ungol's catalogue is being celebrated through the release of a collection of rare and live tracks on the 2 CD/1 DVD album, Servants of Chaos. Servants was originally released exclusively in Europe back in 2001 and has finally been pressed in North America and a DVD has been added to augment the already stellar collection of music. The DVD contains an entire, rarely seen live show, shot on November 9th, 1984 at the storied, and now defunct, Wolf & Rissmiller's Country Club in Reseda, CA. The CD/DVD will be available on January 31st, 2012 in North America and on triple vinyl in Europe on November 7th, 2011.

The name Cirith Ungol is pronounced "kirith ungol" and is an Elvish phrase meaning "pass of the spider", which is something that Lord of the Rings fans will surely recognize. The name is, of course, indicative of the band's fantasy-oriented lyrics, themes and beautiful album artwork.

The track listing for Servants of Chaos is massive and is a great introduction to the band's music. The release contains:

Bolt Thrower vinyl reissues are here
2011-11-02
On Janaury 17th, 2012, Metal Blade will re-issue the three BOLT THROWER albums Mercenary, Honour Valour Pride and Those Once Loyal on vinyl. All three albums are Gatefold LPs in coloured vinyl! Make sure to pre-order your copies ASAP since orders are going fast: http://www.metalblade.com/boltthrower. Metal Blade Records Europe released their versions on October 21st/24th, and can be ordered now!

BOLT THROWER comments on their 25th Anniversary: "Anniversaries are kind of easy to achieve. For a band, just don't split up and you'll reach one, whether it's 10, 20 or 35 years. And this year we've reached '25 years of not splitting up'!

We managed to stop others from making a big fuss about it, and didn't give in to the numerous offers and suggestions on how we should cash in on it! But it has made us appreciate the opportunities we've been given since 1986, and that we've been able to do everything we wanted to do without compromising in any way. We've been lucky enough to have played a lot of killer shows with great bands and met a lot of very cool people over the years, and we think that's the stuff that deserves some kind of celebration.

So, we want to organize a Bolty Birthday Bash, where we can reunite with some of these bands and invite you, the people who have supported us over the last 25 years. We were hoping to have everything worked out by now, but it turns out organizing a free show comes with its own unique problems, but we'll get there in the end! Well, that's all we can say for now, there will be more news to come soon, so keep checking back."

Loincloth sign with Southern Lord
2011-11-02
Riff-mangling instrumental/progressive act LOINCLOTH have inked a deal with Southern Lord Recordings for the release of their debut full-length, aptly dubbed Iron Balls of Steel on January 17th, 2012. Brooklyn Vegan are helping us spread the word like the plague this week by streaming two tracks from Iron Balls of Steel.

Formed following the demise of Raleigh, North Carolina-based death/doom act Confessor at the turn of the century, drummer Steve Shelton and guitarist Cary Rowells were recruited by Richmond, Virginia-area guitarists Tannon Penland (Kenmores, Koszonom) and Pen Rollings (Breadwinner, Honor Role, Butterglove). The LOINCLOTH lineup was now fully realized, and the madness began to unfold.

The idea behind the formation of LOINCLOTH was to create a band that focused only on the things that made the members' favorite form of music inspiring and powerful, steering clear of cliché formulas, and choosing instead to carve its name out sheer force of will. Punishing riffs and a mean rhythm section were all they were interested in; no acoustic parts, no pointless leads, no repetition and no vocals! To them, metal was getting punched in the face by sinister riffs while a tight rhythm section kicked them with counter-beats to the gut!

LOINCLOTH released their first four-song demo in 2003, which was met with immediate interest from Southern Lord Recordings. The 'Lord used two of the tracks from the demo, and with another track added, released the tracks as part of the 7" Of Doom series. Another track from the demo was included on a Swami Records Swami Sound System Vol 1 compilation that year as well.

With the current band lineup now a simplified power trio comprised of Penland, Shelton and Rowells, the first output from LOINCLOTH since 2003 will hit the streets in January, in the form of their first full-length, Iron Balls of Steel. Representing years of sifting through ideas, constantly crafting and reshaping riffs into no-nonsense metal brutality, the album serves as an offering to all who feel that metal allows for more freedom of expression than other forms of music. Metal accepts extremes. In fact, metal is nothing without extremes! To create pure metal you have to push yourself, and Loincloth meant to do just that. Iron Balls of Steel is about metal's promise to kick your ass, and LOINCLOTH is keeping that promise!

Stay tuned for further updates on LOINCLOTH and the final, confirmed release info for Iron Balls of Steel in the weeks ahead.

Arch Enemy team up with Amnesty once more
2011-11-02
Swedish Metal legend ARCH ENEMY have teamed up with the non-governmental Human Rights organisation Amnesty International for their upcoming “Khaos Over Europe” tour. The tour will kick off in Sweden on November 8th and brings the band back to the European clubs after playing many high profile festivals this summer as well as an extensive North American tour and a blistering show at the Loudpark Festival in Japan . Following up on the successful collaboration on the band’s recent North American tour, both parties are looking forward to spread the word about Amnesty International’s campaign “Expression Of Freedom”.

Amnesty International will be attending selected shows during the tour and will offer additional information for interested fans at the venues.

Angela Gossow comments: “We have Amnesty International with us again on the European leg of our ‘World Khaos’ tour to support their ‘Expression Of Freedom’ campaign and raise awareness. Many people sacrifice their lives to fight against terror, crime and oppression. They are being brutally murdered or imprisoned for simply communicating the truth. In honour of their outstanding courage and to bring justice to them (and the generations to come) it is important to support the cause and keep fighting for freedom! Each one of us can do something: Spread the word amongst your social network (sites), sign petitions, donate money, join peaceful demonstrations - pick your activism of choice! End repression. Allow expression!”

Jo Metcalf (Head of Art For Amnesty): “We’re thrilled that ARCH ENEMY are supporting our work on freedom of expression. We’re lucky to have the support of musicians and other artists who fully appreciate the value of being able to express their creativity without fear of arrest or worse. In some parts of the world, pursuing a creative goal - or just speaking freely - can lead to harassment, loss of freedom and even torture. I hope that everyone who comes to an ARCH ENEMY gig - not least to witness Arch Enemy’s amazing show - gets involved in supporting Amnesty’s work in this area.”
