Unearth enter studio
2011-01-20
"We wanted to let everyone know that tracking for the new album has officially begun! We're currently at Zing Studios in Westfield, MA tracking drums with our sit in drummer for the album Justin Foley of Killswitch Engage/Blood Has Been Shed. Foley was an obvious choice for this album for many reasons, but mainly because of his abilities and knowledge of heavy music as well as his long time friendship with the band. A decade plus of friendship has made this an easy transition for the band, Foley and our producer/engineer Adam D."

"In other news, we have decided to change the mixing engineer for the album to Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, White Chapel, Devil Driver, Trivium, etc.) from Audiohammer Studios. Mark is another long time friend of the band and we're excited to hear what he can do with our sound on record."

Guitarist Buz McGrath added this irrelevant comment about working with Mark, "Mark Lewis mixed me a drink once and I woke up in a swamp covered in anti freeze."

UNEARTH are aiming at a mid to late June release for the album followed by massive world touring.

Whitesnake is back
2011-01-20
WHITESNAKE, the legendary rock’n’roll legacy founded and formed by renowned singer/songwriter David Coverdale, unleashes a brand new storming ‘Snake statement, Forevermore on Frontiers Records on March 25th in Europe and March 29th in North America.

Their 11th studio album, Forevermore was recorded, produced and mixed by Coverdale, guitarist Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre at Snakebyte Studios and Grumblenott Studios & Villas in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, with additional work at Casa Dala, Sherman Oaks, CA, and WHITESNAKE will take to the road for a full world tour in support of the release.

Formed in 1977, and steered by the legendary Coverdale, WHITESNAKE carry a rightful reputation as one of the world’s leading rock’n’roll bands. Coverdale’s blues and soul roots, combined with a feral sense of rock and roll, have consistently shaped the ‘Snake’s sound, and add to that Coverdale’s love and appreciation of impeccable musicianship and you have a failsafe recipe for success.

Their ascent to the very top of the rock’n’roll tree was confirmed with 1987’s self-titled mega-platinum album, which saw two top 10 hits, two number one singles with ‘Here I Go Again’ and ‘Is This Love’ and a virtual 24 hour domination of MTV around the world. Such triumphs were surely foretold when as a young man from Saltburn-By-Sea, Coverdale enthusiastically answered the call to be Deep Purple’s singer. Such bombast, bravado, talent and passion have thus helped establish WHITESNAKE as the perennial platinum favorite they have become.

With Forevermore Coverdale has reignited an explosively fruitful vein of creativity with guitarist and co-writer/producer Aldrich, Reb Beach (Winger, Alice Cooper) on guitar, Briian Tichy (Ozzy, Billy Idol, Foreigner) on drums and Michael Devin (Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Lynch Mob) on bass, and as with all WHITESNAKE's albums, Coverdale aided so capably by Aldrich opens up his heart and soul to express emotions and empathy rarely heard these days in any musical genre.

More than simply their latest release, Forevermore represents WHITESNAKE's no holds barred, most heartfelt, melodic and musically muscular excursion for many a year.

The album’s release will be anticipated by the digital only release of the first single/videoclip “Love Will Set You Free” on February 21st.

Forevermore will be specially released on a “Snake Pack” edition for the first three weeks in England only. This very special release – arranged in conjunction with Future Publishing and Classic Rock magazine - will come with a collectors edition 132 pages deluxe magazine + A1 poster and metal pin badge and shall feature an exclusive cover art and 2 bonus live tracks “Slide It In” and “Cheap An’ Nasty” which will serve as an appetizer for the forthcoming “Live @ Donington 1990” to be released in the summer 2011.

The album will also be released on a double gatefold vinyl format, with deluxe special editions to be announced shortly.

This time Coverdale and Co. have really laid it on the line for their fans, and be sure of this, the Snake’s charms are going to convert a whole new army of believers… just watch.

Forevermore was produced by Los Bros Brutalos (David Coverdale, Doug Aldrich, Michael McIntyre) and will include the following songs:
Steal Your Heart Away; All Out Of Luck; Love Will Set You Free; Easier Said Than Done; Tell Me How; I Need You (Shine A Light); One Of These Days; Love And Treat Me Right; Dogs In The Street; Fare Thee Well; Whipping Boy Blues; My Evil Ways; Forevermore.

Womrot post Asian tour report
2011-01-20
Singapore grindcore trio WORMROT have just finished a mini-tour of South East Asia, which included the band's first ever time visiting Thailand and Vietnam - where the band was forced to play two songs for permit officers prior to the show, in order to be approved and allowed to perform.

Following their return home, WORMROT have written a tour blog to detail their unique experience, including being one of the first and only grindcore bands to play in Vietnam.

Some excerpts from the tour blog follow:

14 Jan 2011 - Johor Bahru, Malaysia
"The show in Embrace Hall was fucking awesome. There were some guys from Penang who took a 12 hours train ride just to see Wormrot! That was really touching and we really appreciate their support. Everyone seemed to have fun; moshing, dancing, stage dive, etc..."

15 Jan 2011 - Bangkok, Thailand
"It is our first time in Thailand so we didn't know what to expect from the crowd... Turns out to be a killer! Crazy, crazy Thai crowd!!! There were about 70+ people in total but it seemed like there were 100 people in there. Stomping the stage and dancing like they've been possessed! It was like a Thai Boxing competition!"

16 Jan 2011 - Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
"When we reached Ho Chi Minh City Airport at around 9.40am, the Security Police Officers checked our luggage. They would not let us through as we were carrying merchandise, especially CDs. One of them told me that he can let us go IF we gave them 3 of our Abuse CDs as there were 3 officers. We gave them the CDs and that settled everything. Hope they are into Grind coz I figured they might get heart attack when they listen to it.

"Again we did not expect anything much as it was also our 1st time in Vietnam. So, when the crowd went crazy during Wormrot's set, it was really mind-blowing for us as most of them were not Metalheads. Some even brought their kids for goodness sake! But all ended well with everyone being so supportive that there's nothing more we could ask for."

If you've ever wanted to hear WORMROT slowed down, check out a video of the band having to play two "mellowed" songs from their set list for event permit officers in Vietnam at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z2uunEs01k

As previously reported, Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie duets with EDEN’S CURSE front man Michael Eden on the epic “No Holy Man”, and the band have now confirmed that Helloween vocalist and former Pink Cream 69 singer Andi Deris will also duet with Eden on the bruising “Black Widow”, which is said to be the heaviest Curse tune to date. Nervecell announce new album title
2011-01-19
Middle Eastern extreme metallers Nervecell have made the following announcement:

It is with great pleasure to announce that we have set "PSYCHOGENOCIDE" as the title of our long-awaited new album, due for release late March 2011 in Europe through Lifeforce Records and Spellbind Records for the Middle East. The artwork has been a concept, which we have been working on for quite a while within the band and we are extremely proud of how it has turned out, perfectly matching the aggression and musical direction of the new album.

"PSYCHOGENOCIDE" is scheduled to be mixed and mastered at Hertz Studios (Behemoth, Decapitated, Vader) in Warsaw, Poland by the Wieslawscy Bros. This will mark the follow-up to our first full-length "Preaching Venom" which was released on October 26th 2009 on Lifeforce Records.

Kingdom Come to release new album
2011-01-19
It is not the success of the early days which Lenny Wolf associates Kingdom Come with, nor earlier hits from his long-standing career. What he really cares about is the present. Is this a contradiction in view of his new album Rendered Waters (out on 28 March 2011 in Europe, 25 March 2011 in Germany, and on 22 March 2011 in the US), which features eight old and three newly recorded songs? Certainly not. All eleven tracks were cut at Lenny’s Two Square Noise Factory studio in Hamburg, Germany. In particular, the new recordings of old material show Kingdom Come’s vision of living in the here and now. “I purposely chose tracks from the very early days to show how we play, hear and feel the songs nowadays,” says Wolf. “Listening habits have changed dramatically, especially among the younger audience, which made it exciting for me to breathe new life into numbers which have not been heard for a while.”

For example ‘Should I’, this time played more slowly giving it a heavier appeal. The drums are more open and the guitars, according to Lenny, feature a more tube-oriented sound and warmer, more driving tone: “Just to give it an overall 2011 vibe. Of course, you can only change songs to a certain extent if you don’t want to lose the character and central theme of the original version.” The same goes for ‘I’ve Been Trying’, ‘Pushing Hard’ and ‘Living Out Of Touch’. None of them has been reinvented, but all three certainly have a noticeably new approach to them. On the other hand, Lenny changed the verse of ‘I’ve Been Trying’ completely, giving it a different arrangement, just like he transported the song ‘Seventeen’ into the year 2011. “‘Seventeen’ has always been kind of a key song for Kingdom Come, yet it has never received much attention since it has a very non-commercial approach and is either loved or hated, but with the new version it will hopefully get the recognition it deserves.”

Another argument against suggestions that Lenny just wanted to warm up old material is that he purposely didn’t choose to re-record former hits like ‘Get It On’, ‘What Love Can Be’, ’Do you like it’ and ‘Twilight Cruiser’ which put Kingdom Come on the map on a global level. He even selected a song such as ‘Break Down The Wall’ from his pre-Kingdom Come days back in 1985 when he played with LA-based band Stone Fury, which just goes to show how timeless the material is. “It was very interesting to add new styles and to carry them into the year 2011. There are a number of songs from the Seventies. Their charm lives off the old recording technology which can’t be beaten these days and therefore should remain untouched, but re-recording Eighties songs isn’t such a sacrilege.”

Let’s not forget the three brand new songs, which feature that typical Kingdom Come structure of strong guitar hook lines and Wolf’s charismatic vocals. ‘Blue Trees’, ‘Is It Fair Enough’ and ‘Don’t Remember’ once again see Lenny prove his unwillingness to pander to expectations. Like it or not, he certainly follows his very own route. Although Lenny again recorded most of the instruments himself, Eric Förster, who contributed those ruthlessly driven guitar solos, and American-born Berlin resident Hanan Rubinstein, who mastered the CD, both certainly need to be mentioned for their great contribution.

To sum it up, here are a number of facts for history buffs: Kingdom Come were formed in 1987 in Los Angeles, USA. Besides Lenny, the only German in the group, there was also James Kottack, now playing drums with the Scorpions. The sensational debut Kingdom Come reached number 12 in the US charts, and its successor In Your Face made high chart positions all over the globe, too.
There is no end in sight. In Lenny's words: “Kingdom Come is my calling. I either fall or rise with it. Apart from a few bad decisions, I’ve done alright. Thankful and still fully loaded, back to the future.”

Watain wins Swedish Grammy award
2011-01-19
Shouting stars WATAIN just won the national Grammy Award in the Hard Rock category! The ceremony was held at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, Sweden, last Monday. Congratulations, guys!

Watain-grammy

Here is the full comment of frontman Erik Danielsson: "I always pictured the criteria for entering the Grammy awards to be those of mainstream music in general; conformity, insipidity and commercial potential. In other words, I was quite surprised when we even got nominated. But considering all the blood, sweat and tears we have put into this our life's mission during the past 13 years, it is by all means an award well deserved. And no matter what the parameters were by which the jury made their decision; the Devil won again!

"Even if this music genre will always be one with adversity and wildhearted insanity as its very roots, the artistic value must be acknowledged not only on an underground level but in any cultural circumstance, high or low. Acknowledged I say, not necessarily appreciated. And in a country like Sweden it is about fucking time, for here it has been neglected and stupefied by the mass media for years, while legends such as Dissection and Bathory have been writing and releasing some of the most monumental albums in music history. The Grammy that we have won with Watain is a step towards rectification in that matter, and a sign of that the artistry and infernal creativity that permeates Watain and this genre is being taken seriously. For that we are proud and delighted in accepting the award. As for its market value or importance in a "music industry context" we sincerely could not care less."

In their home country, WATAIN are also nominated for the P3 Gold Awards in the "Rock / Metal" category, and for the Manifest Awards in the "Rock" category, which ceremonies take place respectively on January 22nd and February 4th.

The album was produced by Fredrik Nordström at Fredman Studio, who made the following comment: "With this album Arkan excel in their art of mixing metal and Arabic music. The result is close to a masterpiece and these guys are its amazing conductors."

"Arabic music brings endless inspiration and with Salam we are only beginning", the band adds.

Well, that's for you to decide, I already know what I think, but what I will say is that this album will take no fucking prisoners, and that fans of Napalm Death, Entombed, Motorhead and Wolfbrigade are in for a real treat!"

Suffer Well sign with Century Media
2011-01-19
Sometimes some of the most creative music is derived from the combination of artists from different spectrums of the music world. One such band has undoubtedly created a sound for themselves and caught the attention of Century Media Records recently. Mick Kenney is a highly respected titan of vitriolic underground metal in the form of his legendary band ANAAL NATHRAKH and Brandan Schieppati is best known as the curator of BLEEDING THROUGH, one of the most aggressive and innovative American metal bands in recent memory.

Now these two virtuosos have teamed up to form SUFFER WELL (formerly Sorrows) and the result is a hammer-to-the-skull exercise in guitar coupled with live-wire electronics and topped off with both Schieppati's unmistakable bloody bark and a surprisingly melodic sensibility. The duo has inked a deal with Century Media Records, making sure that this truly epic LP will see a worldwide release in 2011. Fans have the opportunity to visit the official SUFFER WELL MySpace page for a chance to hear a brand new track, "Treachery" from the upcoming full length: http://www.myspace.com/sufferwell

"I wanted to stay away from what was 'expected'," says British native Kenney. "I wanted to create music that broke the rules and could not be described as falling into a particular genre. I wrote this from the heart." SUFFER WELL is already in rehearsal for what will be a busy touring schedule in 2011 alongside a live band that features former members of 18 Visions and Combichrist.

"SUFFER WELL has elements from both of our other bands but with its own identity and uniqueness," states Brandan. "I can't wait for people to hear and see what we've created."

New bands confirmed for Party.San Open Air
2011-01-19
TRIPTYKON - Raised from the ashes of Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, by mastermind Tom Gabriel Fischer himself, PARTY.SAN 2011 is proud and honored to announce the addition of TRIPTYKON to its expanding bill of bands. Hell literally broke loose with the release of the band's Eparistera Daimone debut. Pitch black and truly evil music for devoted fans of extreme metal.
http://www.myspace.com/triptykonofficial

GORGUTS from Canada recently joined the PARTY.SAN bill. A death metal dinosaur of sorts, the band formed in 1989 and, having survived a host of trends, tragedies and breakups, are still going strong today. GORGUTS will present to you a technical and extremely furious death metal show you will never forget. http://ww.myspace.com/gorgutsofficial

ENSLAVED are easily among Norway’s finest bands. The progressive black/Viking metal ensamble has remained dark and innovative for their two-decade-long existence and will bring their monolithic blackness to the PARTY.SAN 2011 stage. http://www.myspace.com/enslaved

EXHUMED - Excreting their malignant essence onto an unsuspecting metal scene back in 1998 with their confrontational debut, Gore Metal, EXHUMED have since become synonymous with the genre they helped brand. Their signature sound, a savage blend of snarling, grinding, down-tuned guitars, alternately abrasively screeched and grotesquely gurgled vocals, and pummeling, straightforward drumming, have become universally recognized as the hallmarks of the style now known as gore metal. To be more precise: EXHUMED are essentially the bastard Californian children of the great Carcass. See them live at PARTY.SAN! http://www.myspace.com/exhumed

CLITEATER - We are happy to announce the participation of dutch grinders CLITEATER at PARTY.SAN 2011. If you are a fan of Dead Infection, Necrony or Mortician, this band is for you. Expect a wave of grinding madness! These guys don’t exit the sateg without leaving a bloody mess. Grind deluxe!

Vanna studio update
2011-01-19
Artery Recordings are proud to announce the latest studio update from VANNA.

VANNA is recording with wunderkind producer/engineer Matt Goldman (MyChildren MyBride, Underoath, The Chariot, and Oceana) in Atlanta, Georgia.

Vocalist Davey Muise comments: “Matt has done some of our favorite records of all time, and he agreed to take on our band’s new journey. We all couldn't be happier. This new album is an outcry of self-expression, an angst driven response - it's our chance to be honest with our fans. Be real, be who you are, there's no point to being anything else.”

‘AND THEY CAME BARING BONES’ is the latest effort from Massachusetts’ VANNA, and promises to please the die-hard VANNA fans as well as bring new ones into the fold.
