Stratovarius to release new album in 2009
2008-10-23
Finnish melodic power metal legends Stratovarius are breaking the silence since guitar player Timo Tolkki left the band. They will return with a new studio album in 2009. It is a positive and powerful record that the band's fans all over the world are certain to take to their hearts.

"After Tolkki gave his blessing for us to go on without him, and after writing music together again this summer and a lot of thought, we have decided to carry the legacy of Stratovarius into the future", says Jens Johansson.

"We are all very excited about the record and about playing Stratovarius music live to our fans. We can't wait.", adds Timo Kotipelto.

The new guitar player is 25-year old Finnish guitar phantom Matias Kupiainen. Jörg Michael says, in Matias we found new character who fits perfectly with his way of melodic guitar shredding, he is a killer player, a 'Wunderkind' from Finland!"

The first two festival dates for 2009 have been confirmed already:

Wacken Rocks, Kreuth / Aurich, Germany, May 22, 2009
Wacken Rocks, Kreuth / Aurich, Germany, May 23, 2009

Stratovarius is:

Crown the Lost sign with Cruz Del Sur Music
2008-10-23
Pittsburgh melodic thrash metallers Crown The Lost have signed a worldwide deal with Italy-based Cruz del Sur Music for the release of their Blind Faith Loyalty album, set for a March 2009 release.

Commented guitarist David E. Gehlke: "Obviously, we're enthused to be working with such a reputable label like Cruz del Sur. We've heard plenty of good things about the label from both fellow bands and colleagues alike, so it was quite an easy decision to make. We look forward to finally getting Blind Faith Loyalty out and giving it the proper promotion it needs."

"I am very excited about releasing Crown The Lost's Blind Faith Loyalty," said label owner Enrico Leccese. "Few newcomers made such an impact on me as when I first heard CTL’s first self-released album, so I felt I had to follow the evolution of the band closely. Then came the first cuts from Blind Faith Loyalty and I was so blown away by their perfect balance between aggressive thrash metal and classic heavy metal that I felt the urge to offer them to be part of our roster. I am sure Blind Faith Loyalty will be one of the albums you'll remember on your 2009 best of the year lists."

The follow-up to 2006's critically-acclaimed Reverence Dies Within album, Blind Faith Loyalty expands upon Crown The Lost's intricate and memorable blend of progressively-tinged thrash and melodic metal, this time with a greater emphasis on vocal dynamics and instrumental breaks.

Blind Faith Loyalty tracklisting:
1. Defame the Hypocrites
2. Drawing the Parallel
3. Bound To Wrath
4. Symbiotic
5. Finality
6. Dreaming In Reverse
7. Privation
8. Impose Your Will
9. Hollow Refuge

Skeletonwitch announce new bassist
2008-10-21
Ohio’s sons of Midwestern darkness, SKELETONWITCH, are happy to announce the addition of bassist Evan Linger to the band. Linger, a long-time friend of the band entered the fold after the departure of Eric Harris. Evan has been out with THE WITCH since Oct. 2 when the pre-Danzig / Blackest of the Black dates kicked off.

"I'm stoked to be a part of SKELETONWITCH,” Linger says about joining the band. “I've been friends with these assholes for quite a long time so I have a pretty good idea of what I'm in for...a hangover!"

"We we would like to officially welcome our new bass player, Evan Linger, to SKELETONWITCH,” guitarist Nate Garnette states. “He's a bad-ass friend, a bad-ass player, and an all around bad-ass dude. Bad-ass!!”

THE WITCH has been tearing it up on the Blackest of The Black Tour with Danzig and Dimmu Borgir since early October, a tour that will take the package all the way to culmination in San Francisco on Nov. 10. Guitarist Scott Hedrick comments: “BLACKEST OF THE BLACK has been an amazing tour so far. All of the bands, crew, and Glenn himself, have been unbelievably killer! The atmosphere is great and everyone involved works together whether it's helping a band get on stage (i.e. we're sharing a lot of gear) or to party their ass off (i.e. we make Moonspell drink shitty American beer). It's a hell of a lot of fun. And on top of everything...we get to watch DANZIG devastate the stage every night. Truly fucking amazing!”

Continuing to support the band’s Prosthetic Records debut, ‘Beyond The Permafrost,’ SKELETONWITCH is already hard at work on music for the follow-up record. A video for “Sacrifice For The Slaughtergod” was recently completed with director Brian Wiebe earlier this fall and should be available at video outlets and online shortly.

Katatonia confirmed for Bloodstock
2008-10-21
The Bloodstock team are delighted to announce that Swedish goth metallers KATATONIA have been added to the bill for BOA 2009.

Katatonia were formed in Stockholm in 1991 by Jonas Renkse and Anders Blakkheim Nystrom and started life as a hybrid doom/death metal crossover before gradually shifting to a more mainstream atmospheric gothic/alternative rock sound, a move which began in earnest on their third album Discouraged Ones.

Having made a name for themselves on the underground with their Jhva Elohim Meth demo, the band released their debut album Dance of December Souls on No Fashion records in 1993. A period of line-up instability threatened the future of the band and it would not be until 1996 that their sophomore effort Brave Murder Day eventually appeared. Featuring guest vocals from Opeths Mikael kerfeldt, the album marked a further development in their sound and, like their debut, was a critically acclaimed success. Renkse was back on vocals for Discouraged Ones, adopting a clean singing style which, although a risky gamble, proved to be a major turning point and helped them reach a much wider audience.

At this point, the band signed a long term deal with UK label Peaceville and began a run of releases building on their signature style and culminating in 2006 The Great Cold Distance, their most dynamic work to date. Their eighth, as-yet-untitled studio album is expected later this year.

Woe of Tyrants announce album title
2008-10-16
Ohio’s Woe of Tyrants announce Kingdom of Might as the title of their upcoming Metal Blade Records debut. The album is set for a January 6th release and is one hell of a way to start the year in 2009! Head over to myspace.com/wot to check out the new myspace and hear the brand new track “Break the Fangs of the Wicked”!

Vocalist Chris Catanzaro talks about the lyrical themes of Kingdom of Might:

“While many of you have grown to expect highly abstract concepts for our songs and records, we've taken this album to a different style of writing that is a bit easier to digest lyrically than our previous work. The main theme, while Christian based in influence, barely goes into specific stories from the bible. I chose to write it this way due to the fact that we do not label ourselves a Christian band, and I by no means am here to tell anyone that I have the whole world figured out. This album is meant merely to express a respect for the force that can create everything we see, hear and digest. To encourage people to consider their lives, consider anything and everything, as opposed to just remaining lethargic. Upon doing so, it's my hope that someone might develop a peace with the truths in which they discover, and if nothing else find something within our record that leads them to improving their life as opposed to the common 'metal' message of destroying it. Kingdom of Might is our pride and joy musically, the culmination of hours and hours of work, so if nothing else, give it an honest listen! Much love!”

Nick D'Virgilio releases Genesis tribute CD
2008-10-15
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA – 15 September 2008 – Nashville-based recording engineer/producer and a Los Angeles-based performer have teamed up to create a unique twist on a classic Genesis album. This fall, Nick D'Virgilio of Spock's Beard fame and engineer/producer Mark Hornsby are re-recording the Genesis classic: The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, in it's entirety. Produced at Java Jive Studio in Nashville, the album features some of Music City’s best musicians, taking the songs in a whole new direction.

"We wanted to see what would happen if we exposed the songs to a different climate of musicians," says D'Virgilio, "The early Genesis recordings are so musical and very bluesy when you get right down to it. They really lend themselves to some different interpretations. When it came time to figure out what label to work with, I remembered working with Shawn on the Amaran’s Plight release and had been really pleased with how that all worked out and I knew what a big Genesis fan he is, so I’m glad it worked out." Nick is no stranger to Genesis as he performed on the prog legends latest release.

Although all of the original elements of the songs are still included such as drums, bass, guitar and piano, the recordings now take on a more "theatrical" vibe. This, coupled with orchestra, rock guitars, and some fantastic horn arrangements, the songs now enter an entirely different place.

"We had talked about doing something like this for awhile," says Hornsby, "With the recent attention our version of The Colony of Slippermen received, and the re-release of the original album in 5.1, the time seemed right to see what we could come up with. After the first conference call with Shawn, I felt really comfortable about working with him, and we all managed to make it work and realize the fruition of our vision."

"Genesis is one of my all time favorite bands and I spent many hours reading the lyrics and liner notes for The Lamb. Nick is one of my favorite drummers, and to combine these two elements in what is an amazing re-imaging of The Lamb is a fantastic thing to be part of," said Shawn Gordon, President of ProgRock Records.

"A Tribute to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" is the ProgRock Records debut release from Rewiring Genesis and can be found at www.progrockrecords.com/artists/view.php?id=104 or at your favorite online shop or brick and mortar reseller on November 4, 2008.

Voodoo Circle sign with AFM Records
2008-10-15
AFM Records is very pleased to announce the signing of Alex Beyrodt´s Voodoo Circle.
Alex is well-known throughout the Rock & Metal scene as the mastermind of Silent Force, former guitarist of Sinner and tour guitarist of Primal Fear. His exceptional compositions and instrumental skills secured him highest respect from other musicians and a strong worldwide fan base. In Japan, where quality is still the most important aspect when it comes to music, he is hailed as a "guitar hero" and fills the venues. Alex chose to walk in huge footsteps with Voodoo Circle, because the immense impact and influence that bands like Rainbow and Deep Purple had, are undeniable. But if there is just one German musician who can fill this big boots and arouse with new energy, we definitely talk about Alex Beyrodt.

Not to forget, it needs a special kind of stage presence, charisma and the ability to "let the guitar do the talking", so every listener can feel it deep down in his spine. Alex´ 60´s Strat guitar can give you exactly this - all in the tradition of the true heroes of Rock guitar.

Now Alex has founded a new band, that is deeply rooted in classic Hard Rock: Voodoo Circle. The band´s name will soon be known for first class musicianship and the ability to evoke pure magic. Here we have Alex Beyrodt (guitars), David Readman on vocals, Mel Gaynor (drums), Mat Sinner (bass) and Jimmy Kresic on keyboards.

"The legendary bands of the 70´s raised their best song ideas in extensive jam sessions and they possessed the gift to express something through the music. Nowadays this spirit seems to got lost somehow. Now I follow this "ideal" with Voodoo Circle. Back to vintage sounds, extensive jams of great musicians, sweaty live gigs and pure delight in playing."
-Alex Beyrodt-

These are the bringers of the "voodoo vibes:

Alex Beyrodt (guitars) -Silent Force, ex-Sinner
David Readman (vocals) - Pink Cream 69
Mat Sinner (bass) - Sinner, Primal Fear
Mel Gaynor (drums) - Simple Minds, Gary Moore, Brian May
Jimmy Kresic (keyboards)

Guest appearances on the album:
Doogie White (Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen)
Rudi Sarzo (Ozzy, Dio, Whitesnake)
Norifumu Shima (Concerto Moon)
Richard Andersson (Majestic, Space Odyssey)

On December 5th the self-titled debut album will finally be available. Fans of the "old masters" like Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Yngwie Malmsteeen and Deep Purple, but also supporters of Silent Force, Pink Cream 69 and Sinner will be amazed by this Hard Rock jewel.

Circle II Circle announce new guitarist
2008-10-15
We just received the following news from Circle II Circle:

It is with great pleasure that we can now announce that guitarist Bill Hudson (known from Power Quest, Cellador and The Supremacy a.o.) has joined Circle II Circle.

Circle II Circle commented: "We're sad about parting ways with Evan, but the addition of Bill into the band is gonna keep us going strong. We start our North American tour with Jon Oliva's Pain and Manticora September 20."

Bill Hudson had this to say about the situation: "I'm really stoked about being a part of Circle II Circle! I've been a fan of Zak since high school. We met last year when I played PROGPOWER USA and became great friends. Then, a few months later I met Mitch (Paul Michael Stewart) at the Nightmare Metal Festival in Florida and we, too, became friends right there. It's almost like this whole thing was meant to happen!" When asked about the upcoming tour with Manticora and JOP, he said, "It'll be great to see Zak Stevens and Jon Oliva on the same stage again, and I'm truly honored that I'll be a part of it!"

We hope that you, the fans, will welcome Bill with open arms, and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on our upcoming US-tour.

Squealer announce new drummer
2008-10-15
We just received the following news from the Squealer camp:

Dear friends, fans and media partners:

We have another new family member in:

Mr. Eike Thomas (a.o. Cloudburst) on the drums!

Besides being a brillant drummer (Eike passed the Professional Program at the famous Modern Music School and worked as a drum teacher in different music schools), Eike commenced to study musicology. Because of being a fanatical Rock and Metal fan, it was pretty easy for Eike to learn and memorize the Squealer material and he impressed the other band members right at the first rehearsal.

We are proud to welcome a highly motivated new bandmember and we are looking forward to write the new material and rock the stages together with Eike.

The first live gig with Eike on drums will take place at the "Metalfest 2008" in Friedewald (Germany) on October, 25th.

Cyclone Empire
Funebrarum sign with Cyclone Empire
2008-10-14
Again we are overall proud to welcome new blood!!!

The youngest member of our little family is the US-Underground-Death-Legend FUNEBRARUM.

Funebrarum was formed by guitarist Nick Orlando (EVOKEN) and vocalist Daryl Kahan (Abazagorath) in April of 1999, with the intention of creating dark, nihilistic, crushing, morbid death metal. With fellow Abazagorath and Evoken member Dario Derna filling in on drums, the band recorded their debut demo "Triumphant Ascent" later that same year. Though the sound quality of the rushed recording was extremely crude, the material was well received by the underground metal hordes. The core line-up was solidified with the addition of Abazagorath bassist David Wagner providing the destructive low end. The first complete line-up was finalized with the addition of drummer Brian Jimenez.

In October 2000, the four-piece would begin recording their second demo "Tombs of Sleeping Darkness", after which Jimenez would part ways with the band. In July 2002, long time friend Roy Fox would release a remixed, remastered version of the demo under the title "Beneath the Columns of Abandoned Gods" on his label, Necroharmonic Productions. The release would receive international praise, with Unrestrained Magazine hailing Funebrarum as the "cure old-school death metal fans have been anticipating." (link)

From the end of the "Tombs of Sleeping Darkness" sessions, the lack of a drummer kept the band inactive, and they nearly disbanded. In 2003, with the help of session drummer Justin DeTorre, they re-recorded material for their next official release, the 7" EP "Dormant Hallucination," for Midnight 666 Records. Again Funebrarum received glowing praise. Metal Side Zine called the band the "masters of old school death metal." (link) The following year "Beneath the Columns of Abandoned Gods" would be reissued by Necroharmonic Records.

Enter 2005 and a new era for Funebrarum. The band returned from the lingering realms of death with the addition of drummer Shaun Eldritch. Finally able to move forward, the band began creating their first new material in 4 years. The line-up was completed when Matt Medeiros (Kalopsia) joined the band on lead guitar. Now more powerful than ever, the latest incarnation of Funebrarum is forging an even more potent, devastating version of their trademark pestilential, necrotic, old-school death metal.

In 2006 Funebrarum released a split cd with the Swedish Interment on Conqueror of Thorns Records.

With the new material for the second longplayer ‘The Sleep Of Morbid Dreams’ they suddenly got the attention of Cyclone Empire where the band finally signed a contract that sealed the apocalyptic return of the MASTERS OF TRUE DEATH METAL!!!

’The Sleep Of Morbid Dreams’ (schedule for a release early 2009) will raise much dust and hit the scene like a mighty bomb...HELL-ELUJAH!!!

Line-Up:
DK - Vocals
Nick Orlando - Guitar
Dave Wagner - Bass
Shawn Eldridge - Drums
