Holy Grail enter studio
2010-02-06
Los Angeles rising star metal quintet Holy Grail will head in to the studio this month to record their debut album, CRISIS IN UTOPIA, due out on Prosthetic Records in late Spring. Acclaimed producer/remixer/musician Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle) will be at the production helm.

Previously known as Sorcerer, Holy Grail features members from a former line-up of White Wizzard. Assembled less than a year ago, Holy Grail is already at the forefront of the new wave of metal that pays homage to such legends as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Dio. The band's debut EP IMPROPER BURIAL (released in late 2009), featuring just two original tracks and two covers, has earned Holy Grail significant press accolades including a 2-page feature in hometown paper LA Weekly, a spot on Decibel's "25 Most Anticipated Releases Of 2010" list and inclusion on Metal Hammer's "Guide To The Best In The Upcoming New Wave Of Trad Metal". In its short career, the band has already toured with the likes of 3 Inches Of Blood and Saviours (in support of IMPROPER BURIAL) and is confirmed a number of major metal festivals this summer.

With monster vocals, not one, but two guitar virtuosos and a thundering rhythm section, Holy Grail's sound is at once classic, yet contemporary, encompassing the best of traditional metal with a youthful spirit. Holy Grail is James Paul Luna (vocals), Eli Santana (guitar), James J. LaRue (guitar), Blake Mount (bass) and Tyler Meahl (drums).

Alice In Chains announce charity auction
2010-02-06
At the beginning of this year's NFL season, hard-core NFL fan Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains recruited some fellow heavy metal musicians and friends to take part in his other passion, FANTASY FOOTBALL. Besides Jerry, the league’s lineup consisted of Duff Mckagan of G 'N' R and Velvet Revolver, Mike Inez of Alice In Chains, Zakk Wylde of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Label Society, Vinnie Paul of Pantera and Hellyeah, Scott Ian of Anthrax, guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd, drummer Kenny Aronoff, former NFL player Matt Willig and ESPN's Talented Mr. Roto, Matthew Berry. Each participant donated an item for online auction, and all of the proceeds go to the charity chosen by the champion of the fantasy league.

Now, with the Alice In Chains & Friends Fantasy Football Season officially over and Matt Willig declared winner, it is time for each participant’s item to be auctioned off for the benefit of Matt’s chosen charity: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 100% of the money raised from these auctions will go towards St. Jude, which works to find cures for children with catastrophic illnesses through research and treatment.

Dark Funeral cancel festival appearance
2010-02-06
Ave to all you Czech Dark Funeral fans out there!

With deep regrets I have to inform you, that we have to cancel Dark Funerals appearance at the Metalgate Festival 2010.

After the rip off with that Unholy Fest in 2009 that probably all of you know about, it's even more disappointing to be unable to give you the band you are looking for for a festival show this summer.

As well as the guys in Dark Funeral, I'm a man who means yes, if he says yes! Only this time I stumbled over my own feet - meaning, that I confirmed the Dark Funeral tourshow on April 4th at the Masters of Rock Café in Zlin as exclusive (!) show for Czech Republic! A few weeks after that I agreed with the Metalgate Festival on Dark Funerals appearance for 2010. In the meatime I had simply forgotten the other deal I made before...

When the Metalgate billing was announced recently, I was reminded on our exlusive agreement by Pragokoncert, who are promoting the show in Zlin. So now I simply have no other chance than to stick to my first word. And that means, to take Dark Funeral off the bill of Metalgate 2010.

I'm human. I make mistakes. Unfortunately!

I'm already working together with the great guys in the Metalgate team to get another band as replacement for Dark Funeral. And apart from that, Dark Funeral are ready to play the Metalgate in 2011. This is something we will talk about, once a replacement band is found. This part has priority now!

Please take my apologize, and don't blame either Dark Funeral or the festival promoters, as they have nothing to do with this! I have to add, that band and promoter both reacted more than cool on this desastrous situation. Respect for that!

So please come and see Dark Funeral in Zlin on April 4th and see them again, hopefully at the Metalgate in 2011.

And by the way - and without doubt: german beer is not the best, czech beer is by far much better! ;)

Kick ass!

Madam Adam sign with Roadrunner Records
2010-02-04
New York, NY: Roadrunner Records is pleased to announce the signing of Charleston, South Carolina rock band MADAM ADAM. The band is currently finishing up the recording of their as-yet untitled Roadrunner debut in Nashville, Tennessee, where they are working with producer/mixer Skidd Mills (Saving Abel, Saliva, Skillet, Sick Puppies.) Roadrunner expects to release the album in summer of 2010, and the band will be announcing some Southeast tour dates shortly.

The band - vocalist/guitarist Scott Gould, bassist Kenny Varner, guitarist Drew Reindollar and drummer Matthew Reindollar - has posted webisodes from the studio sessions on their MySpace page, which are viewable here.

Roadrunner Senior VP of A&R Ron Burman commented about the signing, saying, "I'm really excited to be working with Madam Adam. They have really catchy rock songs, the kind that I grew up listening to on rock radio. Madam Adam write songs that stick in your head after one listen, which is rare. The singer, Scott, has a great voice and they are an exceptionally good live band."

"We're grateful for the opportunity to work with Ron Burman and the staff at Roadrunner -- to have such an accomplished team behind us is that dream every kid with a guitar hopes becomes a reality," Gould said. "Last week, we laid the final tracks to the debut, thanks in part to producer Skidd 'The Wizard' Mills and at the moment we're describing it as Casablanca starring Conan the Barbarian."

Halcyon Way complete new album
2010-02-04
Halcyon Way complete tracking for new album Atlanta progressive metal band Halcyon Way has completed the tracking for their new CD, to be released late Spring by Nightmare Records.

The album was produced by Lasse Lammert (Alestorm, Svartsot) and guitarist Jon Bodan. Drums were engineered by Mike Froedge (doubleDrive, Bloodsimple, Speed X) at Open Sky Studios in Atlanta. Lammert is mixing the album at his studio, LSD-Tonstudio in Germany. The new release is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut by the band, A Manifesto For Domination. It features the debut of new vocalist Steve Braun (Ashent, Siloam), as well as a guest appearance by Pamela Moore of Queensryche fame. “We’re incredibly excited about the new material,” said guitarist Jon Bodan. “This album is a quantum leap forward for Halcyon Way – the material is both heavier and more aggressive, but it also is far catchier and more melodic at the same time than Manifesto. The guys in the band all stepped their individual games up, and the material is better for it. Lasse did a great job on the production, and we expect the mixdown and mastering process to be completed by the end of February.”

Halcyon Way has appeared live with many bands such as Helloween, Strapping Young Lad, TYR, Kamelot, Symphony X, Doro Pesch, Cathedral, Virgin Black, Samael, Vicious Rumors, Seven Witches, and many others. In addition they have appeared at ProgPower USA on two occasions, and at Rocklahoma 2008 and 2009.

Trivium announce new drummer
2010-02-04
New York, NY: Florida metallers TRIVIUM are pleased to announce Nick Augusto as their new permanent drummer. Augusto was introduced to Trivium fans when he filled in behind the kit on last fall’s “Into the Mouth of Hell We Tour” trek. He is now stepping in to permanently replace the departing Travis Smith.

Vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy commented, “We’re really happy to have our good friend and fellow Floridian Nick Augusto join the Trivium family. Nick’s drumming is very technical and diverse and he brings a real intense energy to the band and we can’t wait for everyone to hear the new song, ‘Shattering the Skies Above,” that we just recorded with Nick. I think it’s the best Trivium recording we’ve ever done; it’s raw, full of energy and I think Nick’s drumming really pushed us to a new level.”

The always industrious Trivium are wasting no time in the wake of this line up shift and are staying busy as they work their new skinsman into the fold. The band has recorded two brand new tracks: the aforementioned “Shattering the Skies Above” will appear on the forthcoming, digital-only God of War Blood & Metal EP, as well as a cover of Sepultura’s “Slave New World.” Video footage of the band and their new drummer recording “Shattering the Skies Above” is viewable right below.

The band will also head right back out on the road, embarking on a tour of Asia, New Zealand, Australia and the UK, which kicks off February 11, in Jakarta, Indonesia and runs through March 24 in England. This will be the band’s final tour dates in support of 2008’s Shogun. Once the tour ends, the band will head back to the studio to work on their next album for Roadrunner Records.

Ratt announce release date
2010-02-04
New York, NY: It’s no secret that RATT are back and raring to go. The band is proud to announce April 20, 2010 as the release date for their Loud & Proud/Roadrunner debut, Infestation, an 11-song opus that is their first studio record in 11 years. The first single, “Best of Me,” is scheduled to impact rock radio on February 21. The song is available at all digital stores.

There’s been a flurry of activity in the Ratt camp in the past few years. Vocalist Stephen Pearcy has returned to the fold and the band has since signed to Loud & Proud/Roadrunner. The legendary Los Angeles rock squad, also featuring guitarist Warren DeMartini, drummer Bobby Blotzer, bassist Robbie Crane and new guitarist Carlos Cavazo, engineered Hollywood’s much-heralded Sunset Strip sound in the 1980s.

“We wanted this to be like something that we would have written right after [1984’s] Out of the Cellar,” Pearcy said. “We definitely went back to basics with the mindset of a band with a lot of excitement and some great songs to get out.” Infestation was produced by Elvis Baskette (Chevelle, Alter Bridge.) in the helmer’s Virginia studio, marking the first time the band has recorded outside of Los Angeles. The album is full of attitude and of reflection, cycling through a range of emotions. There are party anthems that Ratt are known for alongside more contemplative, thoughtful tunes.

The track listing for the album is as follows:

“Eat Me Up Alive”
“Best of Me”
“A Little Too Much”
“Look Out Below”
“Last Call”
“Lost Weekend”
“As Good as it Gets”
“Garden of Eden”
“Take a Big Bite”
“Take Me Home”
“Don’t Let Go”

Killing Addiction to release new album
2010-02-04
Florida's heaviest Death Metal legend KILLING ADDICTION are about to see, 16 years after their latest release, a new CD coming out on XTREEM MUSIC!! "Fall of the Archetypes" includes 6 new songs plus 5 bonus which are the ones featured on that mega-rare split cassette release in 1994 under the name of "Dark Tomorrow". Both recordings makes a 11-song full-length release that will serve as a perfect link from their old and new stuff, pretty much in the same vein, but with way better performance and production.

KILLING ADDICTION plays a fucking heavy and brutal Death Metal blending elements that could remind to bands like SUFFOCATION, CARCASS, INCANTATION, BOLT THROWER, MORBID ANGEL... creating a unique sound that has characterized the band's style since their inception in 1988.

Later on, still undetermined, the band will see their debut album "Omega Factor" ('93) re-issued, also through XTREEM MUSIC, along with their previous "Necrosphere" [7"EP/'91] & "Legacies of Terror" [Demo '90] as bonus.

Release schedule for "Fall of the Archetypes" is planned for the first days of March 2010. In the meantime, please visit the band's official MySpace to listen a couple of new songs at: www.myspace.com/killingaddiction

Norwegian black metal news
2010-02-04
Misantrof ANTIRecords, the self-styled “Anti” label founded and headed by CARPATHIAN FOREST bass player Daniel Vrangsinn, has branched out into the field of vinyl with the release of TÖXIK DEATH’s ”Happy Fukking Holocaust” in a 12”collectors gatefold limited edition. Track listing for the six-track album as follows:

Side Fukk
Fukking Whore
Die Poser Die
Human Trash
Side Holocaust
Sergeant of the Wasteland
Töxik Death
You Will Fukking Die

Based in Stavanger, Norway, and playing punked-up thrash metal with elements of old school death and some black metal, TÖXIK DEATH sprang to life in 2003 when guitaris Anders Thrashöle and vocalist Mikael Vomit started the band. With the addition of Alf Morten Taaken on drums and Thomas Rodriguez on bass in 2006, the band recorded a demo and started to play gigs around Norway. The following year TÖXIK DEATH came into contact with Daniel Vrangsinn, a meeting that was eventually to lead to the release of ”Happy Fukking Holocaust” on Misantrof, whose policy it is to make all its releases available for free download. The EP proved so popular that it was decided to make it Misantrof’s first release on vinyl. Originally recorded at L54 studios by Arvid Tjelta, the vinyl version was mastered by Vrangsinn.

TÖXIK DEATH are currently looking for a permanent drummer to replace the recently departed Taaken, and work has begun on the band’s first full-length album. Session drums on the album, which will be titled ”Speed. Metal. Punx”, will be provided by Anders Kobro (CARPATHIAN FOREST, DEN SAAKALDTE, NEONGOD, IN THE WOODS). More information about TÖXIK DEATH can be found on the band’s MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/toxikdeath.

TDB Records announce new signings
2010-02-04
TDB Records head honcho (and Ramming Speed sticksman) Jonah Livingston checked with an update on three exciting new additions to the label's already stacked roster:

"For the last few years the TDB roster has been branching out far from our Boston locale, welcoming California's Litany For the Whale, Germany's Perth Express, and the Texans in Die Young. As wonderful as it's been spreading our wings to work with bands further and further from our home, I am very proud to announce that we are finally returning to the city that got us started. Sometimes what you're looking for is right under your nose and in the last month or so we've confirmed releases for three incredibly talented local bands.

First up are the boys and girl of PHANTOM GLUE. Pilfering the heavy from seminal acts like Electric Wizard and High On Fire, and the wailing guitars of Pentagram, these four shacked up with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Doomriders, Torche) at Godcity last year to record a colossal debut full length. With mastering by Nick Z (New Alliance East) and hand painted artwork by artist and guitar player Matt Oates, this self titled record is scheduled for an April release. Those in the New England area can catch the band opening for Coalesce and Harvey Milk in March.

Our second release on its way to the plant will be the debut EP by Boston's CHOKE UP. A surprisingly mature, epic, and emotive hardcore recording, this EP will strike a chord with fans of Against Me, Small Brown Bike and At The Drive In. These four high school friends from just north of Boston hit the studio in late in '09 at Andrews Lane Recording (Maintain, The Effort). The organic recording lends the instruments a lush and thick sound, though the songs are played with a true sense of urgency lost in much of the melodic hardcore scene. Look for a March release date on CD and April for digital.

Heading into the studio in mid-February as the third in the triumvirate of Boston brutality, are the down-tuned chaotic hardcore trio FURNACE. Anyone bummed that Ed Gein dropped off the map a few years ago or who wishes Converge could still play basement shows will have a permanent boner for these Boston via New Hampshire transplants. Crunched into two minute songs are technically adept, catchy and chaotic riffs surrounded by blistering drums and thick distorted bass. Furnace will sit you down and make you headbang, smoke weed and consider killing everyone around you, all with a smile on their bearded faces."

Order of Ennead to film video
2010-02-02
Floridian extreme metallers, ORDER OF ENNEAD will film a new music video during the middle of this month for "The Concept of Our Existence," the ripping opening track off of their upcoming sophomore release, AN EXAMINATION OF BEING. The video plans to match the great intensity and large complexities of the song. Considering that ORDER OF ENNEAD is one of the deepest and most thoughtful metal acts around, that is no easy task. Perhaps that is why vocalist/guitarist, Kevin Quirion and his Largo, FL-based company, Advanced Media will handle all directorial and production duties for the shoot. Knowing the great care that Quirion takes with his work, the video will undoubtedly let the viewer experience the song on a much heightened level - the way it was meant to be experienced.

Kevin Quirion remarks on "The Concept of Our Extinction:"

"Can't wait to get started on the filming of our first video. I've been working on a very detailed treatment for the video this past week. The idea of the song and video is man's struggle to understand his own existence and the eventual acceptance of mortality. This is an on going lyrical theme throughout the album. We're going capture this visually and make it really special."

ORDER OF ENNEAD recently finished recording their next album, AN EXAMINATION OF BEING with producer, Mark Lewis (TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, ALL THAT REMAINS) at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, FL. The album is due for release on April 20th.

Here is the track listing for AN EXAMINATION OF BEING:

01. The Concept of Our Extinction
02. The Scriptures of Purification
03. Lies Upon the Lips of Judas
04. This Mortal Journey
05. ...In the Mirror
06. An Examination of Being
07. Conduits to Eternity
08. A Portal to Rapture
09. A Betrayal of Self

ORDER OF ENNEAD lead guitarist John Li comments: "So what can I say about this new album? In my honest opinion, it's much heavier and darker than our self-titled debut, more cohesive, thematic, melodic, but not completely over the top. In a nutshell, the works. To me, the songs sound totally different than the demos and I was blown away after the songs began to take form. They sound BIG."

The Ocean announce album title
2010-02-02
The Oceans upcoming albums are going to be entitled Heliocentric and Anthropocentric. They are due for April and October 2010 releases.

The concept at the base of both albums is a critique of Christianity from different philosophical and personal angles.

While the songs, art and lyrics of Heliocentric tell the story of the rise of the heliocentric world view and its effects on Christian belief from medieval times to Darwin and Dawkins, "Anthropocentric" challenges the views of creationists and other modern fundamentalists who still believe that the earth is at the center of the universe.

The tracklisting of Heliocentric is as follows:

1. Shamayim
2. Firmament
3. The First Commandment of the Luminaries
4. Ptolemy Was Wrong
5. Metaphysics of the Hangman
6. Catharsis of a Heretic
7. Swallowed by the Earth
8. Epiphany
9. The Origin of Species
10. The Origin of God

Musically, Heliocentric covers the largest range of dynamics and styles to date: "There are a few really calm songs with mainly piano and vocals, as well as some crushing heavy tunes. There is a very special atmosphere to it that pervades the album", comments guitarist Jonathan Nido.

"Our new vocalist Loic Rossetti has immensely widenened the musical spectrum of this band and there are some songs on the album that even those people who have conceived of this band as being unpredictable and daring would have never imagined", adds Robin Staps. "But this is exactly what makes it a 150% The Ocean album".

Heliocentric" continues where the Proterozoic half of the Precambrian album left off, with dense, epic songs and big orchestrations. Anthropocentric is going to be a bit more straight forward rocking and technical, whilst tapping the full dynamic range from acoustic pieces to eclectic heaviness as well.

The albums were mainly recorded in the mountainous isolation of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, the highest city of Europe. The band decided to record and mix the album with the band's house sound engineer Julien Fehlmann: "We wanted to be in control of every single detail, and we have an amazing studio at hand here. Soundwise this is by far the best-sounding album we have done to date".

Arranged Chaos sign with Apollon Records
2010-02-02
The German Metalcore Band ARRANGED CHAOS has inked a deal with the Netherlands based label Apollon Records, who is set to release the band’s first full-length album “As Time Goes Bye” in late spring of this year.

Founded in Leipzig, Germany, in the autumn of 2005 by drummer Patrick Küffner, guitarist Philipp Küffner, and then-bass player Ricardo, the band started life as GODFACE, and underwent the obligatory name and line up changes that most bands are subjected to, before settling on the name ARRANGED CHAOS. Guitarist Claudius Herbst joined the band following a jam session, and on his recommendation Felix Kießig (BLUTROT) was quickly added as vocalist. Encouraged by a rapidly growing and very enthusiastic fan base, ARRANGED CHAOS continued to work on new material, and the first demo “Unleashed” appeared in July 2008.

For the past year and a half ARRANGED CHAOS has concentrated on perfecting both the band’s own Metalcore sound and its stage presence, with a series of live performances, and participation in a number of national and international contests which saw the band consistently appear amongst the best finalists - an unusual feat for such an extreme metal band.. Johannes Richter (NITROLYT (R.I.P.), MSL-BIGBAND) replaced the outgoing Ricardo on bass, and the current line up was completed in September of 2009.
