More Vallenfyre details revealed

As announced last week, the UK Death Metal band VALLENFYRE signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records. The band just released the “Desecration / Iconoclast” 7” on Imperium Productions and you can listen to samples of both songs on www.vallenfyre.com where you can also find a link to order one of the last few copies of the 7” which is limited to 500 copies. We can already guarantee that at least the b-side “Iconoclast” won’t be released anywhere else in the near future. VALLENFYRE is the brainchild of Gregor Mackintosh, songwriter and guitarist of PARADISE LOST, along with members of MY DYING BRIDE, AT THE GATES and DOOM. We didn't announce all the details in the first news piece because we wanted you to judge the songs on their own merit and not be biased either way. And it looks like most of you liked what they heard on the band’s website.

The sound of VALLENFYRE goes back to Greg’s youth: “I was first introduced to more extreme music by my older brother in 1981. Over the next few years in my early teens I grew to love various early hardcore punk bands like Discharge, English Dogs, Conflict etc. Around a similar time I was becoming aware of other more metal music like Motörhead and Black Sabbath. In '84/85' I got into bands who were fusing these styles like Hellhammer, Antisect and Amebix. A couple of years later I started tape trading with people all around the world which enabled me to hear lots of really cool, interesting, extreme music. Autopsy, Napalm Death, Morbid Angel, Repulsion, Nihilist are some of the more well known names I started to get into but there were many many more which never gained the same notoriety. At the same time I formed Paradise Lost with my friends. Our early stuff was a bit of a mixture of all this stuff but we also had a lot of doom influence from the likes of Candlemass, Trouble and St Vitus.”

The events that led to the conception and formation of VALLENFYRE are not particularly happy or pretty ones: “In the late summer of 2009, my father John Mackintosh was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Later in the Autumn as his treatment progressed, Paradise Lost embarked on the their European tour to support the latest album [Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us]. A week into this, I received a call from my mother telling me that the doctors had found cancer in his lungs and it was terminal. He only had weeks to live. I made the decision to leave the tour leaving my very able guitar tech Milly [not be confused with Vallenfyre’s Mully] to take my place. I went and stayed with my parents for the next few weeks. After a very sad and painful time he passed away on the 2nd December early in the morning. Over the next few weeks I experienced all the famous stages of grief. It started to become very self destructive so I decided to channel it into creating something. To pay respects to the man that drove us to our very first gigs because none of us could drive. The only Dad I knew that listened to Bolt Thrower’s Peel Sessions on the radio. The guy who gave me my first chord book. I decided that I was going to go right back to the beginning. To my roots in Death, Crust and Doom. It all started very Angst ridden. This wasn't originally meant for anyone else to hear. It was a release. After recording some material I realized that I was actually enjoying doing this but I wanted friends involved so it could actually become real fun.”

The 7” tracks and the upcoming album were recorded between December 2010 and April 2011.

Greg: “The album is called "A Fragile King" which is a reference to my fathers' battle with cancer. The lyrics are predominantly about the same thing but also include gripes with society, religion, politics and relationships as well. It's all pretty grim.“

The VALLENFYRE debut album “A Fragile King“ will be released on October 31st, 2011 in Europe and on November 1st, 2011 in North America through Century Media Records. VALLENFYRE is not a one-off project but will continue as a band that will also play live in 2012. Stay tuned for more background information.

Firewind announce temporary singer

FIREWIND front man Apollo Papathanasio has been forced to miss the band’s imminent European tour due to family issues. Apollo will be back with FIREWIND for their North American “Frets Of Fury” tourdates in October. Apollo’s replacement for the European “Defiance Over Europe” dates is the hugely talented singer Mats Leven (Therion, Yngwie Malmsteen).

FIREWIND’s European tour starts out next week on September 9th in the UK and will additionally cover The Netherlands, Belgium , Germany , Austria , Italy and France with support coming from Swedish metallers and labelmates Wolf. Clawfinger bassist to tour with Pain

PAIN bass player Johan Husgafvel sits out the 25 show long European leg of the tour due to family reasons. Johan will be replaced by Andre Skaug from CLAWFINGER who earlier filled in as a bass player in PAIN (2007).

Johan commented:
"The fortcoming PAIN tour is just about to start and I'm completely sure that all of the shows will be absolute killer!!! Unfortunately, I've decided to sit out this tour due to family reasons. I won't be able to do the European 4-week-run, but I’m really looking forward to do the first and last leg of the tour, the Swedish and Finish tour dates. So to all of you I don’t get to see this year, we’ll make it up on the festivals next year! Take care!”

Rush sign with Roadrunner Records

ROADRUNNER RECORDS is pleased to announce a new worldwide partnership with Anthem Records and rock trio RUSH. The band will remain on Anthem/Universal Music in Canada only.

“We have tremendous respect for Roadrunner Records, and what Cees Wessels and Jonas Nachsin have built on a worldwide level. After years of Roadrunner pursuing the band, Tom Lipsky presented a deal that worked and the timing was right. We wanted to be at a label focused on the rock genre – and that’s Roadrunner,” said Ray Danniels, manager of Rush.

“In another life I worked with Rush and their great management team more than 30 years ago and to have Rush finally on the Roadrunner label is a dream come true. I am grateful for Ray Danniels’ confidence in this new partnership,” said Cees Wessels, Roadrunner Records Chairman.

“Rush has a tradition of excellence and independence, both in the studio and on the live stage, and they remain as prolific today as at any point in their career. We are excited to be their label partners,” said Tom Lipsky, President of Lipsky Music, LLC, who brokered the significant deal for Roadrunner.

The first release from RUSH through this deal will be various live configurations, recorded during their highly successful Time Machine tour that wrapped earlier this summer. Details of the release will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Melechesh announce temporary guitarist

Sumerian black/thrash kings MELECHESH are gearing to hit the road as part of the "Lux Mundi" European tour with SAMAEL and KEEP OF KALESSIN as well some interesting opening bands depending on the tour dates.

Aethyris, former ABSU and current PANTHEON I guitarist, will be covering for Moloch due to Moloch’s PHD commitments. Moloch and Aethyris spent many weeks meticulously going through the material .

Absu announce new tour dates

In support of the release of their upcoming new album Abzu, Dallas, Texas-based mythological occult metal trio ABSU will embark upon an exclusive four-show upper East Coast US live exhibition this November invading Richmond, Brooklyn, Reading and Boston. These venues and cities have been chosen with the purpose of ABSU performing in previously uncharted barbaric environments, where locals can expect the set list to include a large dose of material from Abzu, in addition to songs spanning the entire ABSU discography. Support for this special trek will hail from Philadelphia black thrash derelicts Infernal Stronghold.

Following the short tour, ABSU will also take part in Montreal's Messe des Morts festival, performing as one of the event's main acts which also includes Inquisition, Glorior Belli, Forteresse and more.

ABSU's forthcoming sixth full-length opus, Abzu, is set for North American release on October 4th. The band's second album for international heavyweight Candlelight Records, Abzu is the second part of a trilogy of recordings from the band. Recorded at Nomad Recording Studios in Carrollton, Texas, Abzu finds drummer/vocalist Proscriptor and bassist/vocalist Ezezu sharing equal vocal duties and debuts the skills of new guitarist Vis Crom. The record was mixed by J.T. Longoria (King Diamond/Solitude Aeternus), and features original cover art from Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (Watain, Behemoth, Destroyer 666, Vader).

Throne of Katarsis album plans

The Norwegian black metal horde known as THRONE OF KATARSIS are preparing to unleash their third full-length assault, the vile, seven-track LP bearing the title Ved Graven.

Ved Graven (fundamentally translated to “at the grave”) is ultimately the darkest material written by the band since their inception in 2004. Cold and raw, and with the bizarre aura of an everlasting funeral, THRONE OF KATARSIS recorded the seven rites of this album over three long nights, recording in total darkness. All instruments and vocals were recorded in a live séance in order to capture the aura the band creates during their convocations. Several guitar leads were added to this sinister mix, as well as an organ, recorded during a late night ceremony at a local church in Norway.

As with both of TOK's previous full-length releases -- 2007's An Eternal Dark Horizon and 2009's Helvete -- Ved Graven will also be released under the banner of Candlelight Records, and is set for public disbursement on November 1st, 2011. After seven years in existence, Ved Graven is the first recording in the band's lineage to see the duo Infamroth (vocal/guitar/organ) and Vardavlv (drums) expanding THRONE OF KATARSIS to a full lineup, now also including Skinndod (guitar) and Sanrabb (bass). The album was produced by Stein Sund (Einherjer), and bears hand-drawn cover art by infamous dark artist Njard.

Silent Screams sign with Ghost Music

GHOST MUSIC, the hotly tipped new record label founded by GHOSTFEST creator Toyan St Hilaire, has announced that it’s first signing will be UK Metalcore’s rising stars, SILENT SCREAMS.

Previously unsigned, the band have racked up some seriously impressive credentials during their short time together, completing extensive tours of Australia, Europe and the UK, supporting the likes of Bring Me The Horizon, Your Demise, For The Fallen Dreams and Emmure along the way.

After honing their skills on the international live circuit, the band then quickly hooked up with world-renowned producer/engineer Joey Sturgis (Devil Wears Prada, Asking Alexandria, Miss May I) to record their blistering debut album ‘When It Rains’, a record which upon first listen, immediately prompted the Ghost Music owner into action…
Toyan explains:
“As soon as I heard the new SILENT SCREAMS record, I just knew it was gold – I just knew I had to do something with it… ‘When It Rains’ made such an impact on me that I’ve decided to finally put my money where my mouth is; hence GHOST MUSIC was born! Adagio guitarist sign with Listenable

Stéphan Forté has just signed a worldwide deal with Listenable Records (Gojira, Soilwork, Adagio) for the release of his first instrumental solo album “The Shadows Compendium”

The album will be distributed in US by E1 distribution, UK by ADA/WARNER and features several guests such as Jeff Loomis, Mattias Eklundh, Glen Drover, Daniele Gottardo and Derek Taylor.

Stéphan: “I am very happy to sign with Listenable for “The Shadows Compendium” The label did a great job for Adagio"’s latest album “Archangels In Black” and I am really pleased to have such a strong Metal label supporting an instrumental album worldwide. I’ve been working on the writing for more than 4 years and I’m glad to finally be ready to share this music with you guys. This albums reflects my very personal vision of guitar, it is of course a Metal album, featuring some insane guitar chops, but still very melodic. Right now, I am practicing the songs in order to be ready to play them perfectly for the showcase tour in October. As far as the guests, I am lucky to have such talented friends, they all did amazing solos, Jeff, Glen, Mattias, Daniele and Derek, guys you kick serious asses, thanks again buddies!!”

Stéphan will embark for a masterclass and showcase tour in Europe in October introducing the album and his new LÂG signature 7 strings guitar.

Taake announce new tour dates

Two generations of Bergen bands are set to tour Europe in October, bringing with them the blackened sounds and performances that makes Norway’s second largest city one of the foremost producers of extreme metal.

Headlining will be TAAKE, formed in 1993 by Hoest, one of the most dynamic front men in Black Metal. With a plethora of releases and a wealth of stage experience behind them TAAKE has become one of the leading Black Metal bands playing today. Supporting will be BYFROST who already have two full length albums to their credit, and whose aggressive black ‘n roll, combined with elements of thrash, have earned them a large fan base following recent appearances at some of the top European festivals. Also on the tour will be the UK’s DONN THE PHILOSOPHY. Tour dates as follows:

Deathstars to support Rammstein

Sweden’s finest DEATHSTARS is supporting RAMMSTEIN on the 2011 leg of their “Made In Germany 1995-2011” Tour and will release a brand new single in October.

DEATHSTARS has a decade of debauchery under their belt. The music – which has been synonymous with darkness, sex, leather and glitter – is based upon the fusion of power, aggression and straight forward rock.

”It’s of course a fantastic thing to go on tour with a brilliant band like RAMMSTEIN. We are eager to hit the stages in Europe to spread the raw dark power of DEATHSTARS. It’s simply a great package.” comments vocalist and frontman Whiplasher Bernadotte.

The success of their second album ”Termination Bliss” and their latest full length release ”Night Electric Night” threw the boys of death to the very stars.

Currently the band is in studio to record the first music of the coming album.

The new single will be released through Nuclear Blast Records late October, and the “Made In Germany 1995-2011” together with RAMMSTEIN starts November 6.

Axemaster announce bassist

Axemaster is proud to announce that accomplished bassist Jim Curtis will be featured on the next Axemaster release. Jim was a member of the Inner Terror project in 2009-2010 and recently expressed interest in performing on the new CD. As Joe Sims put it:

"When I found out that Jim was interested in being on the CD it was a no-brainer. He's an excellent player and is familiar with me and Brian's writing and playing style, a perfect combination! He's gonna add an extra dimension to the rhythm section and make the disc just that much better!"

Jim stated:

"I am honored and excited to be working with Joe, Brian and Tony in this newest version of Axemaster. I have known Brian for many years and met Joe 3 years ago when they asked me to be on the Inner Terror CD. The songwriting is strong and the riffs are brutal...nobody writes em like Joe...along with great drumming and now with Tony's talents I am looking forward to a killer release from the legends that are AXEMASTER!"

One Without sign with Wormholedeath

Swedish Modern Metal band ONE WITHOUT has signed a deal with Italian label Wormholedeath (sublabel of Aural Music Group).

On the 19th of October Wormholedeath will release their second album "Sweet Relief" physically world-wide since it has already been released as a free digital download, letting the fans choose how they want to obtain it.

Guitar player Kenny Boufadene stated:

"We have been discussing this cooperation for some time, and how we would be able to work together since we already released the album for free digitally. Wormholedeath has have been really cool about this and show their support for how we want to approach our fans and actually encourage us to work in this way. This cooperation gives us the opportunity to release "Sweet Relief" on an even bigger scale, while at the same time we keep our integrity and the respect for our fans. When we were contacted by Carlo Bellotti at Wormholedeath, we didn´t realize who he was and what he could do for us, but after our first phonetalk we didn´t have any worries at all, this was a label we wanted to work with and that has ideas and forward-thinking that is exactly in line with how we feel. Wormholedeath understands what we want and how we want to do it, and we couldn´t be happier with this cooperation. We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Wormholedeath"

Chasma sign with Moribund Records

Today, MORIBUND RECORDS announces the signing of CHASMA. A trio from Portland, Oregon, CHASMA are set to release their MORIBUND debut, Declarations of the Grand Artificer, later this year. With three songs clocking in at nearly 33 minutes, CHASMA's Declarations of the Grand Artificer is a bewildering but above all transcendent record, an epic recasting of classic black metal into otherworldly shapes and a plausibly modern contour. A specific release date for the album will be announced shortly.

Formed in 2008 by members of Nanda Devi and Alter of Earth, CHASMA began as a side-project to experiment with yet another form of extreme metal. After writing and recording three songs, CHASMA released a demo tape with the French black metal label Aural Offerings and began performing live. After encouragement from Aural Offerings and the local Northwest metal scene, CHASMA made another recording that was released by Aural Offerings on tape and CD. After playing two years of amazing shows with the likes of Wolves in the Throne Room, Bloody Panda, Trees, Thou, Nux Vomica, and Fell Voices, CHASMA guitarist Tony Komforty departed the project and was replaced by Klaus Maza of the LA crust band Sheeeeeeeep.

"Musically, we are influenced by new millenium-era French black metal and DC screamo," says the band, "and bands like Weakling, Joyless, Ameseours, and Majority Rule. We are influenced by the intensity and passion of our brotherhood as musicians and try to express that passion through dimension bending riffs. We don't really fit the black metal label; we consider ourselves either noir nouveau ['new black'] or bright metal."

"We're so stoked to work with the elite metal cult that is MORIBUND," the bands says, concluding. "We look forward to crusading across globe under their flag."

Ghostfest founder launces record label

On the 26th of August 2011, national promoter and GHOSTFEST UK founder Toyan St Hilaire will launch his brand new record label, GHOST MUSIC.

From its early inception in 2005, Toyan has rapidly grown GHOSTFEST into one of Europe’s largest independent indoor Metal festivals, with 2,500 tickets selling out this year, well in advance.

With a natural skill for spotting and nurturing talent, coupled with an impeccable knowledge of the Metal scene, GHOST MUSIC is set to shake things up in the near future, as Toyan explains:
“Setting up a record label is something I’ve always wanted to do. Currently there is a positive upsurge in other independent companies and labels who are all making a name for themselves, by working on their own terms and for the good of the music. With the old ways of the industry slowly dying, now seems like the perfect time to be making a statement with exciting music. I’m so excited to finally launch this label and I cannot wait to announce our first band!”

GHOST MUSIC’s first signing will be unveiled on September 1st 2011.
