REVIEW: 3 - Wake Pigs Metal Blade Records, 2006
8.5/10
3 - Wake Pigs - cover art 3 is a band that has been around since the mid 90s but it is not until now that they will be given any major intention in the mainstream metal scene as they have been picked up by Metal Blade Records. "Wake Pigs" is not an entirely new recordings since it's basically a re-release of their 2004 album for Planet Revolution Records with a few remixes and a couple of new songs added. In the midst of Metal Blade's strange urge to sign unoriginal bands in an attempt to adhere to current trends I definitely welcome their decision to sign 3 because this album will most likely be one of the musical highlights of 2006 for me. On "Wake Pigs" they mix progressive rock á la Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree with a healthy dose of pop, Tool and emocore. There is joy, melancholy and sadness but above all there is beauty. The four opening songs of this album are simply amazing. 3 open doors to an entire universe of new impressions and their innovative take on modern music is highly impressive. Frontman Joey Eppard and his smooth voice play a very important role in creating a unique atmosphere for these songs. Had the entire album possessed the same quality as the opening four compositions this would most likely be the album of the year but unfortunately it tends to fade mid-way through. Nonetheless, a great album for anyone who has grown tired of the conformity of modern music.

Stand-out tracks: "Alien Angel", "Monster", "Dregs", "Wake Pig", "Bramfatura". Btw, do they know there's an old Sicilian black metal band using the same band name?
