Music fans who have been following the Swedish extreme metal scenes in the 90s know IT (Tony Särkkä) from acts like Abruptum, Ophthalamia, Vondur and War. Due to some unfortunate events he decided to leave music behind but when his long-time friend and old band mate from Brejndedd (a late 80s thrash metal demo band) Michael Bohlin contacted him in early 2000 to add lyrics and vocals to some hard rock songs he had written and recorded as a hobby project in his own studio he found that spark again. IT himself had been working on the lyrical concept around the 8th Sin for some time already and it suited him perfect. Musically 8th Sin has been marketed as a hard rock band which, in the pure meaning the term usually has, is not true. "Sinners Inc." does have older roots but there are obvious overtones of modern metal and similarities to Rammstein and Marilyn Manson are not difficult to spot. Michael Bohlin is no foe to electronic effects. Most fans of IT's previous work will probably find this album very hard to accept while it is more suited to fans of industrial rock / metal. His vocals are somewhat of a mix of Marilyn Manson and Tiamat's Johan Edlund without reaching the same height as any of them. 8th Sin is decent without impressing but the main problem is that they will be competing to win over fans in the gothic / industrial community and there are already plenty of more established and better acts for them to choose from. Interesting lyrics, enjoyable pounding rhythms and a good start but more is needed to reach the top. Stand-out tracks: "Hello Japan", "Sex FX".
