Pretty solid if mostly unambitious USBM from California that runs the table on most other comers by virtue of a remembrance of guitars. The name of the game here is a relative fullness of production and mix, with sundry members placing the rapid guitar strumming up front and clear, leapfrogging each other excitedly. This, in addition to being a welcome aesthetic in its own right, compensates for the way-too-processed nature of both vocals (mixed-back and buzzy) and drums (programmed and tinny). Occasional melodic guitar solos bounce from the fray, indicating a potential to be more epic than epic down the pike. Four tunes, all playing with a variety of tempos albeit a singularity of mood and purpose, which is what relegates this to the slightly better-than-average. Following this release, band members opted for a genre-friendly pseudonym upgrade, from Brian, Vince and Jeff to Bies and Nagual. So, umm, which guy did we lose?
