Over time, a band tends to slowly change their sound, and A Perfect Murder is definitely no exception. Originally starting off as a metalcore act, over the course of their career, the band has become more thrash/groove oriented with their material.
Lyrically the band has pretty much remained the same, however they have given up continuous breakdowns for the addition of some solos, and there are some good ones on this release. "War Of Aggression" continues to follow the sound they produced on their last release, "Strength Through Vengeance". The only downfall is that it isn't quite as good, and that there are some tracks, such as the obviously Pearl Jam influenced (or cover/rip-off?) track "Fortunate Son", that just should not have been recorded.
It seems that the band is trying to keep the metalcore feel to their music while continuing with a thrashier sound. This, however, isn't all that impressive. The vocals are good and menacing, but many of the songs are just somewhat slower than they should be, or rather bland compared to some of their other material. However, there are some tracks that stand out in a very positive light, such as "Rapture" and "Sadist".
"War Of Aggression" isn't really anything spectacular, however it's good for what it is. Some of the songs could use a little more work or be sped up a little, but the guitar solos are amazing. But, some of the breakdowns do feel kind of weak. All in all, it's a decent release, but nothing worth breaking the bank over.
