A Tribute To The Plague probably took their name from a line in the Candlemass classic "Well Of Souls" as Candlemass along with Solitude Aeternus have been major sources of inspiration for the band. The band hails from Curitiba in the south of Brazil and has been playing together since 1998. "Alone" is their first album and features five new songs, six new versions from their 2001 demo "No God To Call" and a very interesting cover of Twisted Sister's "You Can't Stop Rock n' Roll". It was clear right from the very beginning of this album that this was not a low budget production. The sound quality is very high and these guys have really put their minds to making their first album as professional as possible. A Tribute To The Plague have mixed traditional hard rock and heavy metal influences with the heaviest elements from Solitude Aeternus to create a very powerful and memorable sound. They are apparently good musicians, they have a strong vocalist and a very professional approach. If I had a label of my own I would sign this band right away. The thing they need to work on is the song writing since several songs on the album sound far too similar to each other. The title track is a nice instrumental piano song that shows the versatility of this band. Particularly recommended to fans of Solitude Aeternus. Stand-out tracks: "Fear".
