REVIEW: Abigor - Satanized (A Journey Through Cosmic Infinity) Napalm Records, 2001
8/10
Abigor - Satanized (A Journey Through Cosmic Infinity) - cover art Abigor is a black metal band of the old school with speed and intensity as the most important trademarks. The Austrian band was originally formed in 1993 and has since then been very productive, all the way signed with the native label Napalm Records. At that time Rune was a member of the band, whom we now know as Tharen in Dargaard. Abigor plays very brutal and raw black metal but they also incorporate a lot of melody and a nice variety of vocals. At times the music is very intense like Marduk or Dark Funeral but Abigor has a more dynamic and technical style of playing. One thing for sure is that this is a very interesting album from a band that have developed a very strange sound of their own without leaving the traditional black metal values behind. Maybe you could complain about the over-distorted guitars and the obsession with Satan and darkness but isn´t that what black metal was originally all about? I have to admit that I like bands such as Cradle and Dimmu better than Abigor but it´s not exactly the same style. When speaking old vein black metal Abigor is among the best and they´re definitely the best in Austria. A very good release with just over 40 minutes of high-quality atmospheric melodic black metal and grim vocals.
