REVIEW: Aborted - The Purity Of Perversion Uxicon Records, 1999
7.5/10
Aborted - The Purity Of Perversion - cover art Aborted, as of this writing (January of ’09), have evolved into something of a deathcore band, for better or worse, even if the ties are loose. Having just reviewed this album for Tartarean Desire myself, it was especially interesting to go through my seemingly-infinite back-catalogue for a re-listen of this little jewel. Aborted’s first album, The Purity of Perversion, is a damn fine 30+ minutes of gore, and a great first album for any band. The roots of Aborted are apparent and in full force, from Sven’s carnivorous shouts to the unintelligible lows, and of course the samples from horror movies we gore fans love so much. “That’s my mother you're pissing on!” from Peter Jackson’s cult horror classic Dead Alive made me especially giddy. Nobody from this recording is still in Aborted, save for Sven, who still perseveres on vocals, but the older material is very much built on this foundation, save for the recent sprinklings of core flavor, which we all hope dissipates. Pick up The Purity of Perversion for some late-90’s death metal goodness.
