REVIEW: Abscess - Damned And Mummified Red Stream, 2004
7.5/10
Abscess - Damned And Mummified - cover art I like the concept behind Abscess, who are grave dwelling gore obsessed till death metal heads. Does the band deliver musically, yeah they do. Abscess rocks the death metal at a sludgy doom pace for a good portion of the album. The speed thrashes at best, but the band doesn’t seem happy to deliver pummelling music in quick doses. They rather you suffer, while you slowly rot to their death styled metal. They’re sick and twisted, grooving out some old school metal which fans of Autopsy need to hear. Not only because ¾ of Abscess were at one time Autopsy, but because Abscess has been exhumed for you!! I can’t help but notice the Iron Monkey stench (influence/sound) that is present in Abscess. They rock like the stoner metal that was Iron Monkey. Maybe it’s the atmosphere that they create musically, but it’s unmistakable. I haven’t heard any of Abscess’ other releases, but this is defiantly a good album to start with. Unless of course you’re scared!! A better excuse though would be that you don’t enjoy the slowed down death metal rock.
