REVIEW: Absorbed - Visions In Bloodred Resuscitate Records, 2002
7.5/10
Absorbed - Visions In Bloodred - cover art Yet another installment of old-school death metal revival/worship, this time from Dutch 5-piece Absorbed. The point where things are too heavy to be thrash anymore is where we find bands like this, pumping out down-picking and skank beats galore. "Twisted Backwards" contains some of the best guitar work on the album, courtesy of Ferdy and Jeroen. Oddly enough, my favorite track was the instrumental "Back to Infinity". This is likely due to the fact that it's just different from the others, and that's not to say that the other songs aren't good, but it's simply a nice breathing spot for Absorbed where the music is left to convey all of the emotions on its own. Lyrically, Absorbed are generally gore, though they have more maturity in their horror text than alot of others do. Albums like this are definitely not a novelty in the ever-evolving realm of extreme metal, but have certain nostalgic value to them.
