Abyzz is an old German band that has existed since 1993 but they have never left the demo stage. I must say that I admire them for keeping the spirit alive for so long while struggling in the shadows. Are they worthy of a record contract you may wonder? Well, both yes and no. There are many worse bands who are signed to various labels worldwide but then again there is very little on this disc that would make me become interested if I were the head of my label's A&R department. The introductory guitar work on "Warmachinery" is excellent but after a while they fall into slightly boring repetitive patterns which they never seem to be able to get rid of. They too often lose focus and momentum which is necessary to prevent the listener from skipping one track after another. Their mixture of old-school death and thrash metal rarely shines but the previously mentioned section of "Warmachinery" is wonderful to hear. There are a couple of other more riff based songs that also create some hope for the band. The instrumental ballad "Inanna's Sleep" stands out clearly from the rest of the tracks and is actually one of my favorites from this cd. The vocalist is however the weakest link in the chain and his raw voice only sounds annoying to my ears most of the time. A decent demo but I still doubt that it will be the one which takes Abyzz off the demo stage and into the light.
