REVIEW: Ad Noctum - Insanity For Lifestyle Self-financed, 2003
6/10
Ad Noctum - Insanity For Lifestyle - cover art In this flood of Black Metal (I keep away from Goth, although that’s even greater flood) it’s nice to hear an album that will remind you of early ‘90es Death Metal, European version, even if that album isn't somethig special. What Ad Noctum delivers is just that, death Metal with that old feeling. Lots of riffing, mid tempo drums going to speed occasionally. The voice is a bit hard death singing, not the usual growl, rather with some hardcore influences. The music is not something complicated, and judging only by it, since no more information is provided in the booklet, I could tell this is their debut album. A lot of improvement could be done in composing and song structuring. Sometimes all sounds ok, furious and then they sink in some mud without obvious rhythm or melody, which is annoying and ruins the feeling you built previously. No instrument is standing out from the general impression and that is not so good. The production is half way good, neither powerful nor dirty enough. Somewhere half way from both and that just leaves a feeling like something is missing.
