REVIEW: Adagio - Sanctus Ignis Limb Music Products, 2001
8.5/10
Adagio - Sanctus Ignis - cover art Featuring members of both Elegy and Majestic this is one of few so called "super groups" who have been able to live up to the expectations which are very often set very high. Adagio have created a very nice progressive metal album in the vein of early Symphony X and almost as good. The music is heavy but not without loosing any of the melodic and technical show-offs that are connected to the style called progressive metal which I really love if it is done well. Adagio also has been given the bonus of having a very talented singer which isn't very easy to find. Moreover this band knows how to make music interesting and even though this album is an hour long it never gets boring. Neoclassical guitar melodies, beautiful and passionate vocal lines, some barocque interludes and some of the world's finest power / progressive metal musicians help to make this album one of the most interesting to come in this field for a long time. Together with Evergrey, Dream Theater and Symphony X this band is definitely one of the best in the world on the progressive metal scene. If you are into this kind of music you should not be disappointed with this album.
