REVIEW: Adrift - Promo Self-financed, 2004
7/10
Adrift - Promo - cover art Adrift is a band that you are most likely to have heard of already even though they have not even released an album yet. The reason is that this band features former Cannibal Corpse guitarist Jack Owen who have now decided that Adrift is the right place to be at the moment. The rest of the line-up consists of Argentinian beauty Analia Pearl on guitars, Michael Capuano on bass, Kevin Astl (ex-Resurrection) on drums and Mark Elm (Path Of Man) on vocals. Even though two of the band members have a past in death metal bands this is something completely different. While still being heavy and intense, the music of Adrift is in the modern rock / nu-metal vein with emotional melodies and vocal lines. It is easy to tell that this is a serious band who are looking forward to a good recording contract. The song structures are well thought out, every little detail has been looked after and the vocals from Mark Elm show a good deal of both power, diversity and passion. Unfortunately for the band they have set out to conquer a genre in which bands have already been fine tuning their musical ideas for close to a decade. Adrift is certainly good enough to receive a record contract and gain a loyal following of genre fans but they have a long hard road ahead of them if they want to be No 1.
