The American band Aesma
Daeva have finally returned with their new opus carrying the somewhat
pretentious title "The Eros Of Frigid Beauty". In my opinion this is a band
who have every right of being pretentious. This album is slightly different
from the previous release. The song structures are more complex and the music
is generally heavier than last time with hardly any of the many ballads that
could be found on "Here Lies One Whose Name Was Written In Water". The music
is still as epic, majestic and beautiful though with classically influences
arrangements and wonderful operatic female vocals. Aesma Daeva is to some
degree reminiscent of Autumn Tears although their sound is more theatrical and
ethereal which makes the atmosphere more dramatic but less ominous and dark.
"The Eros Of Frigid Beauty" is not quite as magnificent as the debut album
from the band but it is still a wonderful collection of epic soundscapes that
should appeal to anyone with an open mind and a taste for the more
experimental and innovative side of music. Aesma Daeva have come to stay and
they once again show that it is still possible to create something new if you
really put your mind to it. Stand-out tracks: "In My Holy Time",
"Overature", "The Minstrel
Song".
