REVIEW: After Feed-back - Promotional Nu Metal Recordz, 2003
8/10
After Feed-back - Promotional - cover art After Feed-back is a rock band in the nu-metal genre from Spain. They are presently working on the recording of their second album and, from as much as I've heard, it shows a lot of promise. The material I got from them is a promotional CD with two audio tracks (I suppose they are songs planned to be included on the album) and a video with them in concert. They simply entitled the CD "Promotional".

Let me tell you that I've been impressed with the band even before I even got to actually listen to the songs - yeah, I know Vince, I have been very sceptic at first - but the fact is that, for a promotional CD, it is very well done as it gives you more insight on the band than you'd think. It even includes pictures, and has a nicely done cover and packaging (a lot of detail for a promo - comes to show that you are dealing with a band who's serious in their work).

The two tracks on the CD are "A Bullet For A Dollar" - a song with very unusual technical work behind it (sounds a bit muffy, but fits right in), good production and most of all nice sound. The vocals are probably the best thing about this band - I wouldn't want to undermine the capabilities of the other musicians, I was just really impressed with this part of it - powerful, original and fat.

"XXX", the second track included is a bit weaker with not very much action during the verse, except for the vocals, but kicks really nice at the chorus. The loops however tend to get really boring, and the minimal instrumantation in the background doesn't seem to spice.

The video-track is a recording of the band in concert and some other stuff, but it is only a fraction of another track (that I've found on another CD they have sent me - probably the latest stuff, and they just didn't have time to get it onto the promo) that has a much more interesting overlook on the band's activity, life on the road, studio, members, etc. This second CD also includes a track called "Afterfeedback" which, in my opinion, is much more powerful than the others. It has more adrenalin, and much cleaner orchestration also. It is probably still a rough-mix, but sounds good nevertheless... (I can't tell for sure if it really is a rough, but the way it starts off with the vocals just gave me that impression).

Although not a nu-metal fan, I must say that I was really impressed with After Feed-back as it has a lot of power in its sound. Anyway... looking forward to hearing the finished album. I'm not giving my final judgement right now - sounds good, but I need to see more to be able to have a clear picture on the bands capabilities.
