REVIEW: Agalloch - Of Stone, Wind And Pillor (EP) The End Records, 2001
7.5/10
Agalloch - Of Stone, Wind And Pillor (EP) - cover art Agalloch's debut album "Pale Folklore" is supposed to be a masterpiece of black/folk metal, but as I've never heard that one, I have only this new MCD to compare their musical abilities to. It is a little hard though, as I've not been handed an infosheet neither, but somehow from the cover it is clear that this is leftover material and older recordings from the band, spanning from the period of 1997 until today, so they show a little of everything. Some quite usual non-pro sounding black metal with folk influences, to all acoustic and instrumental guitar tracks, that are really the most entertaining stuff on this disc, as they show a great glimpse of talent in just that. Sounding to usual on the black metal parts makes me just think that they maybe should incorporate either equally or go just the one road for the best result. Still, this 5 track MCD is a very nice piece of music, and I must especially pull out the awsome Sol Invictus coversong "Kneel to the Cross" as the big highlight on this one. Great and promising stuff at the same time!
