REVIEW: Agathodaimon - Chapter III Nuclear Blast, 2001
8.5/10
Agathodaimon - Chapter III - cover art Agathodaimon has become one of the leading German black metal bands since their debut "Blacken The Angel" back in 1998 and now they are ready to unleash their third and most impressive effort so far. Nuclear Blast have so far signed very few black metal bands but when they find one like Agathodaimon you can be sure that they are good and this is once again proven through the third chapter of the band's history. This is a very intense album but while being brutal enough for black metal fans it also contains lots of signs of a band set in steady development - small yet beautiful melodic hooks, furious guitar solos, heavy churning riffs and a lot of other tasty stuff. With the tough competition on the metal scene today it is extremely important not to rely completely on what has worked before but also try to be innovative and create new interesting music which is something Agathodaimon has been very good at. The best way to describe the Agathodaimon sound would perhaps be a more sophisticated version of Dissection. The production is very good and one of the best that any black metal album has ever had. Agathodaimon might not be at the top of the mountain yet in my book but they are on their way there for sure.
