REVIEW: Agnostic Front - Warriors Nuclear Blast, 2007
7.5/10
Agnostic Front - Warriors - cover art Not only are Agnostic Front true NYHC warriors (as opposed to false ones?), Warriors is the name of their latest album. That Nuclear Blast picked these guys up a few years ago (whither Victory Records?) was perhaps a surprise to many, but it's a marriage that has worked reasonably well thus far. The label definitely knew what they were getting with this signing. Why? Because on Warriors, surprisingly only the band's 9th official studio release, there is still nothing new. Hey, it wasn't broken so nothing's had to be fixed since 1983, right? Right.

Okay, so maybe Roger Miret's voice is an acquired taste (it is), but its presence and force cannot be denied. Vinnie Stigma's guitar work is nothing but basic, and that's okay 'cause it's solid. The group does what some kids only think Hatebreed invented: they crush in simplistic Hardcore fashion. Plenty of gang choruses and breakdowns appear as well as the lyrical themes almost overly common to this style, particularly the paeans to New York City and notions of loyalty and pride. Otherwise, if Pro-Pain is not Hardcore enough, Hatebreed too much of a sellout, or Biohazard too popular, Agnostic Front may be right for you.

Warriors was produced by the Agnostic Frontman's (hehe) younger half-brother, Freddy Cricien, frontman of Madball, and recorded by Zeuss (Hatebreed, Shadows Fall, among others). As such, clarity is at a premium and serves to augment the sensation of aural punishment. There are no real standouts as the album is of uniformly high quality for what it is. "By My Side" has to have some guest appearances on it, though one would be hard pressed to determine who did what, not that it's of any consequence, really. If you're already a fan of the band, this is definitely up your alley. If not, this is as good a place as any to learn more about AF.
