Agony is a Czech band that has a rather suitable band name in relation to the music they have set about to perform. Agony might not be exactly the feeling they have captured on this disc but it's not very far fetched. Their brand of death metal does have a brutal edge much thanks to the vocals but it is above all very melodic, catchy and melancholic which makes you think more in the direction of Scandinavia instead of Eastern Europe. Amorphis is a band that comes to mind although Agony are not quite as melodic nor powerful as they were in their early days. An interesting thing to mention might be that the growling vocals are interrupted a couple of days by a soft, tender female voice. She is not exactly the classically trained soprano but it works fairly well still just in order to create a different set of emotions to the songs. The production is slightly hollow but good enough for the listening experience not to be painful. Few elements in the Agony concept stand above average level but there are some enjoyable riffing here and there that might please fans of groovy and emotional death metal with a rough edge. They should at least be given credit for entitling the opening song "From Dusk Till Dawn". Classic!
