REVIEW: Ahoora - All in Blood With You unsigned, 2007
9/10
Ahoora - All in Blood With You - cover art To be a rock or metal band in Iran isn't easy, because rock music is banned at this State and so is the band Ahoora now. So probably not many people have yet heard of Ahoora, which is a real pity. The band's first gig in 2005 was also the first metal show with lyrics in Iran ever!

On their myspace page it says the band plays progressive thrash metal, but they also name influences like Iced Earth and Iron Maiden.

The first riff of the album sounds pretty much like typical old-school thrash, but listeners who want to reduce Ahoora on this will be very surprised in the course of the album. All in Blood With You is an album which shows many facets and so never gets boring, but is also of a piece.

The first song "Heart of Darkness" reminds in some parts of Nevermore, particularly the vocals. But Ashkan Hadavandkhani, the lead vocalist isn't limited to this vocal style. "Out of Mind Walls" has got something of Type O Negative with the deep voice and the slow, heavy guitars. And during some songs it becomes obvious that the band is also influenced by classical Heavy Metal bands like Iced Earth. But Ahoora never copies something. They've got their very own style which can hardly be pegged as something.

The band seems to like double guitar harmonies as well as progressive rhythms. Some clean parts have got an oriental touch and the bass player sometimes uses a fretless bass. Besides that Ahoora doesn't shrink away from using synthesizers. "Out of Mind Walls" begins with a raging fast piano intro, which is clouded then from ominous sounding keyboards.

All in Blood With You is really worth checking out and the accuracy of the songs shows that the five musicians are skilled instrumentalists. Hopefully the band will make it to greater popularity!
