Well, this review is not made any easier by the fact that there
is no English to be found in the packaging. Not one goddamned word. Seeing as
Ajattara is from Finland, or so I'd gather by the language on their CD, this
is understandable in many ways, but considering the English dominance of the
media world, be it mainstream or underground, a bio in English would have
helped. But, I digress. Ajattara play slower, doomy black metal similar to a
drugged and depressed Naglfar. There is some crunch to be heard, but not alot
in the way of tempo changes or overall variety. "Ikiyossa" had some back-up
vocals which actually brought Pink Floyd to mind; whether or not this is a
good or bad thing depends on your opinion of Pink Floyd, I suppose. Through
above-par production, Ajattara are able to offer a very clear-sounding and
eclectic album which is different if nothing else. [Editor's comment:
Ajattara is indeed a Finnish band and was formed in 1996 by one of the
Amorphis guitarists.]
