What's in a name? Hard to say these days. All Shall Perish is an Oakland based band who shred somewhere between Death Metal and Grind with truly abusive Hardcore breakdowns and shouted vocals added to season the stew. Hell, there's even cowbell on this thing! (See "Wage Slaves" to invoke the voice of Christopher Walken on SNL.) That this is only the band's second release is perhaps amazing. A singular point of comparison might be Dying Fetus on Destroy the Opposition. Such is The Price of Existence in terms of crushing and punishing the listener while still being listenable and even catchy. The album's production is massive and offers a certain clarity that does not diminish the power of the individual riffs and song structures. Some have labeled the band Metalcore -- the press release even includes the "M-word" -- and while there are some Metalcore-sounding elements (e.g. stuttering riffs, the occasional excessive drum fills, and noodling clean guitar work) this reference is essentially misleading, though album closer suggests otherwise. Thankfully there is no isolated clean singing or other such malfeasance. All Shall Perish are a band undoubtedly on the rise. Plenty of room remains on the bandwagon so find a seat. Stick these guys on a tour with the Bay Area badasses in Animosity and you'd be set. Hell, fellow Oakland band Watch Them Die could headline the bill and the abuse would be taken to a new level. Put all the aforementioned on a Sadus bill and the abuse would become ritualistic while still remaining a bunch of local boys. Look and listen for more good stuff from All Shall Perish in the future.
