REVIEW: Allfader - At Least We Will Die Together Osmose Productions, 2006
7.5/10
Allfader - At Least We Will Die Together - cover art As the name might already suggest to those of you linguistically skilled, Allfader hail from Norway and it probably doesn't strike you with surprise either when I mention that they have devoted their musical abilities to the art of black metal. Not having heard the band's music prior to this album I must admit that I was not exactly getting my hopes up high when I was about to sit down for a quick listen. However, I was grabbed by the intensity and quite characteristic sound of these Norwegians who have been at it since 2001. Instead of dwelling in the past only to become pale modern clones of the various black metal pioneers of their country they have found a distinct path of their own, not limiting theirselves to the black metal genre but also adding elements from the entire extreme metal spectrum, making "At Least We Will Die Together" a very pleasant gift well suited for the dark months of the year. Groovy at times only to pierce your ears a few minutes later with relentless blast beats they do not fear to experiment either with choir vocals nor strange guitar sounds and crazy solos. On the downside the songs tend to get slightly monotonous once in a while. Nonetheless, well done lads.
