Despite what the band may tell
you, their older material is still absolutely overwhelming and impressive.
Allfather play a high-speed and vicious brand of blackened thrash/war metal
similar to Australian bands like (older) D666 and Abominator mixed with ample
doses of Goatwhore-like mayhem, and manage to make things flow along a bit
more smoothly than most in the war metal genre. The songs are short for the
most part, with an endless stream of flesh-peeling riffing progressing amidst
some great drum work by original vocalist Paul Jacobsen. There are fleeting
moments of melodies on this CD; and don't get the wrong idea when I use that
word. The riffs are melodic only in the fact that they aren't a downtuned
open E death metal chug: they are musical and well-written, jumping out at you
suddenly in the odd rhythm break before evolving into a battle charge the
moment you thought you had them figured out. Now at the helm of the Allfather
campaign is Chad Klassen, who gives a great performance on this CD with some
hateful high end vocal conviction. Allfather lyrics are also worthy of
mention, having been inspired by the Pete Helmkamp school of Heretic Supremacy
and tomes of truth such as "Might is Right" and "Creed of Iron." Now on
the hunt for a bass player and ready to unleash their even more abrupt newer
works through the Emerald Isle's Invictus Productions, Allfather is a band I
recommend to anyone into the fastest and darkest of the black metal world, as
well as war metal and deathrash bands like Aurora
Borealis.
