Alternine is a female fronted French quartet that delivers an enthusiastic, virile and professional sort of metallic emotional rock not unlike The Gathering's tunes. If the latter leans more towards the epic and melodic, Alternine's music leans more towards the brute; it is innately harsher and more dynamic, played by varied guitar tones and distortions, and the vocalist's strong, stable and essentially beautiful voice stands in stark comparison to the more heavy parts delivered by this capable band. This EP is highly recommended for those who love dominant and charismatic female vocalists and a good blend of melodic metal done right with fine musicianship. Keep your eyes open and your ears sharp for Alternine's debut full length. I know I would.
