REVIEW: Amon Amarth - The Crusher Metal Blade Records, 2001
8.5/10
Amon Amarth - The Crusher - cover art Sweden is definitely one of the strongest countries in the world right now when it comes to death metal and Amon Amarth is among the top bands in this genre. Crushing guitars, aggressive growling, a heavy sound and nice subtle melodies makes this album a very nice death metal release. Perhaps it´s not the best album this year but if you are into death metal you will hopefully not be disappointed by these ten tracks. With a production from Lars Szöke and Peter Tägtgren they also sound pretty much like Hypocrisy. That means that they are not playing the usual kind of Swedish melodic death metal but a little slower and heavier. Important to mention is that the melodies are still there but sometimes they are buried deep in the music so that you may not notice them until you have listened to the album a couple of times. Showing the true face of powerful death metal Amon Amarth is in the game to stay and it will be interesting to see what they can accomplish in the future. Metal Blade has really got one of the strongest death metal roasters in the world at the moment and Nuclear Blast will have to watch out in the future, that´s for sure.
