REVIEW: Amon Amarth - Versus The World Metal Blade Records, 2002
9/10
Amon Amarth - Versus The World - cover art The first thing I said to myself when buying this album was: “Why name the album Versus the World?”. Was this album aimed in a political direction with anger pointing towards a war-ridden landscape with countries attacking each other? Was this album fueled by environmental anger with the depletion of our raw resources coming closer and closer to reality? Was it possibly fictional with the Swedes portraying their ancient ancestors battling for supremacy? That was enough curiosity out of me for one moment; I had to buy the album. That is also what the store attendant told me after giving me a strange look as I contemplated the terminology of the album for over ten minutes. Rest easy rent-a-cop I am no shoplifter! If I was as perplexed by the cover of the album what would happen to me as I explored the inner workings?
