REVIEW: Ancient Rites - Dim Carcosa Hammerheart Records, 2001
7/10
Ancient Rites - Dim Carcosa - cover art Ancient Rites has quite a few releases under their belt and a very solid presence in the underground black metal scene (especially tours, etc.) I was expecting to hear a pure black metal band if truth is told, but things are not like that at all. It is true that some vocal lines (not all though) are being delivered with venom and are quite harsh sounding, but apart from that I guess that this band has decided to move on in a different direction. Thankfully the end result proves them right. They have managed to come up with an interesting and well played record that has a good recording quality -the only turn off and it is quite a big one, being the drum machine that they use- and comes with an interesting 20 page booklet. Ancient Rites has come up with a mix of (mostly) power metal (not the la la la la, idiotic power metal, the one that has balls in it)-epic -black that should satisfy most of the real headbangers.
