REVIEW: Anger - The Bliss Armageddon Music, 2005
7/10
Anger - The Bliss - cover art Yesterday I had the pleasure to enjoy Moonspell live for the very first time which was quite an intense experience. Other than the gothic black / death metallers, Portugal have had few noteworthy metal bands throughout the years. Perhaps Anger and their colleagues will bring about a change. This is a band whose musical influences lie far away from those of Moonspell. When they began in 1994 I have no idea what they were doing but today they are comfortably settled in the nu-metal genre, blending melodic heavy rock rhythms with a touch of modern metal and clean, passionate vocals. Nothing new, nothing old, we've heard it all before, right? Well, true in one sense but Anger do have a strong personal identity. Just listen to the "send shivers down your spine" melancholy of "Iced" or the pure aggression that follows in the next song "Devil In My Mind". They build bridges between emotions, they connect the distant dots by drawing the necessary lines, painting inbetween with music and the colors in their palette are many. This album was released in Portugal in 2003 but now Armageddon Music is set to spread the knowledge of Anger to a wider audience. If you hate all things nu-metal you will probably despise this release as well but if you're open to new influences then give them a chance and let the rage flow in your veins.
