REVIEW: Angmar - Planet Satan (EP) Self-financed, 2002
6/10
Angmar - Planet Satan (EP) - cover art Angmar is a band from Kajaani, Finland, that released a demo called "Valonsurma" back in late 1997. Now, four and a half years later, they have finally recorded some new material for the sick people of this world to enjoy. The sound quality was the first thing that came to my attention, or more accurately the lack of sound quality. The band recorded and mixed this album entirely on their own and this, in combination with the fact that they actually wanted a raw and primal sound, results in a production that could have been a little better to please my ears more. It is not too bad though and the music of Angmar is actually a fairly enjoyable brand of raw black metal. The music isn't exactly groundbreaking or original but Angmar is still a pretty good band with lots of energy and varied riffs, making this a release worth checking out for fans of extreme metal who don't mind that the production is far from being perfect. This is not necessarily to their disadvantage though, remember what Darkthrone used to sound like? Not the best release I've heard so far this year but it is far from being bad.
