REVIEW: Anmod - Monstrosity Per Defectum Deity Down Records, 2008
7/10
Anmod - Monstrosity Per Defectum - cover art Formed in 2005 from the ashes of Death metal band Fornication and having kept the same line-up, South Brazil's Anmod play a sort of Death metal/Grindcore. Their debut album, Monstrosity Per Defectum, was released through Deity Down Records early this year. Bands out there have been riding the crest of a wave onto the extreme scene over the past few years (Krisiun, Torture Squad, The Ordher, just to name a few). Get ready to listen to some massive, brutal Death metal that will smash your neck hard. They literally knock you silly with their meaty riffs, killer blasting drumming, groovy bass lines, without even a smidgeon of weakness.

An album that sounds just fresh and efficient - although not the most original nor the most common on earth - these twelve tracks are delivered with raw effort, except the fact that the second track (title as band's name) appears to be a short 42 second transition between the opening song, "Serpent-Legged," and three chaotic minutes of "Hung Up At The Pale." As far as negative points are concerned, I would point the finger at the structural homogeneity of compositions. Most of them sound fairly common but it doesn't mean that lack of interest or identity. You will notice that Hernan Oliveira (bassist and singer) have similar guttural screams to Corpsegrinder... well at least to my ears. It's worth checking out for a debut effort!!
