REVIEW: Annihilator - Carnival Diablos Metal-Is Records, 2001
9/10
Annihilator - Carnival Diablos - cover art Annihilator is one of the few big thrash metal bands from the 80's who are still alive today. If you have an interest for bands like Testament, Anthrax and Exodus you probably already know of this Canadian band. With the new vocalist Joe Comeau (Overkill, Liege Lord) the band is back again and their new album is one of the best classic thrash metal albums I've heard in a long time. The difference between the Trans-Atlantic bands and the European thrash metal bands like Kreator, Destruction and Sodom is that Annihilator and their likes are a lot cleaner. There are no real black or death metal resemblances to be found here. On "Carnival Diablos" you will instead find influences from hard rock and classic metal which makes it score very high in my book. The genuine metal feeling is very rare to find on new releases these days but Annihilator always live up to the expectations. If you enjoy classic speed, heavy or thrash metal from the 80's you should not miss out on this album. When most bands try to be innovative and create something unique Annihilator clings on to the past but they do it extremely well and there is still a modern feeling about this album.
