Canadian guitar virtuoso Jeff Waters is undoubtedly one of the highest skilled musicians in extreme metal (whether you wish to include Annihilator here is up to you of course but they were indeed extreme compared to most other bands when they broke out of silence). He may have pushed people to their limits and made one or two questionable choices in his career but he does what he feels is necessary to maintain Annihilator's status as one of the most important contemporary metal bands. As those who have been around the block know there is a lot of history behind the name and this extensive double DVD set tells the story from the beginning throughout the first ten years of the band's career which were very rich of events. Vintage TV interviews made by more or less ignorant wanna-be journalists, official music videos, plenty of photos, live performance recordings and an exclusive interview with the boss himself is some of the most prominent material featured. Close to four hours of thrash metal history is not too shabby.
Jeff Waters may be the boss but many other musicians have joined him on his successful journey through time. While working on this DVD he has not forgotten about his partners. John Bates, Coburn Pharr, Russell Bergquist and Mike Mangini all talk about their experiences with Annihilator. A sentimental release made for bitter old-school headbangers and focusing singularly on the past? So may it be but without the past there would be no present nor future. Not quite as impressive as Sodom's pretentious multi-disc documentary but a definite must-have for every true thrash metal fan. Now go dig up your "Alice In Hell" albums and torment your neighbours.
