REVIEW: AnoxiA - Far From This Time Self-financed, 2001
6.5/10
AnoxiA - Far From This Time - cover art AnoxiA is a Danish band built around the vocalist Lars Fredriksen, who also plays guitars and bass on this album. Their style is hard to describe with just one word since they have mixed influences from different types of music. The music itself sounds like a mix between doom, death and black metal but the vocals are without exceptions 'clean', sounding like a mix between rock, hardcore and nu-metal. You still probably can't imagine what AnoxiA sounds like in reality but this is the best I can do... The final track actually sounds very punk-ish at times and perhaps some of the people in the band have a background from punk bands. The album contains mostly mid-paced metal but there are also slower and faster passages. Although Lars has a rather nice voice if used the right way it isn't really suited for slow, emotional music which is used here and there. The five songs on this album are a little chaotic and I think AnoxiA would benefit from becoming tighter and decide in which direction to go. More beautiful melodies such as the one on the opening track would not make it any worse either. The sound quality is very good though and it was recorded at Muzirkus in Nyborg, Denmark, at Christmas 2000 with Jacob Hansen from the band Invocator as producer.
