REVIEW: Anoxia - Melanchollision Melodictator Records, 2003
5.5/10
Anoxia - Melanchollision - cover art I apparently reviewed a demo from this Danish band a couple of years ago but to be honest I can not remember that much of it. Now it is time for their first full-lenght album out on a label called Melodictator Records and probably the first release on that label. I was expecting more of a death metal album but "Melanchollision" is mostly made up of mid-paced laid-back riffing and semi-clean to clean vocals that remind me a little of Amorphis although not as strong. In fact I think that this band will appeal more to fans of mellow hardcore of metalcore more than death metal fans even though the song structures and riffs apparently have their roots in the more extreme school of metal song writing. It is a decent album but it never takes off and all songs tend to fall into the same pattern with very little separating them from each other. That can be a could thing in the sense of composing a coherent album but in that case the music must bring more excitement. Maybe these guys should focus on becoming more brutal and faster in the future because this is obviously not what they do best.
