REVIEW: Antaeus - De Principii Evangelikum Osmose Productions, 2002
7.5/10
Antaeus - De Principii Evangelikum - cover art Antaeus is perhaps the finest French black metal band together with Seth. After having dwelt in obscurity since their formation in 1994 they released their debut album "Cut Your Flesh And Worship Satan" through Baphomet Records in 2000. I guess that album title is not highly appreciated by parents all over the world but they are now back with their follow-up album which is more subtly titled "De Principii Evangelikum". You will probably be able to figure out for yourselves what "evangelikum" we are talking about. Antaeus have yet again composed a violent work of art that has all the ferociousness you could possible want. This album is only 28 minutes long but you will hopefully forget about the length when you grasp the whole essence of the album. This is no album for those faint at heart since Antaeus are not here to give us beautiful melodies or slow ballads. They deliver professionally executed and masterfully produced militant black metal in the purest and most delicate form. There is no room for rest and no mercy given on this record which is no doubt the best release from the band so far. French extreme metal is yet again on the rise and Osmose Production is to thank for at least part of this development. Well done, o' mighty ones! Stand-out tracks: "De Principii Evangelikum", "Xristik Throne".
